Best 150 hp bass boat motors where the Mercury XR6, and the Johnson Fast Strike/ Evinrude Intruder. For the 250 hp The Yamaha OX66 or Merc EFI 250 2 stroke.
Can you do a video about repowering older bass boats and the weight concerns of new motors vs the old 2 strokes considering how older transoms/hulls were built. Thank you!
Got a 1972 Checkmate V-Mate II that we repowered with a 1987 Johnson GT200. Paid $1800 in good running condition. Came with a 23p prop and runs an easy 60MPH+ GPS with 4 adults and a big dog along for the ride. Exhaust is drilled, and sounds like an F1 car haha.
The one thing I would say about the fish and ski. As a skier/wakeboarder myself, I’d prefer the 2 stroke torque to get me up asap. If it’s not a SHO there’s also a significant weight penalty which makes a difference. Great video 👍
I got a 98 Mercury EFI on my 97 Triton TR-21 and that thing is still kicking. Had the compression checked the other day and it had 118-120! Yea not the fastest motor on the water but a bulletproof motor in my opinion. Id hate to know how many hours are on that thing lol
Hahaha that’s so funny JTM just built my outboard!! And he sent it to hydro tech marine! Took my Yamaha 150 proV to a 220! Love the motor he does grate work!!!! It was the second motor I got from him!! The first motor was a 70HP Johnson on a 17ft ruff neck! Took the 40HP 4 stroke johnzuki off the boat and I loved the motor

2500 hrs would be where I would start worrying on a Merc Remember that conventional hour meters are very inaccurate, could have been replaced or left switched on
Yes you have skiers who watch. I am looking to replace my 1976 Johnson 200 on my hydrodyne. I assume you mean 2000 to 2006 Yamaha 200 for the fish and swim since those are the years you like for the 150 on the pontoon....
You left out the late 90's - early 2000's Merc Saltwater Series 150 & 200 (Blue Decals) which feature a few more durable SS exterior components. There are some out there in pristine condition, but you have to be diligent with your search.

I agree with it all but on the 16ft I would go with a 40 or 50 tohatsu. I do like that merc 50 though, very strong motor. Either way you couldn't go wrong with any of them.
You guys do a great job! I wish you would do something on what your opinions are on some deep v walleye boats. We basically bass fish but have 3 small kids and I dont think a bass boat would work for us.

What would you suggest for a 17’ checkmate used as a family ski boat? 150 Optimax or the 3.0 mercury 150 four stroke? Opti is way cheaper but the 4-stroke is within budget. Max hp rating is 150. A tower of power was removed so I’m adding 150 pounds of motor.

Would you consider -despite the rudeness of BRP with your invitation to the unveiling of their submarine outboard- an E-Tec 25 HP to repower my Boston Whaler Sport 11, for instance? I currently have a 1969 Chrysler 20 that belongs to dad and got this 1981 Sport 11 dingy and it puts it into plane with two adults and a kid on the lake. It's working, but I was thinking that the E-Tec 25 could be depreciated to the point that it made sense. Or perhaps it's "we need a bigger boat" kind of thinking. Can you chip in?

This is my opinion from FLORIDA what I’ve seen and going back 10 15 years. To the 50hp tiller in-line 4 merc. Good luck finding one. I found one Mariner 40 in line 4. A bunch of 2 and 3 cylinder. Now maybe a good tiller in southern state are commercial 45-60hp tiller OMC or Yamaha 40-60hp tiller. Yamaha 150 4 stroke you can find a ok here. Yamaha 150 is not bulletproof. The earlier models described 2000-05 had earlier gen balance shaft gearing made of inferior plastic type material. That thing goes and trashes the oiling on the motor. Took at least a couple more iterations to correct the issue.

Team Marine Service thanks for the videos very informative and I love you're blunt honesty and sense of humor😂👌 I was wondering what you're opinion would be on putting a 115 hp Optimax on a pontoon boat? We found a used one at a good price with only 79 hrs on it. The pontoon currently has a 40 hp mercury four stroke which runs great and is super quiet it's just not enough motor for the boat any input would be greatly appreciated thanks!
The only down side is that it is not very quiet at idle, and been a 3 cylinder engine it is not the smoothest, otherwise great engine Amazing fuel consumption
I’m very surprised for the bass boat he didn’t say a hpdi or like the late 90s like 98-99 vmax for bass boat he has said multiple times the Yamaha is superior for reliability. Always has talked about the problems of the optimax 🤷🏼♂️
200 Yamaha? Where I'm at (Florida) nobody will touch a used 200 Yamaha. The center sections have terrible corrosion problems in saltwater. Also, Yamaha 150s with their harmonic balancer problem, nah hard pass.

The only down side is that it is not very quiet at idle, and been a 3 cylinder engine it is not the smoothest, otherwise great engine
Amazing fuel consumption
I have a 91 Ranger 390V with a 91 Mercury 200 EFI, if ( or when) the motor goes bad should i rebuilt it or repower with a different motor
What fuel additive do you recommend?
I’m very surprised for the bass boat he didn’t say a hpdi or like the late 90s like 98-99 vmax for bass boat he has said multiple times the Yamaha is superior for reliability. Always has talked about the problems of the optimax 🤷🏼♂️
1995 Mariner 115. Or 96 150 Mercury Fuel Injected 2.5 XRI.. Reliable motors?
200 Yamaha? Where I'm at (Florida) nobody will touch a used 200 Yamaha. The center sections have terrible corrosion problems in saltwater. Also, Yamaha 150s with their harmonic balancer problem, nah hard pass.
I’d love to know your opinion/experiences with the gold block 250xs,
? parts how hard is it to get parts as these may need parts and you may be able to get parts but what about DYI and ETC
Is the 140 hp black motor 2002 mercury any good has 450 hours on the motor?
$5.39 for diesel is pretty awesome, now I don’t have to worry about what to do with my paycheck
For the fish and ski are we talking about the 200 3.3 v6?
My boat is rated for a 175. What would you suggest in the used market.
I get vmax but even more budget friendly 2stroke yamaha pro-v grrat motor
Opti-Max 2 stroke is like a broke drum, you can't beat it.
why do 150 yamaha 4 stroke smoke so bad
Ever had a zx200 in there with electrical problems lol?
Any plans for another good bad an ugly or brand battle
Yes we have one of each slotted very soon
@@TeamMarineService ok cool thanks 👍
05 Merc 60 horse 4 stroke efi good motors ?
What do you think of a 2008 merc 115 elpt
Looking at a used 2014 merc 75hp 4 stroke when you grab the prop it has vertical play (thrust play ) about 1/16 of an inch is this normal?
Funny stuff love it
No Yamaha OX66? Turn key and run it.
The OX is a great motor but a little too old
Little plug for JTM outboards! Jason knows HPDIs!
Hey Andy what are your thoughts on the 99 mercury 175efi.
Great motor.
The EFI's were solid
What no Zuke’s on the list?
