When you talk about why you do things, I always get a lot more useful info - it helps to see if your reasons for liking or not liking something align with what I want to get from my FPV experience. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the sharing your thoughts about the purchase! It is really great to see people having a similar though process as me. I do run the Dom V3s and recently purchased the HDOs, but need to wait a couple of weeks for them to arrive. My reasoning, the same as you: 4:3, larger FOV and high contrast. I really hope it delivers to your expectations and to mine. In combination with the Rapidfire I preordered it should be an awesome combo!
John E. Doing your best to pursue your passion is never a waste of time. The goggles may improve your lap times or not- (I certainly don't think they'll slow you down), however, knowing that you're doing everything you can to improve is what is important. Keep flyin' fast!
Have you experienced the Pixel Screen of Death yet? If you do. Do not update firmware just yet. Dvrs of some users are getting bricked by the Pixel Screen Fix. Talk about it more in my video
Yes I have seen it. It doesn't really bother me though. As soon as I start flying, I completely ignore it. I'm in no rush to fix it at this point. Luckily for me Fatshark had already pulled the firmware down before I received my goggles. So I didn't have a chance to install it even if I wanted to.
Your really going to like it! Love mine. Much better detail and contrast. I can see gates from much farther away. Less motion blurt in really fast manuvers.
I think upgrading from Dom V3 will make a difference in your flying. That said I don't think for people already using HD3 would benefit much from HDO. Enjoy them. I will wait for a year or two before i move on from the HD3 which i bought in december... after finally deciding my box goggles are just a pain to take everywhere...
Yea let us know what you think of them. I too fly the Dom V3 and I'm wandering if the larger fov and 4:3 would be a better fit since most of my cameras are 4:3. Thanks!
Can't wait to see your comments. We fly in the same conditions after work. I know you used this Camera but with the micro eagle we are flying into dark with no problem seeing the gates. They are white though.
I really liked the micro eagle, but with that camera too I started destroying them. So I wound up switching back tot he micro sparrow. The key was I switched to a TPU canopy which fully covered the camera, hoping it would prevent me from breaking any more cameras. The micro eagle lens won't fit in the TPU canopy I was using. I still had a micro eagle in one rig though, so I did try it when I was flying in that condition last time. It was much better than the micro sparrow, but still not as good as I would have hoped. I also think white gates would have helped. Using green pool noodles in front of green grass during sunset is a REALLY bad combination... but such is life I suppose... The yellow quaddiction gates also show up much better in these conditions... The key for me though was that the guy I'm flying with has a WAY easier time seeing all of these gates than I do. I want to get to that point. It'll help me to keep up and push myself.
I'd probably have gone for white noodles or a micro eagle due to the big price tag of these goggles... but each to their own. I hope you find them to be a marked improvement and a worthwhile purchase.
Thanks brother. I have used multiple micro eagles. They help, but they aren't perfect either. I would much prefer better noodle colors, but they aren't my gates. I want to be ready for as many scenarios as possible. Hopefully these deliver!
Detroit!! Nice things make life nice - Jack Black, Envy So I switched from HD3,s to the HDO. For me its a better version of the HD3. I am used to 4:3 so basically a sharper, crisper image. Can’t wait to hook in the new rapidFire!
lol get you some nightvison that what i did or no ir screen lenes then you can fly in head light or just street light. its so dark some times i use the kwad to get my stuff cause i cant see with out goggles. hope you like the oled screens careful of osd burnin i hear lg oleds tv had the issue with static image burn.
I hope there is no issue with OLED burn-in. For what it's worth, I have an LG OLED 4K TV, and have yet to have any issues with burn-in (it does have an automatic screensaver though). My phone is also an OLED screen and I haven't seen any burn-in issues. Hopefully it's not an issue with these goggles!
it happened to ppl on news channels mostly any static image for long time but i think lg did firmware update. i dont think in the time we use goggles it will be issue but fulltime racers might get it. you going to go for the new immersion module i hear its ultra fast switching keeps image clear in multipath conditions
lol just saw Jon e5 's channel and hdo might have pixel issue at bottom of screen but the update might have a issue with dvr malfunction th-cam.com/video/FQL5-FNGwUQ/w-d-xo.html
It does have a bottom row pixel issue. If you look at the bottom you can't miss it. However, during flying you don't notice at all. It really doesn't bother me. I'm in no rush to fix it. Once a proper patch is out and it's been thoroughly tested I'll consider updating.
A slight upgrade for $100 more. Maybe they should do something like put in a on/off switch, better DVR, built in 5v regulator for the fan so the balance plug isn't needed, etc. OLED has been around for a long time and they just now started using it? I bet these don't cost them anymore to make but they have a premium price. Fatshark is the Apple of the FPV community, milking us for our money one little incremental upgrade at a time. Why? because they know we will buy them. I'm sticking with my HD3s until there's a real upgrade.
i'm in tge same boat more or less. try the foxeer micro arrow pro. not the v3 the wdr makes them amazing in low light. i can fly right through sunset and sqweez a few more laps in. I have a video. looking forword to the review.
In typical me fashion, LOTS! I have a bunch of micro swift and micro swift 2 cameras from before I decided I couldn't fly 4:3 cameras with 16:9 goggles anymore. I'll use those again. I also have a Caddx SDR1 and the Micro Eagle which are 16:9 cameras but offer a "cropped" 4:3 aspect ratio. I don't expect either of those to be my primary camera though, but I'm open to trying them and seeing. Lastly, I have a Foxeer Micro Predator and a Foxeer Micro Predator 2. I'm thinking these will wind up being the cams I use on my primary racing quad. But I'll test them all and find the best option that works for me.
Haha, my bad! I will say that the HDOs have been absolutely amazing for me. Definitely one of the better decisions I made this year. They did not wind up helping me see much better in late twilight hours. That definitely has WAY more to do with the camera. However, the 4:3 aspect ratio and the 37 degree FOV wound up being perfect for me. I think an HD3 probably would have been close to as good for me, but that screen just looks that little bit better.
Only good thing about fat shark prices is they keep their value. You can still sell an old pair of dominators for Like 350. So it's like if you invest in one pair, you get the next 80% off lol
Micro swift 2 4:3 with a 2.1 lens is awesome. Though I run HD3 it will be almost the same view in your HD0. Good luck man i watch your stuff all the time, great info! Carefull with the micro swift 3. That lens is out there alot farther than I thought. I have one but didnt install it for that reason. The DVR below is the micro swift 2. th-cam.com/video/2kHWSb171_8/w-d-xo.html
Thanks man! I've flown the Micro Swift and Micro Swift 2 quite a bit. That's what I used before switching to 16:9 cams and the Runcam Micro Sparrow. Personally I always preferred the 2.3mm lens over the 2.1mm lens though. I like feeling like I'm flying slower over the fast sensation and amazing FOV that the 2.1mm lens gives you. Did you ever compare the 2.1 vs 2.3mm lens? I know the 2.1mm lens seems to be much more popular, so I'm probably the weird one. But I definitely like to test everything and find what works best for me.
John E Fly I started out flying freestyle and just this year started racing. Always used the wider lens flying freestyle so I just kept using them. I think I have a 2.3 around. I will have to give it a shot. I practice on those small gates I made with the 2.1mm in the video. Making more and a cube but right now I am mainly practicing the corkscrew for my quilifier June 16 in Greenville SC.
So kind! Work on making it out to the races and stuff first. I feel like it's been forever since I've seen you around! Look forward to racing with you again sometime soon!

