    This is your most informative video when it come to what you should get for your boat. We all cannot afford the cost of new motors and this video is what I've been waiting for. I'm gonna start looking for that Yammie 150

    The best used outboard is the one that best fits your budget.
    In reality though I see more older Johnson and evinrudes on the water than I do any other brand. Hands down.

    Best 150 hp bass boat motors where the Mercury XR6, and the Johnson Fast Strike/ Evinrude Intruder. For the 250 hp The Yamaha OX66 or Merc EFI 250 2 stroke.

    Johnson and Evinrude are still the most reliable out there. Easy to work on too!

      I have a 1972 65hp Johnson on my 16' tri-hull bassboat. It still runs great. Yes, it has the electric shift but that hasn't given me any problems yet. It is a simple motor and very easy to work on.

    • @hugoglenn9741
      @hugoglenn9741 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Had a Johnson 200GT. Yes, had 6 carbs so It doesn’t matter whatsoever if it’s reliable. One carb goes down (very easy since there are 6) or in my case one fuel hose connection to a carb gets loose(or cracks) and the motor will still seemingly run. However, you are about ready to trash a cylinder in about a minute. Since it’s a 2-stroke just throw it away.

    Got a 1972 Checkmate V-Mate II that we repowered with a 1987 Johnson GT200. Paid $1800 in good running condition. Came with a 23p prop and runs an easy 60MPH+ GPS with 4 adults and a big dog along for the ride. Exhaust is drilled, and sounds like an F1 car haha.

    The one thing I would say about the fish and ski. As a skier/wakeboarder myself, I’d prefer the 2 stroke torque to get me up asap. If it’s not a SHO there’s also a significant weight penalty which makes a difference. Great video 👍

    I’ve noticed used Suzukis going for a little less than used Yamahas actually in the Southeast. I like fact my Suzuki (Analog gauge) w/warning lights will blink out a malfunction code I can go to the repair manual a decode at home. Don’t have to drag it to a dealer (Yamaha) to get them to hook up a proprietary computer. One Benny not often mentioned. I think I just found out I have a bad fuel pump on my 80hp and I don’t think it blinked a code for that.

    50-4 merc. 70 triple omc. Any premix crossflow omc up to 235. Hell even the v8. Earlier 115 merc 4 cyl. 2.0 merc.. up to 35 and down to 1.5 any points /mag omc down to 1952.
    Cheap, easy to work on, parts are,, ehh not bad. Difference in initial cost and repairs offsets fuel costs.. I’ve got them and I swear by them and have never been stranded, I’ve limped in after turning rings or loosing coils I’ve force fed fuel after loosing a pump. I’ve run and sat when a water pump went and made it home.
    Obviously different engines with different problems.
    Now it’s great how efficient and reliable today’s motors are when they stop they stop. These old girls are relatively easy to work on with a minimum of tools. When a road vehicle dies out you pull over and call a tow. When your boat stops I don’t care if you’ve got 6 new 600’s! You better have the knowledge and ability to at least dive in and try to fix it.. your on a boat who knows where perhaps in nasty weather , perhaps in dangerous waters and where I’m from without cell signal which most of the boats we are discussing is all the communication device we have!
    Cheers. You guys are great. And omg! Force!🤮. Great top ten worst!!

    As someone who hangs on behind the boat, any form of Speed control becomes a game changer
    It is always so hard to find someone who can control the speed, easy to find someone who can point the boat down the river

    Yamaha 150 is not bulletproof. The earlier models described 2000-05 had earlier gen balance shaft gearing made of inferior plastic type material. That thing goes and trashes the oiling on the motor. Took at least a couple more iterations to correct the issue.

  • @dang5553
    @dang5553 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is my opinion from FLORIDA what I’ve seen and going back 10 15 years. To the 50hp tiller in-line 4 merc. Good luck finding one. I found one Mariner 40 in line 4. A bunch of 2 and 3 cylinder. Now maybe a good tiller in southern state are commercial 45-60hp tiller OMC or Yamaha 40-60hp tiller. Yamaha 150 4 stroke you can find a ok here. The 18 foot bass boat guy if he wants to save money the 100-130hp Yamaha will get it done. Fish and ski. If the boat is used a lot.
    Yamaha 200-250
    Suzuki 200-250
    Merc 200-250
    Truth is it’s a coin toss between the merc and Suzuki. Just because there’s more merc dealers and props
    Your 20 foot bass boat I agree. The one engine size u did not bring up. These are 25hp outboard after a full service I would trust them. The late late 80s to late 90s early 2000s 25hpOMC 98-2008 2 stroke 25 merc I think it went to 08. Yamaha 25 2stroke. Great small tillers in the south. The omc 25hp the 2 cylinder is the one I’m talking about. There all awesome 25hp tillers listed Honda was nice neat but after 08 it seemed late me Yamaha and Suzuki stepped it up

Isn't that the 1st generation four stroke motor that had several class actions against Yamaha for premature interior corrosion in the manifolds, that eventually would cause engine failure ? Just asking if I'm hearing you correctly, or you made a mistake on your generations of yamaha 4 stroke.

    Would you consider -despite the rudeness of BRP with your invitation to the unveiling of their submarine outboard- an E-Tec 25 HP to repower my Boston Whaler Sport 11, for instance? I currently have a 1969 Chrysler 20 that belongs to dad and got this 1981 Sport 11 dingy and it puts it into plane with two adults and a kid on the lake. It's working, but I was thinking that the E-Tec 25 could be depreciated to the point that it made sense. Or perhaps it's "we need a bigger boat" kind of thinking. Can you chip in?

    200 Yamaha? Where I'm at (Florida) nobody will touch a used 200 Yamaha. The center sections have terrible corrosion problems in saltwater. Also, Yamaha 150s with their harmonic balancer problem, nah hard pass.
