    Her little high-pitched meow is so adorable. What a sweet kitty and a loving owner. It's good to see people giving the shy and anxious cats a chance! They are terribly overlooked in shelters and rescue organizations.

      Yes. And it was so sad how she shied away as soon as she smelled the food - a sign of how it used to be dangerous for her to show interest in food in case other animals would hurt her and compete with her for it. :( Good on this woman for taking care of her and recognizing her fear and helping her to feel safe.

    I rescued a beautiful ragdoll cat from a shelter. He was so traumatised and hid in a covered litter tray, but I was determined to get him out of that situation. He was housed with another cat who bullied him terribly. Smokey never fully got over whatever trauma he had endured the first 7 or so months of his life. He would meow exactly like this little girl. He was so beautiful. I had him for over 10 years, and he remained shy and aloof. But I loved him and gave him the space he needed and thoroughly enjoyed the times he came and lay on my bed or on my knee. He became incredibly sick, and we were back and forth to the vet. He became much closer to me during his final weeks. I would lay with him for hours. Sadly, he passed away, but I think he knew I loved him, and he was safe with me. I am so glad I gave him a safe, gentle home to just be himself 💕

    The secret is to let them come to you. My cat did the same. Hid for days. I would not even acknowledge her unless she came out. I didnt bug her. I let her be and she came to me on her own terms. Never trying forcing it. Just leave them be. They'll come around. Eventually. Took my cat 2 months to hang out by me and 8 to hang out close. 2 years to hang out on my bed. Just how it is. Who am I to tell her how to live her life? She's old enough to make her own decisions.

    • @Ass_of_Amalek
      @Ass_of_Amalek ปีที่แล้ว +13

      it's similar with dogs. don't come too close, and also don't keep either your body or your face pointed at them (because that looks like you're about to move closer). I think with scared dogs, short eye contact that you break is good, whereas with scared cats I'm not sure if they appreciate any eye contact (they give less feedback than dogs). if you do make eye contact, break it with that cat slow blink. I also do it with dogs, but it's a cat thing.

      @@deannam3670 This video made me so happy, you did a great job with her. Patience is what a lot of people lack when it comes to extremely traumatized cats, they just need to proceed slowly and gently and eventually the cat will come around. She is so adorable, I have a Maine Coon girl named Kira with a very similar personality and voice. That chirping and trilling is a typical Maine Coon trait. It would be cool to have a DNA sample analyzed, they can show what combination of breeds she is as well as any possible hereditary health problems to look out for. 😻💜

    That's the perfect way to interact with a shy cat. Let them take their time and show them that you aren't going to harm them. They most likely have had a traumatic experience with humans and are just being cautious. Alot of people don't understand that you have to earn a cat's trust and affection, and once you do, it's an amazing feeling and you completely feel the love that the cat gives. You have to be patient, understanding, and a source of comfort and a safe place for them to open up and be vulnerable.

    Nice story. Thanks for staying with the cat. We took into our home a feral cat which was about 2 years old. The first 2 weeks she hid behind the toilet in the master bedroom. She did find and use the litter box and ate from the food dish when humans were not around. After 2 weeks she walked out of the bathroom and hid under our bed for another 2 weeks. One night when I was laying down on the bed she jumped up on the bed and laid down on my chest. We slowly bonded and now we are inseparable. I really enjoy stories such as the one in the video.

    I had his food/water bowl next to it and litter box bit away and just let him have all the time he needed.

    I have two cats. One (the older)I brought home because she was going to be displaced by a dog, and the other (the younger) opened my patio screen door and moved herself in. The older took a while to come to terms with the situation, but now she "hums" when she's purring, and it's one of the sweetest sounds I've ever heard. The younger comes to snuggle with me several times a day.

    I remember my brother and his wife finding an abandoned kitten in a hot shed in Florida. He was so tiny and malnourished that you could see his ribs. When I first met him I remember him hobbling over to me and just taking his place in my lap before falling asleep; he was the sweetest kitten ever and grew up to be even more sweet. His name was Marty and I miss him everyday, even if he wasn't my cat. I'm hoping one day I can adopt a cat and give them a home. This video is so sweet and makes me so happy to see

    If you needed to bring her back to the shelter that would be okay? I almost threw up. Why would anyone take such a sweetheart back!?
    I'd create so many shelves and bridges and cardboard fortresses in my place for her. There'd be a food and water bowl in every room of the house.

    We were visited by a feral cat who sheltered in our greenhouse. It took 5 years to win his full trust. Hes sleeping on my bed right now his back pressed against my leg. You have to consider that an outdoor cat has a huge amount of new things to overcome and get comfortable with all at once -things we take for granted
