I think that most people who are in the business know that Dave Meltzer is a joke at this point. When he fell for the joke post about AEW’s expenses and salaries, and he erroneously reported the death of a wrestler recently, he lost his credibility. He didn’t acknowledge Jim Cornette’s generous donations because Cornette rightfully calls out Meltzer’s credibility. I agree with you. Hey James, you’re a good man. Not only have you helped Dutch out a lot behind the scenes financially and with various things, you also donated publicly. As for Meltzer. He’s like the Dale Winton of wrestling. He was everywhere in the 90s, odd to look at in the 2000s irrelevant in the 2010s. Whilst Winton is physically dead Meltzer is only metaphorically.

Dave could have written a nice article about Dutch, encouraged people to donate, and wished him well. It would have made people go "Hey, maybe he's not such a prick". Instead, Dave takes what could have been a nice fluff piece about Dutch and the wrestling community supporting him during a bad situation and he makes it all about AEW and, in a way, himself. I really hope this makes even more people turn away from Dave.
I used to watch wrestling in the 90s (mostly WWF & ECW) haven't watched nearly anything since 2003. But I do like keeping tabs on wrestlers via interviews/podcasts/twitter etc. I mention this because I nearly never comment on anything unless it's positive (like the Stevie Richards show which is awesome, or Mick's podcast which is closed now etc) The thing that has always rubbed me wrong is Dave Meltzer, and this only confirms it, what a prick. He genuinely didn't need to say ANYTHING, could've ignored this, but instead had to shoehorn his shit into, as you said, a lovely wee thing the wrestling community has done to help out a legend in dire need. Keep up the good work and hope Dutch and the family are keeping well.
I don't know what it is with you, James, but that English accent that you have always makes it easier even when you're pissed off to understand everything you're saying💯🫡

You know what? I give Tony Kahn a lot of shit for some of his silliness. There’s a lot of times I don’t really like some of the product that he puts on television, but I have to say that I appreciate and respect the man for donating to Dutch. Because I know that Dutch hasn’t agreed with everything Tony has done as well and he’s been honest about that. So for Tony to put his differences aside to help a man who’s done so much for the wrestling industry is really cool. Much respect to you, Tony. That’s a class move.
I was quite impressed with Tony and Chris with their donations to help Dutch. You could criticize their creative ideas for the product, but in he end, helping a fellow person in the wrestling business with their health issues, is a classy move.

@@K-dawg26 It started off as something of term of endearment, by Cornette, back before Dave lost his damn mind; Jim found himself so often talking about something Dave had reported on, that he ended up giving him the nickname “Uncle Dave”. It then morphed from: “Good ol’ Uncle Dave, providing us with all the wrestling news that is fit to print”, to “What the fuck is crazy Uncle Dave blathering about this time!” haha. And the nickname just stuck, & spread online; now even people who don’t listen to- or even like Cornette, refer to Meltzer has Uncle Dave. It’s a funny old world haha.
Meltzer has become a caricature of himself and has torpedoed any credibility he had. He reminds me of the old guys in the box on The Muppet Show. Best wishes to the Mantells
Ridiculous. I am not an AEW fan but I 100% want it to exist and want both companies to flourish. Hell, I'd like TNA to continue to build steam too. More viable companies= more wrestlers get to eat.
Every time Meltzer posts the AEW Dynamite ratings, he always writes that you have to consider who they were up against and therefore the numbers are actually pretty good. EVERY WEEK he is doing this. He got an excuse for the low ratings every week! It is so pathetic!
4 reasons AEW are doing poor ratings. 1, the lack of compelling stories. 2, fans are tired of Jericho and the Bucks. 3, the aew diehards. 4, "Everything is great"
At this point it would be embarrassing if Dave Meltazer WASN'T on AEW's payroll. Dutch is sick and in a hospital bed, but all Dave can think about is to vehemently defend AEW and his god Tony Khan. S/O to all those we were able to donate to Dutch hope he and his wife pull through.
I don't understand why people continue to listen to and subscribe to Dave Meltzer in 2024. Like, its not the 90s anymore. He hasnt been a legitimate source of news for *years*, and others have leapfrogged him in that category (fightful, PW Insider, etc)
Even if he was credible, why would anyone? Paying for spoilers to a TV show in the hope that you look well informed to losers on the internet. I'll never understand it.
Dave Meltzer has little to no journalistic integrity he’d rather be “first” rather than accurate. It’s great to see people in the wrestling community holding him accountable for lies he has gotten away with for decades. AEW would be smart to get rid of him. He went from being a fan of wrestling to thinking his personal opinion is what wrestling should be
So the underlying message from Dave, is that Tony khan and AEW personnel shouldn't have donated to Dutch, because Dutch criticized AEW. Got it, ridiculous!
There’s a difference between some podcasters criticising aew and a family who is struggling to even stay alive due to health issues. All the best to the mantell family.
Just did my first Go Fund Me donation ever for Dutch right now. Without being or sounding malicious, I highly doubt if Metzler was in a similar position, I would feel the need to donate. It's not a handout, or there's some money to help you. It's a genuine thank you, Dutch, for everything you did over the years and sharing that knowledge with us over the last few years.
Regardless of whether I like CM Punk as a Wrestler/Performer or not, which I like him by the way, I will always be thankful for him to help (further) expose and highlight how biased and out of touch Dave Meltzer is. 🙏🙏 Uncle Dave said Cody vs Gunther at Crown Jewel was just another WWE main event, while being good! And he said at least THREE TIMES in different variations, "I don't want to be negative, but!" And when you hear him praise all the same identical acrobatic gymnastic matches in AEW as "one of the best I've EVER seen" every week, how would anyone with a brain will believe him not being totally biased.
@obredaanps3 That doesn't "bother" anyone. What bothers is, his blatant lies and claiming to have no biased but then 10 mins later, usually on the SAME show, his completely biased "journalism" is at full display. He doesn't have the balls to actually admit that.
I do, but only in relation to what the company earns - if a footballer's wages are causing a club to go bankrupt, the person who authorised those wages is worthy of criticism (though I can never fault the player for trying to get everything they can given how precarious their careers can be)

