    "The History of 'APRONS'
I believe that most children today are unaware of what an apron is. The primary purpose of Mom’s or Grandma’s apron was to safeguard the dress beneath since they only had a few. Additionally, aprons were easier to clean than dresses and used less material. However, they also served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven.
It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.
From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven.
When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids..
And when the weather was cold, she wrapped it around her arms.
Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.
Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron.
From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls.
In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees.
When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.
When dinner was ready, she walked out onto the porch, and waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.
It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes.
Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about aprons.
    REMEMBER:
In the past, mothers and grandmothers would place freshly baked apple pies on the windowsill to cool. Nowadays, their granddaughters set them on the windowsill to defrost.
They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron.
I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love"

The egg salad looks lovely. We don’t have cool whip in the UK, so I would add Heinz salad cream instead.
I’ve always hated egg whites, so my Mum used to add the salad cream & mix it all up in her mixer & that way I couldn’t taste the egg whites.
Just curious, why don’t people in the US put butter on their bread?
I know what you mean about cling film. It’s great but can also be very frustrating.
I can’t believe how tall Boston is now. I remember when he was a little boy.

I tried to like miracle whip, but there was no way I could. It always left an awful aftertaste in my mouth that was not nice. So I had to stock both miracle whip and my beloved Bestfoods mayonnaise and I would have to make two separate egg salad and tuna salad and potato salads just to keep the peace. Thank you for your interesting videos. 🍤🍚🍪🍩🧁🥧😋

AH! My Italian grandma married my Irish grandpa, too! Growing up with both of those traditions was just amazing.
I also love kamut flour. A friend introduced me to it a year or so ago, and it's become a favorite. There is a learning curve to it, and I'm still learning, but we really love it.

  • @steph20204
    @steph20204 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I only cook and bake with Kamut flour. I get it from Khorasan Mills as it is much cheaper than the food nanny. There is a learning curve to using it as its more like bread flour than all purpose. So when a recipe calls for 1C. of all purpose flour I use about 1/4 cup less so 3/4 of a cup, and most recipes come out great. I now weigh my flour instead of using a measuring cup because its more accurate and I have found that 120grams (not ounces) of Kamut flour equals 1C. Of all purpose. You will have to play around with it. But if you keep in mind that its a bit different than all purpose flour you wont be disappointed with the end results. I and my family love it, I make everything from cakes, pizza dough, naan bread, pie crusts and the such with it.

I am a "killer" of aprons just like you:) I divide my aprons into cleaning, cooking and entertaining. Another thing I love to do is when shopping for trinkets in places we travel I buy an apron. Then each time I wear it I think of the place or person I bought it from. We were in Mexico recently and I bought a homemade apron from a woman raising money for her son's college education. I remember that video of you and Boston! My child wasn’t even a thought yet! I can’t believe your kids have grown up so much!!! I miss seeing all the kids! 😢
I like the way you went back a little to the old way of filming. Be happy your children eat so well! My daughter has ADHD, doesn’t eat anything all day, NOTHING! It’s the effect of her med! She barely drinks water, even though she carries around a Stanley dupe all day long!!!!! I worry constantly about her having low blood sugar at school all day. I think this attributes to the moodiness, along with the teen hormones! UGH!!! Please tell me it gets better! I am curious if you think your hyperactivity has gotten better as you have gotten older? I assumed it would improve as she aged but it seems to have gotten worse! I’m sure you understand we can’t give her a stimulant after 12:30 or she will never go to sleep! She can still do 50 hand stands in a row at 9 pm!!! It sounds like a circus is going on in her bedroom! Even giving her medication for sleep, she still wakes up several times at night! We thought when she was a toddler she would out grow it! Well, it’s been 14 years and we still don’t all ever sleep a full night! If she wakes up, you can’t bet I am awake 98% of the time! Most of the time she tries to go back to sleep, but I never can!
It can make for very very stressful mornings!
I know there are a lot worse things than ADHD, but living with it effects the whole family and the teenage years have been cray cray! Please tell me this will improve at some point. I know you can relate for yourself and I know at least one child, everyone gives opinions but I think if you don’t live it everyday you can’t understand! So happy you and the family finally got your new house, I know you were patient for so so long!
Congratulations enjoy with good health and happiness! Any suggestions would be so appreciated! I have missed seeing your parents as well when your MA, use to come and make her sauce!!!

By now you've probably already figured it out. Your oven light turns on via the lightbulb button on the bottom right of the control panel. I have the same oven.

I noticed you have a 'Friends' cookbook. Does it have Monica's bouillabaisse sauce the food critic didn't like? 🙂 I said the same thing when Boston made his appearance ~~ "Dang" & @ 5'9" wow. Do you remember the brand name of your new apron. I ❤ the way it crosses in the back. When you purchase the aprons, are they a soft material? I can only find really stiff ones. You talked about pizza &/or pizza kits. Can you use the frozen Canadian bacon for that? ❤ your videos. I have gotten some good ideas & tried some of your recipes. By the way, our Kroger has thighs & drumsticks for 99 cents a pound. I forget which brand though.

Great inspiration today Kimmy! I watched Jen Ross for years, until her channel changed to travel vlogs only. Unfortunately her dog Winnie is no longer with us. 😢. Not sure exactly what happened but she blew a disk in her back and became paralyzed. Jen took good care of her in that state, but it may have just become too painful for poor Winnie. She was such a good dog mom! And, please do a cookbook video. Have a blessed day!

I love that u use Miracle Whip lol. I use it for canned tuna, salmon, egg salad on sandwiches. I grew up with Miracle Whip not mayo. I find mayo boring lol. We love our egg salad on pumpernickel bread with some Romain lettuce. Soooo good.

Nothing official just knowledge from my mamaw, great mamaw, and great great mamaw. There are different types of apron for different household task. Heavy for kitchen and cooking to protect not just from stains but hot items. Thin or half ones for cleaning around the house. And a midweight for all over things so kitchen and cleaning.
