Martin receiving the short end of the stick in 2013, not giving up, personally and professionally. Ended up taking the nascar world by storm with his run at the 78. And he has a likely unbreakable record. Leading more miles than any driver in history, while fans complained about "boring", that's a hell of an accomplishment.

No he just happened to have a lot of aging and worn out drivers. The schedule is grueling not to mention all the PR stuff you have to do all week. HMS had the same thing a few years ago with Johnson, Jr, and Gordon all close to the same time period. Mid 40s is now when drivers retire because they start 10 or 15 years younger than when they started in the 70s and 80s

I was involved in racing in one form or another since I was 6 years old. I got to 43 and my body was beat up I had no help and I decided I was over it. Kept going to watch races at least 1 or 2 big races a year, whether it was NHRA, IMSA or NASCAR for another 10 years. Tinnitus got so bad the last big race I went to was 2013 spring NASCAR race at Texas. Couldn't hear for 3 days after that, and I was over it. Was trying to watch the duels in 2016 until they went to a commercial break and ran 4 Hillary Clinton adds in a row, when it came up the 5th time, said, I'm over it and turned off the TV. Haven't watched a race since except for 24 hr.s of Le Mans and 24 hr.s of Daytona and Indy 500. I have gotten back to watching what is happening in auto racing with vids like yours Kenny Wallace. But I get the, " I'm over it".

Martin is the first Driver in my Opinion since Jeff Gordon to really out on top. Tony didn't, Jimmie hasn't, Dale Jr didn't, Harvick sadly didn't, heck Mark Martin didn't. Even before Jeff Gordon in my life time to go out on top was your Brother Rusty. I was born in 2000 and have watched Nascar my entire life so seeing a legend like Martin go out on his own terms is a good thing.

I doubt it. Cup drivers now retire in their early and mid 40s because they now start late teens early 20s instead of starting in cup in their late 20s or their 30s and they make WAY more money now. Drivers used to have to race 40 years juat to pay their bills. I remember when Darrell Waltrip was the first driver to win $1 million dollars over the course of a long career. I think it was 1989 and he already had 3 cups and most of his 80 plus wins and it still took him that long to make that much in purse money
