Having lesser known tracks in NFS Pro street just made sense. Like it wouldnt be really realistic if a small "trackday" event were able to afford a complete weekend of Spa or Silverstone. So having lesser known tracks which wont be that expensive makes sense
Kinda makes me think of URL from Underground, but I can totally see how this would be a fun idea to break up the monotony of the same street races repeating ad nasuaem
@@bearerofsoup I just have my fingers crossed these companies realize that the requiring the rights would be cheap enough to release these games on current consoles
It also helped the way all tracks were shown with the events decorations around, instead of just random tracks connected by the developers, having all tracks sharing an "in world" style really made them fit and feel right.
I doubt they would have the resources to move the people from Baška Voda somewhere else and croatian bureaucracy is awful if you don't have political connections.
Dragon Trail Seaside and Gardens are right next to each other, and there's a modded version available for Assetto Corsa that links the two with a tunnel section, turning it into an endurance layout. It's pretty incredible.
A bit of a neato fact for Prostreet is that the Nevada Highway circuits are almost a 1 for 1 recreation of Watkins Glen. But remade to fit the Nevada highway environment.
The biggest example of that is Superbikes Riding Challenge and other Milestone-made games at the time including Evolution GT and Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo --- Imola, Kyalami, Nurburgring, Philip Island, Sugo and more are all resized and recontextualized... but the track maps look EXACTLY the same as IRL
@@DiegoRuiz1991on Ducati Challenge PSP, there are also tracks that combined several track layouts into one long track. Motodrome for example, on Ducati Challenge, it uses combined tracks from Motegi, Mugello, and Misano.
TOCA 3 had many tracks that aren't normally used for racing games. Bedford Aerodrome, Castle Combe, SMSP, Lausitzring, Oschersleben, Istanbul Park, Queensland Raceway, Adelaide, Sakhir, Norisring, Cadwell Park, Oulton Park, Shanghai, Gateway, Oran Park, Hidden Valley, Symmons Plains, Pukekohe, Perth, Brno and Mondello Park to name quite literally 21!!!
As a Sicilian guy I want to add that the Autodromo di Pergusa was first featured in the GTR series by SimBin being part of the FIA GT Championship calendar in those years (2003-2004). In fact many former members of SimBin then formed Slightly Mad Studios and they carried on many 3D models from the old GTR games to NFS Shift and Shift 2 Unleashed. The version featured in Shift 2 is a slightly modified version of the 3D model originally featured in the GTR series with lowered kerbs, some new trackside objects, different vegetation and revised textures, it even features the wrong (for 2011) old Proserpina chicane that was modified and made it slower in 2005. Other curiosity: from 1962 to 1965 this track hosted a non-championship F1 GP called Mediterranean Grand Prix.
I wish Raceroom Racing Experience would pic the track up, considering Sector 3/KW Studios is what's left of Simbin rn. I still remember the track from GTR2. It was so much fun trying to dodge the tires at the chicane at full speed, or running 2 cars wide into the chicane to see who's gonna chicken out first and hit the brakes.
As a Sicilian guy do you ever go for a drive around bits of the old Targa Florio? I've been to Sicily twice basically to do this....its not an easy challenge!! The roads are missing in places 😢
All hail NFS ProStreet. Ive known Autopolis for years but the INFIELD layout there is something ive never seen anywhere else but NFS. Its only used once in the career in the middle tier an can easily be missed Edit: I believe im talking about Autopolis lakeside mentioned in shift 1. Maybe they had a multi year license and put it in shift aswell after prostreet? Its in the prostreet career with a grip race... but (like ebisu touge layout) it cant be selected in quick race
@@revs7837 you're thinking of the main track and it's alternative shorter layout. I'm talking about an entirely separate layout within the infield behind pitroad
AMS2 really deserves a mention here! I'd say amongst the current racing games it's definitely got the highest number of obscure tracks. Most of them are Brazilian/South American - given the devs are from Brazil - but they also include some other obscure stuff like the Betonschleife or the Cleveland GP 😁 They even have the Caca Bueno - a temporary circuit at Rio de Janeiro's *international airport* that ran for literally only *two* races (it was run to promote the opening of Rio's new official racing track).
@@valutaatoaofunknownelement197 I know right 💀 It's named after Carlos Eduardo Santos Galvão Bueno Filho - yes that's his full name, nickname Caca Bueno.
Honestly, seeing Latin American tracks in the spotlight again (outside of Termas de Río Hondo and Villicum, that are more common in SBK and MotoGP games) really made me feel a bigger sense of respect towards Reiza, the Galvez racetrack making a return after two decades since the last Argentinian GP was unexpected and refreshing at the same time.
I swear that Project Cars 2 is the sequel of Toca Race Driver 3. I get nostalgic memories playing that game like when I was a teenager playing race driver 3.
@@samuelgarrod8327 It kinda does. the last portion leads into a long straightaway. Even if you suffer a bit in the short speed corners, making up a ton of speed on the straightaway can be a lot of time made up. One or two miles per hour can mean a lot of time.
Ruapuna Local here to give some added insight to the use of the track. It currently is part of the Formula Regional Oceania calendar (fka Toyota Racing Series) and does find continued use in National series such as NZ Formula Ford, New Zealand GT86 Series, South Island Endurance Series, and Mazda RX8 Series. The track has hosted drivers such as Lance Stroll, Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson when they partook in the Toyota Racing Series/Formula Regional Oceania on their path up to Formula 1, as the TRS is one of the few European "Winter Series" that pays out solid Super License points for the winners The track on main day-to-day operating is functionally for club days and "test-and-tune" days, but does feature Drift days, a slot on the D1NZ series, as well as a few other more niche local series. It did also feature as part of the Trans-Tasman Trans-Am challenge this year pitting 8 Australian TA2 drivers against 8 New Zealand TA2 drivers. Ruapuna is also respected quite highly by big NZ Motorsport stars, including 3x Supercars Champion and current NASCAR Xfinity Driver Shane van Gisbergen saying it would have been his pick for the Supercars series return to New Zealand. The track itself is wildly out-dated facilities wise however, with very little actual permanent garages.
