Best thign about this game was the fact that you can screw the race and just go off exploring. For a game that's from 22 years ago... that's VERY awesome.
I was about to say the same thing. Fond memories of driving off into the distance, it was cool that they made it so the map became an infinite loop of itself
Wonder how that process went, probably something like: ‘Great Green Racing? no. Bright Blue Racing? nope. Big Blue Racing? Hmm Ah Yes, Big Red Racing! that’s it!’
It's like they are not exactly cel shading, but just using gouraud shading for the vehicles. The landscape has a faint texture on smooth colors near, but far away I see it switches to flat shading. Interesting, like instead of fully texture mapping everything, they did it when it mattered.
I love this game. One of my fav in the past. I spent hours enjoying it. I remember playing 2 players in split window with my brother. What a memories. Thanks 4 sharing this jewel
Man this is so nostalgic for me! I loved this game after getting it when my parents bought an Epson printer. This is one of the reasons I'm still a gamer to this day. Thanks for the memories.
I was in high school in the late 90's and I secretly installed this game on all of our CAD computers. After we were done with our in-class assignments, about 8 of us would all have a LAN racing match. The first time I did it, I got sent to the principal's office for "hacking" the computers 🤣
I did the same in middle school. I’d install games on the network and search around for stuff in DOS where they didn’t have things as restricted and people thought I was a “hacker” and I’m like… no I just know how to use DOS commands haha.
Extremely 90s, that almost collage-style of stereotypes and randomized mish-mashes. Just whatever felt cool at the time. I'm not sure how well those sensibilities have aged, but the gameplay itself is solid for the day. Especially on a DOS polygon engine like that.
Loved this! I'm quite sure you could put the gamedisk in an ordinary CDplayer and listen to all the "magnificent" tracks on the stereo.. Any one else remember?!
I LOVED this game. Even by todays stadards, this game was pretty tough Imo. The graphics were amazing and so was the content. Don't know why it was such an underdog game. Music and visuals were great. I remember playing this game over hours, listening to "Scooter-Endless Summer" =P. I think you could even play it in splitscreen with 2P.
I am.. kind of shocked to realize that this game is already 24 years old.. My gf gave it to me for my bday back then, making this one extra special for me. Nice to see it back again, although like most 3d games.. this one didn't age that well ;)
True. I was considering about recording in 640x480. Menus are still in 320x200 and have slightly different framerate. Since I was using DOSBox internal capture it would had increased work with editing a lot and there were some other issues as well. I don't remember exactly, but possibly it was required to manually switch to high res each time you start a new race. Also, higher resolution modes in this game IMHO didn't add that much to quality of graphics.
Ask "nostalgianerdvideos" how he video record, i'm sure he will help you. When i play "Alone in the dark" dosbox kill my fps, i have better fps on 486 or amd k6-2 (or something) with 2mb S3 video :) then on i5 with dosbox , i remember the video card, but not shure for the CPU, i also have voodoo2, but this kind of games don't use 3Dfx so i play on the s3 . Sorry for my english.
th-cam.com/video/YtOtfMbgJMI/w-d-xo.html You mean this video? It looks like it's running somewhere around 10-15 fps and it's not cropped either. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy watching some of his videos such as the "Amiga story" videos, he did great work on those. Your issues with DOSBox are probably cycle related, try using fixed cycles for example cycles=10000 and see if that helps.
irdk. It might be DOSBox issue, but I haven't seen that happen on any other DOS game. If you check other videos of this game in YT they all have that shaking.

Oh boy. We played this on the network a LOT back in the day. What happened to the commentary, tho? I remember there being some seriously perverted commentary. I also don't seem to remember the eye ruining menus like that either. x_x
I feel like drinking a gallon of turpentine and pissing on a brush fire - my favorite. Commentary could be switched off in the settings, but it is part of what made the game so immersive!

there is a "secret" on the first level with a big hill with a horde drawing on it or something
Finally found this game from when I was growing up. I remember doing exactly that, screwing the race and just exploring. Fun times.
OMG I used to do that. In the water stage, me and my cousin would always pick the hovercarft and when went up the hill as soon as the race started.
Haha yeah I remember I used to go and find sheep in some levels and run 'em over ... good times.
"I feel like drinking a galon of turpetine and pissing on a brushfire. "
"Woah, that aint my belly button.
That aint my finger neither."
Spent an hour this morning trying to remember the name of this game. Brings back memories.
Not bad! I spent 4 years trying to remember and accidentally and randomly ran upon it/recognized it in a dos game compilation video just now, haha
Wonder how that process went, probably something like: ‘Great Green Racing? no.
Bright Blue Racing? nope.
Big Blue Racing? Hmm
Ah Yes, Big Red Racing! that’s it!’
@@Wil_Dsense I just remembered the type of game, but nothing else. For some reason I thought that racing games were never going to top this!
we really need a remaster of this game in cellshaded artstyle
It's like they are not exactly cel shading, but just using gouraud shading for the vehicles.