I was today years old when I found out Dave Meltzer is 65 years old. I honestly think at this point in his life, he does not care about anything anymore.
I think Meltzer's problem is PWG was the first time "the boys" publicly accepted him. When the Bucks and Omega moved to AEW, his loyalty to them turned into a need to shout down anyone who DARED say anything negative/critical about AEW. It's turned him from an objectionable reporter to an AEW cheerleader.
I'm not a Vince Russo fan but even he is more accurate than Dave meltzer and he isn't always accurate either and that's bad. Vince Russo at least had a more significant career in WWE than Dave meltzer.
Dave isn't a journalist. He's a joke... Good on Tony for not being petty and stepping up. Congratulations to you for putting up a big chunk of money. You've supported your friend and led by example. I respect that. Most fans and those in the business who donated did it out of respect and empathy. It's something special.
Meltzer is doing a lot of damage to AEW. He is SO defensive of it as a company, that he willingly states that he doesn’t care if wrestlers are over and thus, doesn’t care if people want to watch it. They could have 1 person in the crowd and he’d still be spouting off about how they’re making tv money. WWE was never in danger of going out of business, yet their quality sank for a good many years there, yet he was fine with criticizing that. Why does the average person, who wants to enjoy and tune into something, have to care about how much money their tv deal is worth? Expecting wrestling companies to care about gaining fans and retaining them isn’t ridiculous. The more people tune in, the more enjoyable it can be (look at how WWE crowds have elevated their shows in the past year or so, and how the larger crowds AEW used to have elevated their shows as well). Dave’s unconditional defending of every aspect of AEWs business is a total joke at this point (he even gets mad and talks down at Alvarez when he dares criticize a story beat or something like if AEW doesn’t tell the network they’re going over and the DVR cuts off). You’d think it was his company, not Tony Khans. Which is why it would be nice if Tony could find a way to shed him.
He’s always been this insufferable. The only change is that he cheerleads for a different team turning on the people he used to cheerlead for in the process. The people he used to suck up to are no longer the cool kids he wants to hang out with anymore but he’s never been unbiased. Mainstream wrestling has always been bad to him and whatever the cool Indy company of the day or Japan did was never wrong.
Everyone who watches this, Jim, Nash, Eric and JBL needs to gaslight Meltzer online with spamming of truths till he just gives up and goes offline. Hes lived off the backs of wrestlers by lying for decades.... decades😮
Dave a sucka for that. Even if he feels this way and doesn't like Dutch, why even mention all of this during a difficult time in his life as well as his family?! Show some damn class! The biggest story out of all this is just how moronic the American health care system is. The idea that you have to ask for charity so that you can pay your medical bills is horrific. Dutch is lucky in that he has a following but most Americans don't have that luxury and have to choose between bankruptcy and death. It's horrendous. Land of the free my ass.

I shouldn’t need to continue, but I will. Of the 20 WWE matches, 9 of them are NXT matches. Not a knock on NXT, but it shows how much Unca Dave devalues main roster WWE.

By all accounts Tony Khan is a very nice person, Cornette has also acknowledged this. But he needs to step back and let a pro book his company.

If TK takes running AEW seriously and not running it as a hobby, he, the Bucks and Omega need to distance themselves from Dave Meltzer. Dave Meltzer reporting the joke post about AEW expenses as fact should have been a reason to distance themselves from him. Even Eric Bischoff admitted to making the mistake as an executive of kissing Meltzer’s backside, and how it backfired on him.

Meltzer’s never correct
Has he gotten worse or was he always this insufferable and it's just easier to see now with social media?
He's a pathetic little man who has been slowly unravelling since the terrotitories and WCW died which all but killed his access.
Hes lived off the backs of wrestlers by lying for decades.... decades😮
