FYI, they didn't "wait" to file the lawsuit. Maryland recently removed the statute of limitations on these types of lawsuits. This is mostly being done because of all the horrid child sex abuse by religious entities that is continuing to be uncovered.

There's a couple of things about Patterson allegedly being involved in the ring boy scandal that never added up: - Look at the guys who made allegations against Patterson: musclebound roid freaks like Brickhouse Brown, Tony Atlas, Jim Powers... and we are expected to believe that, at the same time, he also liked teenage boys? - Take another look at the guys who made allegations: None of them ever amounted to anything afterwards. Only one of them (Paul Roma) managed to make a name for himself on a national level through WHATEVER means in WCW. The rest? Angry failures with a chip on their shoulders claiming that Patterson ruined their careers, when they never made much of a career anywhere else, either. - The worst allegations by one of the boys against Petterson was a pat on the butt and "looking leeringly". The allegations against Philips and Garvin were much more detailed, substantial and explicit. All three were investigated, the charges against Patterson were dropped. Now, there is one thing I will concede, but it has nothing to do with the ring boys scandal: Paul Roma to me has some merit or at least credibility. He did manage to get a foot in the door at another major promotion after leaving WWF (where he already been given several opportunities, mind you). And going by rare pictures of Patterson's husband, Roma was a similar "type". So that's something that cannot be dismissed as easily as other claims. But again, this can't and mustn't be conflated with the ring boys scandal.
I’m more convinced than ever before, pat patterson was involved in some kind of inappropriate behavior. Since he was invaluable to Vince, everyone covered for him.
Everyone from that era of the company said that Pat would rub butts and crotches etc. and then play it off as a joke. Evidently Pat told some of the wrestlers that if he knew a guy was being demoted or fired, he would "jokingly" proposition them by saying that in order to get more opportunities, they would have do sexual favors for Pat. They typically would reject his advances but Pat wouldn't necessarily tell them it was a joke... It sounds like Pat was a creep who played it off as being a joke and being "in character", which BTW, Ron Jeremy and Ric Flair also have done.
Seems like Jim is completely confounded by the concept of legal succession. That's why TKO is among the defendants. Whatever skeletons WWF/WWE as a business entity had in the closet, they're TKO's skeletons now, because "WWE" is now basically a brand of the company that World Wrestling Entertainment, LLC and the company that owned and operated the UFC - Zuffa, LLC (owned by Endeavor Group Holdings, Inc.) - merged into. If Endeavor as a 51% owner of TKO since 2023 has a problem with that, they need to sue Scatman Lupton as the person who owned the controlling share of World Wrestling Entertainment when the deal was signed. Caveat emptor. They should have done more thorough research and preparation before they bought - it's not like the ring boys story is previously unknown information. Vince already had to finally pay his victim Rita Chatterton to get his deal with Endeavor. They knew that Vince is a rapist and sadistic pervert. They knew that Vince made no distinction between himself as a private person and Titan Sports/WWF/WWE as a business entity, for decades. He always treated WWE's finances and business affairs as if they were his own private ones. What on Earth made Ari Emanuel's lawyers think that the Adult Surivivors Act and similar laws in other states couldn't bring other dark parts from WWE's history back to the surface? The company and the person who ran/owned it, systematically treated people like crap for decades, in various ways. One of the purposes of the ASA is that scumbags like Vince, who thought they got away with what they did and enabled, because they were protected by a statute of limitations, can now be held accountable with civil lawsuits from their victims. Good!
Mel Phillips was always at the Boston garden in the 80s. He would bring ring jackets back to locker room. I may be remembering wrong but didn’t Terry Funk have some angle with him on tv? Lawyers will tell their clients to sue everyone. They do this in hopes that the parties involved will settle out of court. It's to get as much money, possible.
It's weird that Jim seems confused about TKO being sued. I'm no lawyer, but I do know that the early 90s scandals are documented in a number of places and it would be amateurish of TKO to purchase WWE without knowing about them. So in my eyes TKO bought the company knowing these things had happened, therefore it assumes some legal responsibility for potential ramifications. If Jim bought the bakery he refers to, knowing that there were credible allegations of children being sexually assaulted by some of its employees over a sustained period of time, and the bakery owner had never taken any responsibility for those sexual assaults in a court of law, presumably Stephen P New would advise Jim that, as the new owner of the bakery, he was potentially making himself liable for any compensation claims by the victims?
When the trafficking accuser did not receive her nda payment, TKO first said they did not understand the obligation Vince Mccmahon had to pay, so now the precedent is they bought the company via sale conducted by Vince Mcmahon, therefore they have some responsibility to the accounting, liability. Vince Mcmahon was employed by TKO until they fired him. They had due diligence for sale.
They Rehired Him Probably because He Was their pimp/dealer. He probably gave others in the business access to his "inventory". This is all speculation tho. The Wrestling business is very dark and dirty. Too many people will closed their mind to it. I'm glad this is all coming out.
Mel Philips may have been a creep but he was a hell of a ring announcer. He was the second most recognizable voice of the 80s as far as ring announcers.
Kristine Jarrett didn't do anything about Lawler and his penchant for young girls. Watts didn't do anything about Grizzly, etc. These things were usually tolerated, let's face it.
I love how people are going after Jim and Mick about this. They were not there, period. The story surrounded this guy Phillips and Garvin. The media added Patterson because everyone knew he was gay, Vinces's #2, so let's get them and hang the consequences. I wasn't there either. Did Vince know? Yes--that man knew everything and if he didn't see it, he would be told.
Patterson isn't only added because he's gay, he's added because he also engaged in creepy inappropriate behavior. I don't think Patterson was involved in the ring boys but he doesn't come out clean
I believe the reasoning for including TKO in the lawsuit (besides the long shot of getting a settlement from them) is they may be forced to perform an internal investigation into the allegations. In the event that they have any findings (40-45 years after it happened), it could possibly be used as more ammunition in their lawsuit against Vince.
It probably wasn't inherently sexual. Phillips more than likely got some sort of sexual gratification from it even if it wasn't outright sexual. When I was a kid, my parents had a family friend that used to obsessively tickle the shit out of me until I started crying every time he saw me. My parents just thought it was funny and he never touched me in bad places. A few years later, he got arrested for sexually abusing his 11-year-old granddaughter. Suddenly my mom remembered how he used to tickle me all the time and put 2 + 2 together.
Moreso what happened is that a whistle blower forwarded the video to the FBI, the FBI said it didn't clearly show anything illegal, and the FBI did little if any further investigation into Phillips. But if they had done more digging.... But it's incredibly obvious that Law Enforcement turned a blind eye to abuse in the entertainment industry for years. Look at Harvey Weinstein and Jimmy Savillle.