Impressive physics for a game of that era. Also the free exploring, absolute innovation
I love this game. One of my fav in the past. I spent hours enjoying it. I remember playing 2 players in split window with my brother. What a memories. Thanks 4 sharing this jewel
Finally found it after all these years!
This was the best offroad game at the time
Man this is so nostalgic for me! I loved this game after getting it when my parents bought an Epson printer. This is one of the reasons I'm still a gamer to this day. Thanks for the memories.
How old are you?
@@StanLeeX I'm 33
Ah thanks, I wondered why I had a full version of this game if it came with Epsom printers.
If anything, I recall this game as something FUN.
I only had the trial version of this but I LOOOVED IT.
Yeah me too! I had a cdrom with mixed trial version of games from that era.
One of my favorite racing games of all time.
I was in high school in the late 90's and I secretly installed this game on all of our CAD computers. After we were done with our in-class assignments, about 8 of us would all have a LAN racing match. The first time I did it, I got sent to the principal's office for "hacking" the computers 🤣

A remake of this game would be so awesome!
Love how this had local split-screen co-op and most modern racing games don't.
I'm surprised that these sound clips haven't been mixed into more music! They are classic!
My fucking grandma gifted me this when I was like 10 years old back in 99'. Oh man.
This is one of the games that I most enjoyed playing and recording for my channel. Despite its apparent graphic simplicity, it is really fun.
I don't remember the camera shaking so badly
Same. Might be because of the CRT it was played on back then.
Me neither, but it looks horrible.
It may be because of Dosbox emulator. Someone should try it on real hardware. I have Pentium 1 classic, maybe I'll try it in future.
Same, it's pretty bad
It didn’t!
Extremely 90s, that almost collage-style of stereotypes and randomized mish-mashes. Just whatever felt cool at the time. I'm not sure how well those sensibilities have aged, but the gameplay itself is solid for the day. Especially on a DOS polygon engine like that.
Wow! Memories. I still say checkpoint in that guy's voice to this day.
God I love this game’s atmosphere
The open world element of this game was so cool compared to every other racing game I had played before.
Loved this! I'm quite sure you could put the gamedisk in an ordinary CDplayer and listen to all the "magnificent" tracks on the stereo..
Any one else remember?!

Bought a random pc from wal mart in the later 90s it was Big Red Racing . What a lucky decision
so much nostalgia

I remember this game like it was in Dirt Rally 2.0 graphics.
what's that song from the intro
Interesting. Didn't know about that version with Epson ads everywhere.
Negrostrike my copy of this game came with an epson printer! Did yours?
Increíble que recuerdos!
Juegazo
I feel like drinking a gallon of turpentine and pissing on a bush fire
i think my brain just melted
checkpoint, woohoo! played it with a good friend when it came out
All of us came here to hear that one line. "I feel like drinking a gallon of turpentine and pissing a brush fire."
I know I did
Biggest thing that ages these old games is the draw distance. Fix that and up the res they would look much more modern
this was a very cool game...back when racing games NEVER went off-course this was a lot of fun
totally remember playing the hell out of this game
This Game was Published by Domark, Before Eidos Interactive and Laterly and Today Square-Enix Europe.
Longest intro to a game ever, awesome
this game rules
4:44 Watchmen reference.
I remember the cheat you you do at DOS prompt when loading the game to use any vehicle on any track.
This was such an awesome game.
Longest intro in a DOS game, along with Tex Murphy's Under A Killing Moon.
Me and a buddy of mine played cops and robbers in split screen on the Italy map all the time!
why I remember this game having MUCH higher resolution?
Wow, this is even better than Terep2
that shaking supposed to be "riding the waves" ? holy crap what a dizzy mess.
I swear the gfx were better when I played it :P
Yea, our memories can trick us real good. I couldn't enjoy this game today.
Anyone interested to port this game for iOS?

never remembered how shaky the ingame camera was lol
I love this game, pity they did not do few sequels...at least three....hopefully someone in the future will do....we need such driving games...
A dos game yet I still can't make anything better these days with todays game creators xD
That time you remember the game but not the name of the game. Fear not, TH-cam will recommend you the video with it. One day.
6:07 doom's theme
Why is it so shakey?
i play with 13 years old.old times
Fun game but I cant handle to intense camera shake!
I remember for this game! :D
the game have 640x480 . . . . i think it was with the plus key, it add extra resolution

With his FPS the game is unplayable for me.
why is the screen shaking dos'nt do that on mine ?

really how odd ill get the pc out of the cupboard soon and check
hey! I remember this game!

The game is capped @ 2 different frame speeds. Thats why the screen shakes. None of them is 60 fps... Why the lie right in the title?
640x480 res. was avaliable in this game by pressing + i think
Activating comments in this video game is the closest experience in real life to having schizophrenia.
I use to love mowing down the sheep lol
I love how Minsk is in Russia.
Great game, but why is everything so shaky? Not even the worst offenders on ps1 were this bad.
gives me motion sickness
Tempo bom
Looks like Wipeout...

press plus key and get svga mode
Finally, someone said it