On the subject of Toca 3, lots of good options there, particularly from the Supercars Series and British touring cars. As well as my favourite weird street circuit, the Norisring. Automobilista also has some good deep cuts, particularly in South America (which, I mean, it has licenses from a couple Brazilian racing series so that makes sense) The Ride series grabbed a few that I think aren't even super-well-known for motorcycle racing. First one has Almeira and Potrero de los Funes, second added Vallelunga and the North West 200, 3 added Casteletto, Franciacorta, Imatra, Macau, Okayama and Billown, 4 added Mosport, VIR, the Utah Motorsports Campus and Dundrod, 5 added Almeria and Ricardo Toro. And now, a partial list of tracks that haven't been in anything major to my knowledge but I'd love to see in something: Motorland Aragon, Kuwait Motor Town, the Slovakia Ring, Barber Motorsport Park, Paul Armagnac, Jarama, the Toronto Indy street circuit (I am from Toronto and therefore biased), Inje Speedium, the Nashville street circuit, Pau, Vila Real, Highlands Motorsport Park, the Townsville street circuit, Calder Park, the Salzburgring, Trois-Rivieres, Mandalika, Arctic Circle, the Gotland Ring, Chang, the St. Petersburg (Florida) street circuit, Navarra, Montjuïc Charade, Pescara, Targa Florio, Bilster Berg
Project CARS 2 had a fantastic set of tracks when it was all said and done with some real unusual gems, the British circuits were always great fun to drive but also having things like Rallycross layouts, the mercedes ice dtiving course, bunch of irl kart courses and the historic tracks were great. The Historic Le Mans layout is certainly and interesting one as most games simply go for the current course and a no chicane version but this iirc was the track was in the 80s
In terms of games that have a bent to the obscure tracks for future topics, one I’d recommend looking into is the European Truck Racing Championship game from 2019. Despite the name, they also got tracks from around the world, so you have tracks like Most and Jarama (both already in this video from their other game appearances) alongside the Autodromo de Buenos Aires, Slovakia Ring, and Winton Motor Raceway (located in Victoria, despite what it says in the game).
Forza Motorsport 4 introducing the 2000s Indianapolis GP layout (as well as the oval Brickyard) stands out to me for some reason. It's a great layout, deceptively difficult even though only a few turns (like A1 Ring). Wide corners allowing different lines for overtaking, the infamous section leading to the oval (but in reverse) and just the overall heritage and legacy of Indy... Including it in Forza 4 (along with many other F1 GP layouts) was a great move IMO.
In my opinion the most overlooked sort of racing circuits in racing games are airport circuits. Apart from Cleveland's inclusion in Automobilista 2 i can't think of any airport track in any modern racing game, which is an absolute shame as late eighties/early nineties DTM, late nineties super touring cars and of course, historic grand prix cars took to the airstrips and taxiways a lot! Airport tracks i'd love to see represented in racing games would be: Diepholz, Lahr, Galeão, Edmonton (pre-2011), Linden Airport, Sebring (pre-1987), Silverstone (pre-1950), Zweibrücken, a return to Meigs Field and just to take a mickey a bit, Zeltweg.
@@Ared-zm4ct In AMS1, they kinda "cheated" with Mendig. It was never used as a race track, but car tv shows and driving safety trainings have been done there :D
"Nobody does fictional tracks better than Gran Turismo" I don't know about that. The original Race Driver Grid has some fantastic fictional street tracks.
Mondello was also a playable track on TOCA: Race car driver 3. It was an eye opening experience attempting to take a 2003 BMW Williams around the tight layout!
The TOCA series and the DTM race driver series had a ton of unique racings Curcuits. One of my all time favourite was Thruxton and Oschersleben. Also the GTR/Race series had some nice oddballs, like Anderstop and more.
@WeebGilroy 'the guy who designed this first corner should be taken into a dark room and beaten about the head' - John Cleland The one thing I know about the track is a quote from a person shitting on said track.
@@aojracing4885 Yep. Including my local track Symmons Plains. Never officially been in any other game as far as I'm aware. Same with Barbagallo, and even Sandown (as far as I'm aware).
If you'd have talked about Race07 this video would be twice as long Curitiba, Puebla, Pau, Anderstorp, Porto, Valencia (Ricardo Tormo) and *Macau* are the main examples of the base game. It's actually beyond me how only the Race games & their successor Raceroom are the only games with Macau officially. Diving into the DLC will exponentially increase that number; Marrakech (2010), Mid-Ohio, Chayka, Falkenbergs Motorbana, Gothenberg, Sturup, Knutstorp, Mantorp, Valer Bånen, Jyllandsringen and Poznan Oschesleben and Okayama also feature as well, not quite as obscure but also def worth mentioning (plus Brno and Istanbul also feature too)
I was at cadwell park last week for a trackday and you physically cannot explain how narrow it is, when being overtaken by other cars you basically have to get on the grass just to have enough space to let them past its crazy, so glad it was included
Prostreet also had the Porsche Racetrack in Leipzig on PSP and as a DLC on the main version. I don't remember seeing this track anywhere else. Also at the end in your small circuit list I saw charade and I'm glad cause that looks like a very interesting layout, France has quite a lot of interesting circuits and one that I don't think I've ever seen in a racing game is Magny Cours, which is weird considering it's one of the most iconic french tracks. A few other tracks that I'd be curious to see in racing games : Val de Vienne and Nogaro in France, Zolder in Belgium, Almeria (the longest layout being 9km which makes it very interesting) and Parcmotor Castelloli (tracks with a crossover, my beloved) for spain, Grobnik in Croatia, ACR in Norway, Ahvenisto and Kimiring in Finland, Chaika in Ukraine (fun fact this one was in an obscure volvo game) and outside of Europe I'd say I'm yet to see an argentinian track in a game, cause there are plenty, like Buenos Aires or La Pedrera. There's also lihpao in taiwan that looks quite interesting. Probably the longest comment I wrote on youtube but that was a good video and I haven't seen many comments recommending some obscure tracks (maybe I'm just blind who knows). Anyway great video
Project Cars 2 also had a lot of rallycross circuits that aren't in many other games, like Loheac and Lydden Hill, as well as Fiorano and Porsche's Leipzig test track. Some more obscure tracks I'd like to see would be US tracks like Brainerd/Donnybrooke, Nelson Ledges, or The Ridge, as well as international tracks like the Phakisa Freeway in South Africa, Cascavel in Brazil, the Palanga street circuit in Lithuania, or Wanneroo in Australia.
