    As a utep fan, I hope your projection comes true. I think the PAC will target two more on top of the ones you suggest. If the PAC is smart (lol), they'll look to add schools from as many time zones as possible, making it easier to negotiate deals with multiple media outlets. Apple, TBS/TNT, CW, Etc.
    Love your channel and the homework you do. UTEP is also an R1, although nowhere near an academic powerhouse.

      @itsjustme11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. With 16 teams and a nine game schedule you can play three rivals every year and do a home & home with every other conference member in a four year period. Whats the point of being in the same conference if you dont play every team.

    Now that we know that Stanford/Cal/SMU are going to the ACC would love to see your new realigned Pac-12 forecast. Oregon State/Washington State got a sizable war chest from the Pac-12 lawsuit settlement. Looks like they'll be able to cover exit fees and build a best of the G5 conference. Who do you like? For me new Pac-12 looks like this: Oregon State, Washington State, Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Colorado State, Air Force, UNLV, Wyoming, Tulane, Memphis, and Rice. That's the premier G5 football conference, and should be sending its conference champion to the CFP every year. If ACC implodes, bring Stanford and Cal back. Look to add SMU and either New Mexico, UTSA, or Tulsa to get to 16.

    I never thought about SMU and Tulane to the Pac. But if they want to keep a high level academic conference, while also having a decent athletic conference, those two schools make perfect sense. I would've also tried to get the service academies to join the conference. That would be rough for Army and Navy from a travel perspective, but I would love to see them and Air Force in the new look Pac 10 or Pac 12.

    • @reverend_wintondupree
      @reverend_wintondupree ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In addition to the travel, I believe the academies would prefer having their games against one another as nonconference since they can sell those rights separately.
      Not to mention scheduling non conference games may become more difficult now that there has been further consolidation and an expectation that at minimum each conference would go to a 9 game schedule.

    Very good video with well explained information but I think Cal and Stanford will join the Big Ten in the fall of the year or 2024 when more negotiations between the networks and conference happen. I think the reason they’re not coming right now is because they’ve been told to wait until negotiations are finished. They’ve got too many friends amongst college presidents and network executives and are too desirable overall not to be in the Big Ten.
    I also think Apple will give the Big Ten a sweetener of a deal like they have with the MLS with a few football and basketball games involving the West Coast schools streaming/simulcast on Apple TV along with the Big Ten’s exclusive international streaming rights. The clincher is that Apple will cover the half share Oregon, Washington, Cal and Stanford won’t get in this cycle while adding a nice pile of cash to the other sixteen members.
    If this doesn’t happen and the Big 12 ends up getting an Apple deal without Cal and Stanford joining that conference, then I think Cal drops football and goes to the Big West with Stanford going independent in football and joining Cal in the Big West. The PAC 12 is on hospice care and will unfortunately die a shattered remnant of what they once were.

    So here is my question, if the PAC 4 stays together and add these teams you are suggesting who is going to give them a TV deal that would be worth the MWC and AAC teams leaving their respective conferences? I mean Apple is the only outlet that gave the current PAC 9 a tv deal that was woefully low money wise. And then you add in exit fees that the schools from the MWC and AAC would have to pay it's gonna be a tough to keep the PAC 4 afloat. Stanford could easily go independent until the next round of realignment comes along in 5 yrs, the other three PAC schools not so much.
    The way I see it:
    1. The PAC 4 will have to find a TV partner willing to pay them financially that would make it worth while for teams from the AAC and MWC to join them.
    2. The PAC 4 will have to swallow their academia pride and consider the best of the AAC and MWC regardless of their academic status nationally.
    Time is not on the side of the PAC 4 if they want to survive as a conference. I think the AAC and MWC teams that are interested in joining the PAC would happily pay their exit fees to leave their current conference if the TV money it suitable for them. If Kliavkoff could get a deal that would pay the schools 12-15 mil per school I think it would work. But that's gonna be a mighty big get considering he could only get low 20 mils for the current schools.

  • @animenopaawaa
    @animenopaawaa ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm surprised that you don't have these schools in your predictions: Like FIU or Middle Tennessee; or if the Summit League would need to expand schools if the Dakotas somehow would like to go FBS bound one day; or if the WAC would need to expand after its hopes of losing the chance to revive football went down the drain (same with the A-Sun; although the OVC and the Big South would still have some hope).

    • @animenopaawaa
      @animenopaawaa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chandler2 That would make sense. And if they would remain in the Summit/MVFC, and the Summit somehow adds football schools for all sports, would that conference have leverage to potentially add football as a conference sport? I mean it only takes 6 or 7 as the mimimum amount of schools to sponsor FCS football, and with NDSU still in, they would dominate like they had done in the MVFC, leaving the MVC to absorb the MVFC and have it back as a conference sport again. Thoughgs?

    • @reverend_wintondupree
      @reverend_wintondupree ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And in MTSU's case, they didnt bolt with WKU for the MAC, would be surprised if they weren't packaged as part of SBC expansion. And if that occurs Liberty would round out the conference. I don't think AFA wants to be in a power conference, although they do value their regional rivalries. AFA also has a national brand.
      I know Utah State is way behind Utah and BYU, but I think any media partner will want the state of Utah represented in the footprint. New Mexico may also have some valuable as Albuquerque is roughly comparable in size to Louisville.
      If Cal and Stanford depart, Fresno State and San Jose State become shoo-ins.
      I think by 2025 the PAC will look like this:
      Pod 1 - Wash St, Ore St, CSU, USU/AFA
      Pod 2 - UNLV, SDSU, UC, Stanford
      Pod 3 - Tulane, Rice, SMU, Tulsa

      @@vamoscruceros I believe the same about AFA as well but I'm not so sure the new PAC would be considered a power conference even if Stanford and UC stayed. Until the new iteration of the CFP takes place will it then be determined who/what meets the power definition.
      But in these views of the PAC, AFA gets its opportunity to play both to its Texas and California constituents and recruiting network. The only piece truly missing is Florida but having a USF join might be too much of a logistical challenge, even though they just became AAU affiliated.
