KIA Telluride Catch Can Installation to Help Prevent the Carbon Buildup Problem with GDI Engines

  • How to install a baffled catch can on the 2020 and 2021 KIA Telluride. This is done to help prevent the carbon buildup on the intake valves that plague these GDI engines, including the Lambda 2 Hyundai engines found in the Tellurides. This drain was after a little less than 1,000 miles. This engine has less than 4,000 miles on it. I used the Mishimoto baffled catch can. You can use any 2 port catch can, but i would recommend baffling. Very happy with the results.

    I have an Audi Q7 and it's a hot mess because it's set up this way. It basically has a permanent check engine light from clogged passage ways in the engine. I'm about to buy a Telluride. Thanks for the video!

    I notice your return line fron the can to the intake manifold dips down somewhat and then comes back up. Is there any concern with oil/water pooling in that low spot, and potentially freezing and blocking the line in the winter?

    This is why I won’t be purchasing any vehicle with a GDI engine, other then Toyota who seems to have solved this problem with a dual system. Was going to get a Telluride, would this improvement void the warranty, as any manufacturer would look for an out if there is an engine failure which Kia has had quite a few.

      Have you seen the Kia tellurides their beautiful, I would purchase one or any gdi only with the knowledge of catch cans otherwise Yae get a Toyota. And Yae they may try to scare you into warranty void

      Just remove every oil change that’s why it’s important to install your way you can make it easy to install back to factory.

    Hey I’m about to do this exact install on my wife’s telluride, is there any way you could send me some close up photos of the hose you spliced into coming off the pcv? Thank you

    I've got a new Palisade, same engine. Probably going to do the same thing. Thanks for the video.

    Do you think you could por seafoam into the catch can and when the engine is running it will gradually pull vacuum and atomize the seafoam into the intake and clean the valves for you?

    What oil are you going with? I saw valvoline has a modern engine oil that is supposed to be better for GDi engines but that oil doesn't have the proper rating on it that Kia wants you to use.

    • @henrytom5824
      @henrytom5824 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont trust any oil. A catch can is the answer lol maybe in the future someone can fix this or just get rid of gdi but their are benefits to gdi but the down falls like carbon buildup not a good.

    Happens if you just close the PVC system or redirect the dirty air outside?

    • @biz4twobiz463
      @biz4twobiz463 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the systems are closed for environmental reasons. Otherwise, your modern car would be like a 1940's, 50's, 60's car dropping it on the ground as you drive. YES, that's what they used to do, before the closed systems. Really, NOT an option in todays world.

    • @mikeg3529
      @mikeg3529 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe most cars nowadays monitor PCV flow so if you change the path to have it vent outside instead of back into the intake it'll cause a check engine light and may effect drivability.
      Venting it to atmosphere would be ideal though, since that would 100% eliminate any oil/contamination from entering the intake valves.

    Great video. I noticed you have PINK Coolant/Antifreeze. I've been trying to help my elderly friend, calling multiple dealers, to find the best radiator coolant for his Telly. Every Kia dealer swears they only use green coolant which gets delivered from Kia. But just like your Telly, his is full of the pink stuff. Maybe they install the pink stuff at the factory? But if so, what is it exactly? HUGE MYSTERY.

    Will in some way installing catch can void warranty

  • @gunnardotson5822

    If baffles me you even have to do it. This is a brand new vehicle. Kia should have the workaround made.

    • @Denali_Rebel
      @Denali_Rebel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      California doesn’t allow catch cans and auto manufacturers don’t want to eliminate an entire state from purchasing their vehicles so that won’t happen.

    • @Indylimburg
      @Indylimburg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also a catch can is one more thing that the consumer has to know about and maintain. Imagine how many average users would never check the catch can and let it fill all the way up until it's pouring into the intake.

    To anyone watching this and wanting more info on the install - this video has everything you need. I bought mine here (way cheaper than most and very good quality) and installed it last week. Super easy.