RC Eagle, HDO's and Clearview. Winning combo. Boom.
Good luck, and yeah video is the most important part of flying well.
You look so happy to have a hdo. Enjoy the goggle^^. I like the way you talk about it...
RunCam RC18 lens to take full advantage of the aspect ratio on the track imo. Good luck Sir! 👊👍

Looking forward to your thoughts on the HDO's and what new sacrificial cameras you'll pair them up with.
I HOPE HOPE HOPE I wind up with a more durable camera.... One can dream!
Well, all I can do is wish you all the luck. 😊
Link to buying the hdo headstrap?
I did the same thing, dom v3 to HDO, I really like the fov and the contrast way better.
really like your videos mate
Thanks brother! That means a lot!
Can the foam and strap from the hdo be bought separately?
I'd probably have gone for white noodles or a micro eagle due to the big price tag of these goggles... but each to their own.
I hope you find them to be a marked improvement and a worthwhile purchase.

You have to see them to believe it. They are awesome. Goodbye ghost branches!
i'm curious because i fly also the '16/9' V3 dominator...
it is a great upgrade from the Dom v3 ... I love my HDO
Detroit!!

I've never understood the whole 16:9 thing, hope they are as good as they sound!

yeah i would do same just didnt want you to kill your dvr over the pixels
Insta sub only for the intro, I do the exact same process when unboxing 😂
Good luck , hope they improve your view, looking at getting a set... maybe, what reciever you gonna use, the new immersion rc, rapid fire is coming.🤙🏻
You think like me! ;)

I just watched a comparison video on the micro predator v2. If they fixed the low light issues from V1 it will be the best new camera no doubt!
Well...still waiting for the HDO convolution/opinion.

@@JohnEFly thanks for the reply. Nice to hear it rally can be step op. I actually already just now 😁
Keep the video's coming.
When I get them with rapidfire in 2020 for $330

Awesome!
Good luck. I think you'll learn better ways to see your entry / exit points . New gear, new lessons.
get a night vision cam bam cheaper to
tense opening lol
Could have saved $100 and get hd3

Cool man! Good luck on your qualifier!
I have been flying both to see what i like better. I think the 2.3mm seems more accurate for me. Still like the 2.1 for freestyle though.
Lol
Looking forward to seeing your findings.
Dude. You totally wasted your money and will be wasting time testing it. Get rid of the goggles. Send them to me pls 😜😜😜
You bought to make a video and follow the hype train. That's why lol
definitely wasted your money.......I'll give you $two fiddy for them to help you out .... ;)
So kind! Work on making it out to the races and stuff first. I feel like it's been forever since I've seen you around! Look forward to racing with you again sometime soon!
looks like your pesky day job is getting I the way of your practice...
LOL! That pesky family and life responsibilities too... ha