The only defense I’d see wwf give is “well, Pat did nothing wrong.” Best case scenario, 2 of the three men were undisputed pedophiles that were allowed to work on events that provided them access to children. That’s the BEST case scenario! It’s just super weird how quickly this was all dismissed years ago.
Corny soft pedaling Monsoon too. He made jokes on-air not just about Garvin but also about Patterson & Phillips. He knew and found it funny.
And he soft-pedals Christine Jarrett too. Jerry Lawler’s proclivities were an open secret.

Cornette has covered Grizzly Smith several times, on several different shows. Grizzly didn’t have a ring crew of kids, in which he took from town to town. Grizzly was much more subtle, and was pretty much replaced by Dundee shortly after Cornette arrived.
Part of Grizzly being able to do that was his political power from it.
Local state and law officials were also having sex with those young girls, and giving Grizzly carte blanche.

Isn't it clear that Mel Phillips had some kind of blackmail over someone? Why what's works they bring him back. Come on
Pat Patterson, Terry Garvin, Mel Philips, you name it used their position of power to take advantage of young boys and were able to worm out of it much like Bill Cosby because what little kid doesn't want to see the matches for free and what little kid doesn't want to be in the same building as the wrestlers they follow? It's sickening to think all these people are dead except Vince who in himself is weird with women.
There's a couple of things about Patterson allegedly being involved in the ring boy scandal that never added up:
- Look at the guys who made allegations against Patterson: musclebound roid freaks like Brickhouse Brown, Tony Atlas, Jim Powers... and we are expected to believe that, at the same time, he also liked teenage boys?
I think Phillips put on his cowboy hat to bring to the back, and Funk took exception and pulled him over the ropes and kicked his ass?
Roddy Piper, Marty Jannetty, blockhouse brown, Paul Roma and Jim powers have all outted Patterson as a predator. Stop defending the guy because he was a great booker

As a mother idk how his daughter enabled him.

I believe the reasoning for including TKO in the lawsuit (besides the long shot of getting a settlement from them) is they may be forced to perform an internal investigation into the allegations. Another interesting bit is that the FBI has a video of Philips wrestling with kids but they didnt find it sexual.
It has been said that a settlement was reached with them in the early 90s, so how can they sue now if that is correct

@Robby_C 1. its artificial in that it creates the appearance of a booming business when attendance hasn't truly grown, and in many cases is smaller