They really need to add some more british tracks in Forza and GT, esp tracks like Donnington and Knockhill. I know its no longer there but i would love to see the original Hockenheim layout make an appearance maybe a retro racetracks pack including the original layouts of current circuits like monza etc
A lot of these could be found even earlier in the Toca Race Driver series. TRD3 specially was great in this regard with all the British GT, DTM and V8 supercars calendar
Ascari race circuit was where a portion of the 2007 Jeremy Clarkson DVD Supercar Showdown was filmed, so Top Gear fans would probably know the track from that.
I still remeber a moment from 20 years ago at Oulton Park with bright yellow Peugeot 406. Full 4 wheel lock up as i was trying to slow down to the first right hander after turn 1, short layout. The game was Toca Race Driver the original. Aaahh good memories when the god damn old PC couldn't handle the needs of that game and decided to freeze very often
A few notes... · Willow Springs held official races AFTER 1987 for AMA Superbikes... but hasn't had in the 21st century AFAIK · Ascari holds an annual 24h amateur touring car race · Mondello already showed up in Race Driver 3 · Brno already showed up in Le Mans 24h (PS2/DC/PC game, not PSX/PC one) · Dijon Prenois already showed up in World Touring Cars (ToCA3, the PSX game) · Irwindale is the half-mile oval in WreckFest, it's absurdly obvious and they still dodged having to license it · El Jarama showed up in GP500 and the underrated Super Trucks · Eastern Creek (fuck Sydney) already appeared in many games including Moto Racer 3 and World Tour and all 3 Race Driver games · Outside of Cadwell Park and the truly unknown Mallory Park, every British circuit (I'm including Knockhill) is well-known because of the 3 ToCA games and the 3 Race Driver ones · SUGO appeared in the first 3 WorldSBK ones (the ones published by EA) and many many Japanese videogames such as the underrated Advan Racing · Rouen les Essarts is very well-known for being (incorrectly) included in Grand Prix Legends because the devs didn't want to license and hated that the Bugatti Circuit had hosted the 1967 French GP SOME MORE ACTUALLY OBSCURE REAL TRACKS IN GAMES · The pre-reversal Misano only appeared in the early WorldSBK games, SBK 07 and Ferrari Challenge · The California roval has only appeared in Ferrari Challenge AFAIK · The Miami roval is exclusive to Forza games AFAIK · Vallelunga has only appeared in Race Driver 2 and Milestone-made games · Franciacorta has only appeared in Ride 3 · Miller Motorsports Park (Utah Motorsports Campus) has only appeared in Milestone-made games and not too many · Imatra is exclusive to the later Ride games · The Northwest 200's "Triangle" has only appeared in the later Ride games and 2 out of 3 TT Superbikes games · The Ulster GP's "Dundrod Circuit" has only appeared in the later Ride games and 2 out of 3 TT Superbikes games · Oliver's Mount and Aberdare Park have only appeared in 2 out of 3 TT Superbikes games
Now that you've mentioned it, Advan Racing alone has a bunch of tracks that have never really appeared almost anywhere else like the very boring Tokachi, Mine and Sendai. One track I don't recall ever seeing in a 3D racing game is Central, the other Japanese track with a crossover bridge.
Also I think Istanbul and Jarama being on Race Driver GRID is one package with the 2006 Le Mans Series license they have. Both host the first and the last rounds of the series respectively.
project cars 2 holds to this day my favourite list of race tracks. very many well known race tracks. some more local yet well known race tracks. some manufracturers test tracks and track day tracks. even many cart tracks and street tracks. even 3 lengths of oval racing and a few "scenic routes" for fun. (not looking at pc exclusive huge game as a service sims)
I know it's not a very popular game but as a fan of Automobilista 1 I was expecting some of the amazing and unknown Brazilian tracks present on the game. BTW congrats for the wonderful channel, I don't comment much but I really enjoy your content!
@@ArthurLopes39 Being able to drive and race virtually on the very track that I saw with my own eyes is just a different feeling, especially since it's not a known circuit
Enna-Pergusa was carried over from when Slightly Mad Studios was SimBin Studios and as they had the official license of the FIA GT Championship, the circuit was featured in their games (GTR, GTR2).
I've never though Roflwaffle would discuss today about two of my favorite things, racing circuits and racing games... I love it! You absolutely nailed it here dude, keep it up!
Regarding the segment about the Cadwell lap record, calling a Superkart a kart is like calling a GT3 car a road car. Those things hit 240kph, have aero and are faster over a lap than 80% of all race cars out there. IIRC, the Donington Park Superkart lap record is only 1.5s slower than the GT3 one and it was achieved on the GP layout which favours the power of the GT3s in the last sector.
After first learning of Willow Springs through NFS Prostreet I was super disappointed to learn that the track doesn't actually have all the track side decor IRL
Makes sense given that Ferrari Racing Legends uses the same physics engine as the Shift games so SMS probably had the license to include Rouen in Project Cars as well.
That's actually incorrect, it was actually featured way back in the day in Grand Prix Legends on release, back in 1998, in which it was the stand in for the French GP for that sim (Even though IRL the 1967 race was held at the Le Mans Bugatti Circuit.)
