Andy, great video as always, it wouldnt do any harm to explain in basic terms what a device does at the start of the video, it's use cases and the like. Its just we have a lot of new people entering the space so it's helpful for starters.
Algorithm showed me the thumbnail. Thought it was a smartphone. This comment implies it's not. Halfway through the video i have no idea what's going on.
Once I bought two t-decks and one of them got the same laggish problem. However, I found that somewhat a little tini tiny capacitor near the touch screen conector had high ESR, so I removed it and solved the lag. Maybe during the soldering the capacitor got damaged or was a bad batch from the supplier. According to the schematic there are three capacitors near the touch screen connection, two of them are on the vcc (CW6 10uf, CW7 100nf) and one on the reset line (CW24 100nf), maybe CW24 was leaky and pulling the reset line low enough causing intermitency. Could be this thing happening on the plus version too? By the way very nice review.
this is a massive, huge upgrade in actual usability. thanks for the update Andy -- you just got yourself a subscriber for staying so closely on top of this!
You can get 2 days because that UI is designed to not enable Bluetooth since it is meant to be a full standalone unit. Leaving the Bluetooth disabled cuts down on consumption by almost half.

Hey Andy, been using you to track the meshtastic progress since I experimented with some of the first t-beams that came out. There are only about 4 devices active in my city within 200km so I thought I might get into it again and set up dome solar nodes on the biggest high points for everyone's benefit. It would be really cool to see you pull all your devices out in one video and go over what you would recommend currently for different use cases and which ones have become obsolete. Right now I've got a bunch of heltec mesh nodes in the cart for this project but if you have alternative recommendations it would be good to hear! Thanks for the vids!
Hey, glad you like the video. It's good you are thinking of setting up some good nodes to help the mesh. Take a look at the RAK wisblock devices, their built in solar input works very well indeed. It's still a good idea to use a battery protection module on your battery so that the node will restart if the battery depletes and solar energy returns to the panel.
E-Paper! The display needs to be E-Paper! Also the radio needs to be hackable for wider frequencies. To make the network more secure you need to do burst broadcasting on wide frequencies to make it harder to track.
Looks good. At this step is just a pity not having a water-resistant case already included. Antenna-wise also seems like a problem to get proper reception at some range. Anyways, it is an excellent upgrade in a short time since the previous one.
Hey, join my discord to keep up to date with the progress. We have a GUI firmware channel there now. You can sponsor the project if you like it and help the main developer get it finished 😁
My wife and I are often in the middle of nowhere with no mobile signal. We occasionally split up and take different routes and, for safety, we are on radios. They're a pain due to the size and antenna flapping around. The little meshtastic boards can go in a pocket and have very good range. They are also capable of broadcasting the GPS location, which is a great improvement over radios where someone has to manually find their position and communicate it. I'm experimenting with a node on the dog as most trackers need a mobile signal. Also looking at these for SAR teams.
@@TheMRTVIDTo be more precise it allows for a meshtastic node that doesn't need a client such as a smartphone connected in order to give people the whole experience.
