  • While "practicing" for our now RV Living Full time Life, in Dec. 2019 - Jan. 2020, we visited Silver Springs State Park in Central Florida, Florida's first tourist attraction, located along the Silver River. We stayed at the state park campgrounds for a week (see link below for campground tour video), and visited the attached park several times, walked the trails, road the Glass Bottom Boat, rented a canoe, saw gators, turtles, birds and a Manatee! Did we see a Rhesus Monkey?
Site to site tour of the Silver Springs State Park campground:
    • Silver Springs FULL Ca...
Besides, shopping at the Gift Center for my Florida State Park Passport book, eating a delicious chicken Cesar wrap at their restaurant, learning all about the history of the springs, including what was filmed here, we road the Famous Glass Bottom Boats, walked some trails, and rented a canoe- my favorite- along the Silver River. Gators of course, even baby gators, turtles, birds, and a Manatee- the highlight. Maybe you will see Rhesus Monkeys.
We hope you can spend more than a day here- there is so much to see and do.
"Silver Springs State Park, formerly known as Silver River State Park, is a Florida State Park located on the Silver River in Marion County. The park contains Silver Springs, Florida's first tourist attraction.
The Silver Springs attraction dates to the 1870s. In 1985 the state purchased the land surrounding Silver Springs to spare it from development, creating the Silver River State Park. In 1993 the state acquired Silver Springs as well, though it continued to be operated privately. In 2013 the state took over control of Silver Springs, merging it with the adjacent parkland to create Silver Springs State Park.
Glass-bottom boats are located within the park and are based at the site of the former Silver Springs Nature Theme Park.
Other activities include bicycling, canoeing, kayaking, camping, and wildlife viewing. Amenities include a museum and an environmental center that are open on weekends and major holidays. The park has 15 miles (24 km) of trails, access to the Silver River, ten luxury cabins, and a 59 site, full facility campground"

I'm glad to see that are restoring Silver Springs to its old glory. As a child my family would stop for a visit when visiting my grandparents in FL and we would stop by Silver Springs at least once and sometimes twice each visit. When it became commercialized we stopped coming. Rides and midway can be seen in dozens of parks in FL but nothing can surpass Silver Springs natural beauty.

It is a beautiful state park. We love canoeing there - the best way to see the real Florida.
There is a rumor they are going to open a swimming area? Not sure where

I've never been in a glass bottom boat. Wow, that look really awesome, and Turtles! 🐢 That bird knows the game. Picture then food. The canoe trip looked awesome. The manatee are so big. Thanks for sharing.

Honey and Me Susan, hi. Yes. The boat is cool but I think I want to do the extended next time. The canoe is where you get the best pics and video. Thanks for another visit. I hope this video made you feel warm for a bit 🤣. Alice

Nice job, Great video content , production value and informative ! ..I'm a native Floridian and you even succeeded in making me want to road trip to see Silver Springs again !! Seriously its been 30 years + and the place looks completely different from when it was on its last dying breaths as a Florida once famous Attraction and trying to compete with Disney. Herpetologist Ross Allen had retired and moved on and passed away and the Seminoles had moved their village.
It looked like an end of an Old Florida era. The Spring was in sad shape and most of Florida's other Springs have been growing dark from Tannic acid from the trees and environmental runoff .So it was really great to see in your video the Spring actually looking so clear and see how the State of Florida has actually done and all right job in managing the Natural Asset. So Thank you for sharing this video and advocating visiting the Silver Springs State Park. I'll be sure and tell them when I visit with a film crew that its because of your video that we are using the state Park as a shooting location. All the Best! - Brian Hansard Producer

Brian, wow. I don’t know what to say. We are very flattered.
I do research when looking at an area for a video. I couldn’t believe what I read about how much the springs were polluted. Horrible. But now they are working hard to continue to rejuvenate the area.
We are constantly struggling to decide to do a separate video from our campground tours. They usually don’t get a lot of views. So this makes us very proud.
Larry is responsible for the production quality. He works very hard on each new video to improve. When I read your comment to him, he knew his hard work payed off.
Thanks again for making our day. If you haven’t been there in 30 years, you will be amazed. The Real Florida is what we are interested in.

NixPix Hey. I blame the gator thing on Larry 😂. I never went as a kid but did go a few times years ago. I definitely prefer staying at the campground and taking my time. Visiting the park over several days. Thanks for visiting it again with us. Alice

Been to Silver Springs a long time ago. We want to go back, one of these days... Haha. The glass bottom boat is really interesting, being able to see down in the clear water. The kayaking trip looks fun, especially the gator count. Great video, Larry and Alice.

Lucky Dawg Productions Hey, Bob. You should definitely go back when you can and stay at the campground. That way you aren’t rushed. Canoe and kayak trips are my favorite. You see more animals that way. Thanks for joining us. Alice

Ok, say no more. This will be part of our next Florida trip. But I’ll stay away from those dinosaur gators. Baby Rosalie will lose her mind when she sees the glass bottom. And for me, I love former movie and tv locations. Larry is too brave for me messing with that gator. Thanks for sharing this amazing place. Really cool you also saw a manatee.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Santos Chronicles Rosalie would love the Glass Bottom Boat. Plus there’s lots of open land to play, even a frog slide. Canoe. You can steer clear of gators. Just don’t go with a “Larry” 😂. I do hope you make it there. You can rent a cabin at the campground. Keep having fun. Alice

Dang y'all did so much better on this review then I did on mine. You killed it. I loved this. I did not get to see any monkeys. The glass bottom boat ride is amazing. We done the extended ride and it was well worth the money. Larry you could have bumped her by the water when taking the bird picture and the video would for sure go viral. lol I know the end result of that but you got to take one for the team sometimes. hahaha. Oh man the paddle shot was great. I am so impressed. Dang y'all I just keep watching and this gets better. This has by far been my favorite video y'all have done. Thank y'all for this incredible share. Now I want to go back.

Camper Life William. You better behave. If Larry does “accidentally” knock my into the water, I’m coming after you. I think I’d like to do the extended tour. We’ve never done it. We now have our own canoe, so next time we can take our time. Thanks for the compliments. You know Larry is always trying to up his video game. It would be cool if we could all go back together. Who knows. Talk soon. Alice

That was pretty interesting. When I was kid, more than 60 years ago, my parents took me and my older brothers camping in Florida. I don't recall much, but do remember talk about a glass bottom boat and seeing an alligator "farm". I remember going to a state campground and playing on a swing set. I think I may have been there in the late 1950's. I fell off the swing and knocked out my front "baby" teeth. My parents slept on an air mattress in the back of our station wagon, I slept in the front seat and my brothers slept in a stinky canvas tent. Thanks for the videos and the memories.

Linda Barker Linda, hi. This park has gone through a lot of changes. We decided we needed a distraction. So working on this helped. We hope others enjoy it too. Hi Larry and Alice, we were there in early 2000’s when the state park first opened. The monkeys pulled our son out of our hands, it was horrifying! and they scurried into the woods tossing him like a football among themselves with poor little Eric crying MAMA! The monkeys raised our son like one of there own…Just kidding, sorry I have a morbid sense of humor. But we were there when they first opened. Not much there yet, I think they had one 5 minute trail and that was about it. Fast forward to this year 2021 and we are going again this December 🤪. Cant wait to see another one of your videos, if my wife allows me to 🥴

    • @DownsizingMakesCents

Joe, you actually had me going for a bit 🤣. I was actually disappointed we never saw any monkeys, but we still had a blast.
      Hope you enjoy your stay.
If you prank her like me, you may not live to see another video 😉