@@Killer-Of-Night I just need to be a smartass now: what actually is incorrect about my statement? I merely said that Project CARS was not the first game to feature the track and said that it appeared in TD: Ferrari Racing Legends before. 🤪
So glad to see Ruapuna mentioned 😁 I live 10 minutes away so it's fun to try to turn up to whatever public events or test sessions are happening. Also is a great place for trackdays.
Thank God it got scanned.. About 1year before I left nz i was watching a couple of cars blast down back straight of pukeoke from the car park, sadly didn't know at time it could be last time Ild see it in person, only to see a month or 2 ago a post on fb of it being destroyed 😢😢😢😢love new Zealand tracks and back roads
I love Ascari, that is one track I hope they bring back. Everytime I bought a new car on GT6, I used to test them by doing a couple of laps at Ascari. Also racing the C63 vs E92 M3 to recreate the top gear episode was always great.
One of the things I liked the most about shift 2 was the extremely aggressive sounds of the engines especially the Dodge Viper’s V10. I loved the sound of that engine roaring down the track.
In AC, we have Magione, Vallelunga & the Trento-Bondone Hillclimb as obscure layouts; Forza has Lime Rock Park which outside of iRacing & Forza is not available anywhere else. GTR2 has the aforementioned in video Enna di Pergusa & Zhuhai circuits as well as Anderstorp in Sweden. Race07 and it's sequels have plenty of unknowns in their ranks. Seriously this video has sequel potential and i'm down for it.
Vallelunga is surprisingly common. Well... at least compared to Magione. It was in the first two TOCA Race Drivers, both of the awful Eutechnyx Ferrari games and the Superstars V8 Games alongside AC and a bunch of motorbike games. But while we are at the Superstars V8 games, I think they have an actually unique entry, Varano.
the classic track dlc for Shift 2 appear before in Test Drive Ferrari Unlimited, also made by SMS in 2011, so it makes sense that having them recreated, offer them as DLC on their "other game "
It may not make the cut for this video, but videogames, specifically the TOCA series introduced me to my all time favourite track, Donington Park, and I get excited whenever I boot up a game and it's included, I wish it would be in more games than it is
I remember a lot of the Pre-GRID Codemasters racing games having more obscure tracks. Dijon-Prenois and Vallelunga Circuit being a couple of my favourites from those.
RaceRoom and the previous KW Studios games have many obscure racetracks included, mainly because the primary focus of those games was World Touring Car racing which in the 2000s and early 2010s visited many different tracks around the world. To be fair they still do, and that's one of the things I like most about the TCR World Tour and the late WTCC and WTCR championships!
As a Detroit native, it's a damn shame Race Driver GRID is the only game that has the F1 street circuit layout, outside of mods for AC. And don't even get me started on Belle Isle.
Thanks to the DTM and V8 Supercars licence, DTM Race Driver 1 - 3 (Toca Race Driver outside of Germany) had some great tracks that are still rarely found in racing games today. The Lausitzring and the famous Norisring in Germany, the Adria Raceway in Italy and tracks such as Oran Park, Barbagello and Sandown in Australia. In Race Pro, I remember Pau and Curitiba.
12:27 The Mondello Park track also would later ended up appeared in few plethora of racing games like Toca Race Driver 3, CarX Drift Racing Online, GT Legends, and through Assetto Corsa unofficially
Great video, there are many videos of obscure cars in games but not too many people talk about tracks. To add to the Prostreet tracks, it had an update (or DLC, don't exactly remember) that added the Porsche Leipzig test track with many layouts. One game with an interesting track list I want to mention is Racing Battle C1 Grand Prix from Genki, which took the TXR series to closed circuits. It has a few known race tracks (Suzuka, Tsukuba, TI Aida) and of course, it being a Genki game, it features the Tokyo C1 and Osaka Route 1 loops with pit lanes added, which is pretty cool. There is one rare track, Nikko Circuit, which is a pretty well known track in the drifting scene, but hasn't appeared in many games. The only other game with that track I can think of is the D1GP game for PS2.
Ah, Leipzig test course. It's on Real Racing 3 as well... And of course tons of Japanese race tracks that deserve mention despite only appearing on Japan-only games: Mine, Sendai, and Tokachi. Special mention in order for the JGTC All-Star Race Motegi Oval track as well which, to describe the track simply, is an oval track but with pylons.
NFS shift, while not necessarily liked by a lot of people, was the game that got me into track racing games in the first place. I had played a number of arcade racers, but the hybrid style of throwing in the simulation elements made me fall in love with the more simulation games.
Raceroom (R3E) really features quite a few obscure tracks like Bilster Berg, Circuit de Charade, Falkenberg Motorbana and Knutstorp Ring to name just a few. Considering R3E is pretty much the successor of the GTR and WTCC/STCC series (or at least what's left of it), it's hardly surprising, since those featured obscure stuff like Enna Pergusa as well. The devs of Simbin, or now Sector3/KW Studios seem to be into obscure stuff in general, since they also feature a few rather obscure racing series.
I remember playing Toca Race Driver 3 on my DS (I still have the cartridge and it still works) and that one also had lots of unique tracks that you mentioned here. The primary focus of the game was DTM and V8 supercars so you have a good amount of tracks where both series drive on. Some interesting tracks to name are Noisring, Lausitzring, Oschersleben, Oran Park and Surfers Paradise.
you definitely missed out on R3E (RaceRoom Racing Experience) with it's many obscure circuits (Most, Bilster Berg, Charade, Falkenberg, Gelleråsen, Knutstorp, Mantorp, Ningbo, Nogaro, Salzburgring, Stowe Circuit, Anderstorp, Slovakyaring, Vålerbanen, Zhejiang and Zhuhai).
Also these Korean racetracks like the Inje Speedium, Everland Speedway and even the Korea International Circuit would have been appeared in many or some racing games and at least Assetto Corsa would always solve the problem at least at this moment.
Great video idea - used to love wondering if a circuit was actually real or not, sometimes to find that game devs have travelled to the middle of nowhere to map out a random track rhat only ever hosts club level racing. My favourite is Project Cars with the "grass routes" domestic circuits, meaning I can play on circuits that I have actually raced in real life
Just about to watch the video, but my vote would go to Rome Night in Gran Turismo 2. It only featured in GT2, but barely even featured in that game, to the extent that you find yourself questioning why it was even made.
Yeah, barring that one singular S License test, essentially no event is held on that track. You can only get it randomly in either the manufacturer events or the Event Generator.
@@WTFHAX93yeah I found it pretty weird that it was used in s license test, like why? You don't ever see the track again, why put it there? Use some other track which has ani relevance in the last batch of license tests
@@WTFHAX93It was such a nice circuit though. It felt so satisfying stringing a lap together in that Alfa DTM (coolest looking DTM car imo). Has to be one of my favourite licenses and car/track combinations.
I'm glad my videos were of help for the NFS part of the video! I've watched a few of your other videos as well (on GT's endurances and standard cars) and I've really enjoyed all of them.
I was so lucky to find Skip Barber Motoraportspark as a Mod for Assetto Corsa same as Circuit de Charade. Im absolutely in love with these tracks because of their elevation changes.
Particularly I really like new different tracks in games, a new location to met and I new track. I remember Mondello Park for the first time on Toca Race Driver 3. Most UK tracks I know from Toca 2 Touring Cars like Oulton Park, Thruxton, Knockhill, Croft and Snetterton.
there was one game, I think a TOCA one, that had my local track, Castle Coombe on it. Possibly the most obscure track to have held an (unofficial) F1 race on it.
The game with the best list of circuits is Grand Prix Legends, literally hundreds of tracks, many historical, many obscure. The original version had '67 Kyalami, Roen, Mosport and Mexico + 8 or so others. '67 Spa is outrageously long. The GPL community added many, many more tracks and has the most comprehensive list of mostly real tracks I've seen.
Mondello Park is present also in GT Legends (2003) from Simbin Enna Pergusa is also present in GTR and GTR2 (2002-2003) by Simbin Also Snetterton, Oulton Park and Knockhill were present in TOCA Touring Car (1997), and Cadwell is present also in RIDE series And Sugo was present in the early Superbike's game by Milestone (1999). And, of course, is present also in RIDE series And Rouen was present in Grand Prix Legends, the only F1 game from Papyrus... and the first one to feaure car of the past (the game was released in 1998, but the season was 1967!). It could seem funny, but the real life 1967 French GP was held at Bugatti Le Mans... and the experiment was NEVER repeated (horrible track at that time for F1). For this reason was replaced by Rouen Another obscure track could be Montlery, in France. It was included in Spirit of Speed (1999)... but I do NOT suggest you to take that game for that track (the game has an original concept, but the execution is awful).
Need for Speed Prostreet probably features the best looking version of Willow Springs thanks to all the trackside decorations. Willow Springs is a great circuit to race on but boring to look at which is why the version from Prostreet is my favourite.
Pro Street did justice to Willow Springs and all its variants, giving the whole surroundings some life (like the rest of the tracks in the game) pretty much turned it into a completely different track.
Mondello Park is my local track. Me and my friends still joke about "remember when this was in NFS for some fucking reason" Although I do like Mondello, the track has a lot of history and although motorsports in Ireland tend to be more public road based (road racing and rallying mainly) it has had its fair share of obscure and unknown race tracks around the years such as Phoenix Park and Kirkistown in NI. Would love to see Mondello be put back in the spotlight like it was during Ireland's Celtic Tiger period where everyone had money to burn on things like race cars. Even driving it on Assetto Corsa you can tell if it was widened with a bit more runoff it could easily host GT racing or even F3.
ProStreet had some OBSCURE tracks. Portland International, Texas World, and Mondello Park. There's also an infield layout at Autopolis that I've never seen anywhere else outside of NFS
I've driven on the rallycross layout irl, nice little circuit with some interesting cars in its museum. It was also on Toca Race Driver 3, as that game recreated British GT among other series.
it more or less already appears, the modern version is disponible on ACC and in AM2 and the old version appears on the first AMS and in GPL. But is a track I found odd to be absent from both iRacing and GT/Forza games.
I can think of only three. Grand Prix Legends (original layout). ToCA Race Driver 2 (post F1 layout with chicane) and Forza Motorsport (current layout).
one of the tracks I have fond memories of is Oran Park from TOCA/DTM Race Driver on PS2. this track is also in iRacing ,but I've only driven briefly on the PS2 game and I loved it
Honestly one of the most obscure tracks he could have mentioned was the canberra street circuit that was only in Toca race driver, that track was a straight demo derby in the first turn
It sure was, the AI didn't know how to handle those Fords and Holdens through turn 1 on lap 1 on that game. Racing on it was tricky, but hot lapping round there? My god, what a lot of fun :) I'd love to see Canberra return, maybe as a location in, say, Grid, with alternate routes as well to add to the variety.
I'm glad you mentioned Circuit Mont-Tremblant ! It's an amazing track and I had the chance to drive it twice. The first corner is a bit scary 😅. It mainly hosts track days and historical race these days.
Wreckfest includes a bunch of non licenced recreations of really obscure tracks. Mostly rallycross tracks like the Brekka Motorbane in Norway, Eurocircuit in the Netherlands or Kaanaa Center in Finland, but also the Vålerbanen road course in Norway. There are also more well known ones, like the Estering.
30:55 Zhuhai also hosted the 6h of Zhuhai, the final round of the ILMC in 2010 and 2011, the short lived championship precursor to the WEC. One curious thing is that Zhuhai was meant to be on the F1 calendar in 1999, but failed to meet FIA standards
I visited Mount Tremblant with my family when we went on holiday to Canada. Didn't even know there was a circuit there until I started seeing some cool cars driving on the roads near the circuit and hearing the sounds of the cars in the distance lapping it. Unfortunately didn't get to visit it as we only had one day there, but it was very cool to find out about the existance of this race track
Oh yea, I remember that I played a street Circuit in ToCA Race Driver 3 called "Avignon", detail: this track is only available at PSP version of game for some reason, files from the track exists in the PC/PS2/XBOX Release versions, but there no track data file. But I never knew of that until 2022. I wish that they adds this for the next GRID game together with more some: Eurospeedway, Istanbul Park, Shanghai Circuit & Monaco.
The list of 'obscure' tracks in DTM/Toca Race Driver 3 was quite long. Lesser known/featured german tracks like Oschersleben, Norisring and the Lausitzring or Aussie tracks like Sandown, Barbagallo, Symmons Plains, Eastern Creek/Sydney, Hidden Valley or Queensland. Other tracks included Snetterton, Oulton Park, Mondello, Brno, Castle Combe and the now shut down tracks of Oran Park and Pukekohe. The most obscure might have been Bedford, a private test circuit owned by former F1 Driver Jonathan Palmer.
i remember a lot of the obscure tracks in the Project Cars games. one of the main reasons i liked to play them so much. i also remember watching The Love Bug and getting to see Willow Springs.
Castle Combe, an obscure track in the UK only half an hour from my house, was featured in TOCA Race Driver 3. Its the only game I've seen it featured in aside from the mod for Assetto Corsa. It used to hold F3 and British GT races until the mid 00s, when the arsehole locals in their new builds complained about the noise and the track got such severe noise restrictions that F3/BGT couldn't return. It does still have one of the most popular club racing scenes in the UK, with its own championships for saloons, hatches, GTs and Formula Ford 1600s.
I was so glad to see someone refer to toca race driver 3, im not sure as to other racing games, but the tracks on that game are pretty rare and are a lot of fun
Indeed, Race Driver 3 had quite a few not mentioned in the video that I think deserve a mention, such as Castle Combe and the Bedford Autodrome in the UK, the Norisring and Lausitzring in Germany and Queensland Raceway and Symmons Plains in Australia to name a few.
Good stuff, you should definitely check out ToCA Race Driver series, especially the third one, there were a bunch of tracks in there I haven't seen in any other game (a lot of austrialian ones for example)
There are some games with great tracks I remember. Automobilista has some great brazilian tracks, my favourites of the lesser known are Velo Città, Goiânia and Cascavel. It also features Snetterton, Cadwell and Oulton Park as part of the british track DLC. RaceRoom has a bunch of swedish tracks like Karlskoga or Falkenberg. Zhejiang and Zhuhai are in there, too. RACE 07 has tracks like the original layout of the Marrakesh Street Circuit as well as the street circuits in Porto and Pau, as they all were part of the WTCC calendar between 2007 and 2010. TOCA 3 (the only part of the series I played) had a lot of great tracks as well: Oran Park, Sandown, Phillip Island, Surfers Paradise, Pukekohe, Mondello Park, once again Snetterton and Oulton Park, but I think my very favourite track was Castle Combe. The only game I know of featuring this track. And TOCA had the Bedford Autodrome, which is more like a test track or trackday facility than used for actual racing.
33:32 Have you tried Automobilista 2? This really has to be the spiritual sequel of Project CARS 2, even improving a few of the weak points of that game (not all tho) and offers an even bigger variety of tracks these days.
@@discinfiltrator_games You're probably right, but I think AMS2 is a nice entry point especially if someone enjoyed Project CARS 2 as it's still more accessible and easier to set up than rf2 or ac for example.
Toca Race Driver 3 introduced me in so many less known tracks as a kid. Surfers Paradise, Pukekohe, Symmons Plains, Barbagallo, Lausitzring, Castle Combe, Oran Park, Sandown, Avignon. What a great game
Christchurch local here. Ruapuna is supposedly included because someone from SLS is from here. The only thing that people might know of it internationally is that it was the home track of Britten Motorcycles.
Did you forget about the whole of the TOCA series? Snetterton, Knockhill... they've been in these games since 1997! I mean, if you really want obscure, how about the street tracks in the PGR games? Or some of the circuits that only appear in F1 games, and therefore only appear in that season? Or that version of the "M25" that appeared in one of the London Racer games? Also we need more appearances of Autrodrom Most and Brno in video games.
Rudskogen in Norway recently-ish got added to iRacing, and it seems to be quite popular. Not F1 certified, but lots of elevation and medium speed flowing corners.
if I had to pick to pick race tracks for my own racing game i would pick: -Ningboo -Symons Plains -Pau-Arnot -Vila Real -Palanga -Moscow E prix circuit -Nashville street circuit and the FIRM and Luanda Autodrome
Cadwell Park is such a fun track to drive, needs to be featured in more games. As for other lesser known circuits, here's three UK tracks that (to my knowledge) haven't featured in a game; Blyton Park, Llandow Circuit, Three Sisters Race Circuit. They're very short, narrow tracks, more suited to karting but good for trackdays or testing.
Having lesser known tracks in NFS Pro street just made sense. Like it wouldnt be really realistic if a small "trackday" event were able to afford a complete weekend of Spa or Silverstone. So having lesser known tracks which wont be that expensive makes sense

A bit of a neato fact for Prostreet is that the Nevada Highway circuits are almost a 1 for 1 recreation of Watkins Glen. But remade to fit the Nevada highway environment.

I really hope Autodromo di Pergusa also included in GT7. Its a very technical track to master in NFS SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED.
Had no idea this track existed! Looked it up, very cool

Its only used once in the career in the middle tier an can easily be missed
Edit: I believe im talking about Autopolis lakeside mentioned in shift 1. Maybe they had a multi year license and put it in shift aswell after prostreet? Its in the prostreet career with a grip race... but (like ebisu touge layout) it cant be selected in quick race
NFS PROSTREET has 28 tracks with 55 different layouts.
Both layouts have been in GT since GT Sport

AMS2 really deserves a mention here! I'd say amongst the current racing games it's definitely got the highest number of obscure tracks.
Most of them are Brazilian/South American - given the devs are from Brazil - but they also include some other obscure stuff like the Betonschleife or the Cleveland GP 😁
They even have the Caca Bueno - a temporary circuit at Rio de Janeiro's *international airport* that ran for literally only *two* races (it was run to promote the opening of Rio's new official racing track).

The track has hosted drivers such as Lance Stroll, Lando Norris, Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson when they partook in the Toyota Racing Series/Formula Regional Oceania on their path up to Formula 1, as the TRS is one of the few European "Winter Series" that pays out solid Super License points for the winners
The track on main day-to-day operating is functionally for club days and "test-and-tune" days, but does feature Drift days, a slot on the D1NZ series, as well as a few other more niche local series.
It's an amazing track so glad it's in a game so I can practice knowing the lines before I actually go out on a track day
@TheWaggazMassacre check it out in rfactor 1, as a mod it's probably more accurate then Project cars version.
Zolder, while not obscure, was included in NFS Shift 2 as a tribute to the NFS GT3 BMW team taking its first victory there. Super cool of true!
You know, the fact that I've never seen an Ascari at Ascari is such a shame.
Ascari Full Track should've also included in PROJECT CARS 2 and 3 as well.
I think top gear did a video on this exact thing lol

On the subject of Toca 3, lots of good options there, particularly from the Supercars Series and British touring cars. As well as my favourite weird street circuit, the Norisring.
Automobilista also has some good deep cuts, particularly in South America (which, I mean, it has licenses from a couple Brazilian racing series so that makes sense)
The Ride series grabbed a few that I think aren't even super-well-known for motorcycle racing.
Galeao is in Automobilista 2 as well ;-)

· Dijon Prenois already showed up in World Touring Cars (ToCA3, the PSX game)
· Irwindale is the half-mile oval in WreckFest, it's absurdly obvious and they still dodged having to license it
· El Jarama showed up in GP500 and the underrated Super Trucks
· Eastern Creek (fuck Sydney) already appeared in many games including Moto Racer 3 and World Tour and all 3 Race Driver games
· Outside of Cadwell Park and the truly unknown Mallory Park, every British circuit (I'm including Knockhill) is well-known because of the 3 ToCA games and the 3 Race Driver ones
· SUGO appeared in the first 3 WorldSBK ones (the ones published by EA) and many many Japanese videogames such as the underrated Advan Racing
· Rouen les Essarts is very well-known for being (incorrectly) included in Grand Prix Legends because the devs didn't want to license and hated that the Bugatti Circuit had hosted the 1967 French GP
SOME MORE ACTUALLY OBSCURE REAL TRACKS IN GAMES
· The pre-reversal Misano only appeared in the early WorldSBK games, SBK 07 and Ferrari Challenge
· The California roval has only appeared in Ferrari Challenge AFAIK
· The Miami roval is exclusive to Forza games AFAIK
· Vallelunga has only appeared in Race Driver 2 and Milestone-made games
· Franciacorta has only appeared in Ride 3
· Miller Motorsports Park (Utah Motorsports Campus) has only appeared in Milestone-made games and not too many
· Imatra is exclusive to the later Ride games
· The Northwest 200's "Triangle" has only appeared in the later Ride games and 2 out of 3 TT Superbikes games
· The Ulster GP's "Dundrod Circuit" has only appeared in the later Ride games and 2 out of 3 TT Superbikes games
· Oliver's Mount and Aberdare Park have only appeared in 2 out of 3 TT Superbikes games

As a random matter of fact, Project CARS was not the first game to feature Rouen. It was in Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends
Makes sense given that Ferrari Racing Legends uses the same physics engine as the Shift games so SMS probably had the license to include Rouen in Project Cars as well.

Lime Rock road course was on Sports Car GT (PC version) and Real Racing 3 does have it as well with all its configurations.
Forza motorsport also has mid ohio now (also presume iracing has it too)
Lime Rock is on rFactor 2 as well.
the classic track dlc for Shift 2 appear before in Test Drive Ferrari Unlimited, also made by SMS in 2011, so it makes sense that having them recreated, offer them as DLC on their "other game
"
It may not make the cut for this video, but videogames, specifically the TOCA series introduced me to my all time favourite track, Donington Park, and I get excited whenever I boot up a game and it's included, I wish it would be in more games than it is
I believe Donington Park appears in Automobilista 1.
@@gameboyadvancedsp6727 It's also in RIDE, which is fun
@@gameboyadvancedsp6727 Also made it to rF2 partially in thanks to the BTCC deal.
And don't even get me started on Belle Isle.
another reason gris rocks
Belle Isle is at least in iRacing, but the old F1 layout is super underrated and looks like tons of fun
@@Exponaut_R-01Belle Isle should've originally included in F1 22 btw.
Belle Isle Park is just... love that track. I wish Indycar would return to that track, its so unique for a street circuit, if you wanna call it that
Belle Isle is a horrible course, it's about as bad as it gets, it's so bad it could work for Formula E
Brno is there, pau. It's one of the best things about raceroom is the obscure tracks
Been to see the Touring Cars at Snetterton a few times, it's a lovely day out and not too far from me! Fun that it's included in Project Cars!
Also these Korean racetracks like the Inje Speedium, Everland Speedway and even the Korea International Circuit would have been appeared in many or some racing games and at least Assetto Corsa would always solve the problem at least at this moment.
It's so unfortunate that KIC held F1 for just a few years. Otherwise it would be more well known.
@@Kikker861 Yeah
Great video idea - used to love wondering if a circuit was actually real or not, sometimes to find that game devs have travelled to the middle of nowhere to map out a random track rhat only ever hosts club level racing.
My favourite is Project Cars with the "grass routes" domestic circuits, meaning I can play on circuits that I have actually raced in real life
Just about to watch the video, but my vote would go to Rome Night in Gran Turismo 2. It only featured in GT2, but barely even featured in that game, to the extent that you find yourself questioning why it was even made.
I *loved* blasting around that track in the DTM Alfa 155.
In GT4 you could use the western end of Suzuka but no events at all used it.
I'm glad my videos were of help for the NFS part of the video! I've watched a few of your other videos as well (on GT's endurances and standard cars) and I've really enjoyed all of them.
As an Spaniard, it felt super special to see Spain getting this much relevance in GT6 when I was a kid. Specially with the Circuito De La Sierra
Metieron circuitos raros chorras en vez de algo como Almería (aparece en los RIDE), Navarra o los 4-5 usados por MotoGp a lo largo de los años
Circuito de la Sierra was also ever used as a special event "Sierra Time Rally". It follows using scoring systems from 1986 OUTRUN arcade game.
It was in Toca Race Driver 3, and I agree, it's a great little circuit. Top Gear used it when they did the cheap Italian supercars challenge as well.
I have 600 tracks in asseto corsa
Mondello Park is present also in GT Legends (2003) from Simbin
Enna Pergusa is also present in GTR and GTR2 (2002-2003) by Simbin
Also Snetterton, Oulton Park and Knockhill were present in TOCA Touring Car (1997), and Cadwell is present also in RIDE series
And Sugo was present in the early Superbike's game by Milestone (1999). And, of course, is present also in RIDE series
And Rouen was present in Grand Prix Legends, the only F1 game from Papyrus... and the first one to feaure car of the past (the game was released in 1998, but the season was 1967!). It could seem funny, but the real life 1967 French GP was held at Bugatti Le Mans... and the experiment was NEVER repeated (horrible track at that time for F1). For this reason was replaced by Rouen
Another obscure track could be Montlery, in France. It was included in Spirit of Speed (1999)... but I do NOT suggest you to take that game for that track (the game has an original concept, but the execution is awful).
Beloved Sugo is quite the exciting sight in ARRC too. Especially in 250 class where there was just brutal banging all around
Ebisu Circuit also.
Almost all the tracks are boring af in person.
Mondello Park is my local track. Me and my friends still joke about "remember when this was in NFS for some fucking reason"
Although I do like Mondello, the track has a lot of history and although motorsports in Ireland tend to be more public road based (road racing and rallying mainly) it has had its fair share of obscure and unknown race tracks around the years such as Phoenix Park and Kirkistown in NI.
Mondello park was also in Toca Race Driver 3
In real life it's an ugly place but a fun circuit to drive.
I've driven on the rallycross layout irl, nice little circuit with some interesting cars in its museum. It was also on Toca Race Driver 3, as that game recreated British GT among other series.
Loved mondello in GT Legends
i honestly wish Kyalami grand prix circuit would appear in more racing games
it more or less already appears, the modern version is disponible on ACC and in AM2 and the old version appears on the first AMS and in GPL. But is a track I found odd to be absent from both iRacing and GT/Forza games.
I can think of only three. Grand Prix Legends (original layout). ToCA Race Driver 2 (post F1 layout with chicane) and Forza Motorsport (current layout).
@@PayasYouListen Automobilsta 2 has the 1970`s and modern version. ACC has had Kyalami for years. Think ACC made it popular again.
one of the tracks I have fond memories of is Oran Park from TOCA/DTM Race Driver on PS2. this track is also in iRacing ,but I've only driven briefly on the PS2 game and I loved it
I adored Oran Park as well. I was so sad when I found out it had been demolished. At least it's on the Toca games and iRacing so it's not forgotten :)
NFS Shift 2 Legends Pack is my favorite DLC of all time. I love to explore and race on old racing tracks
Obscure tracks of Automobilitsa (1&2) deserve an entire video.
One to mention on the domestic UK front in PC2 is the Lydden Hill road course. I can't recall that featuring anywhere else. Very fun little track.
30:18
Rouen also appeared in Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends, which was also by Slightly Mad. A fittingly obscure game.
TOCA Race driver 3 had lots of Australian lesser known tracks, like Barbagallo and Oran Park
Also Mondello Park was featured in Toca Race Driver 3 before NFS Prostreet
i remember a lot of the obscure tracks in the Project Cars games. one of the main reasons i liked to play them so much.
i also remember watching The Love Bug and getting to see Willow Springs.
22:32 Dont forget that track was also in Pro Race Driver (Toca Race Driver) 1. That game had Canberra IIRC too
Good stuff, you should definitely check out ToCA Race Driver series, especially the third one, there were a bunch of tracks in there I haven't seen in any other game (a lot of austrialian ones for example)
All the games in this list are very casual so I doubt they played sims like AMS2
@@discinfiltrator_games You're probably right, but I think AMS2 is a nice entry point especially if someone enjoyed Project CARS 2 as it's still more accessible and easier to set up than rf2 or ac for example.
@@STVGamingOfficial absolutely right. For the record I adore AMS2
AMS1 would qualify as well, as many South-American tracks already debuted there, if not on Game Stock Car :)
09:31, Gran Turismo featured the Ascari circuit, but not the car make, and Forza Motorsport featured the car make, but not the circuit
if I had to pick to pick race tracks for my own racing game i would pick:
-Ningboo
-Symons Plains
-Pau-Arnot
-Vila Real
-Palanga
-Moscow E prix circuit
-Nashville street circuit
and the FIRM
and Luanda Autodrome
ofc palanga needs to be there
Great video! You could also add half of the tracks included in AMS2 lol, since they are all in Brazil and I personally didn't know about most of them.
As a side note, Zhuhai was intended to host a F1 race by the late 90's but it never happened, years later China came up with the Shanghai circuit.
