The match up knowledge is so important, I feel like most people, especially at lower ranks are in like a 9 rank band

I'm still watching as I comment but I'm already impressed and educated by this This is good content .I was already aware of you but I'd not been previously aware of PHIDX. You two compliment each other well. The banter is great. I was entertained. I'll definitely check out his content.
I had assumed the Paul was a more experienced player cause he did do some things a totally new player wouldn't.
A big one was that he blocked a get up kick and then tried go punish it with b1,2. So that told me he played T7 and knew get kick ups were unsafe in that game, but wasn't aware that they were safe in this one.
He broke a throw (just 1 of them, but it was a 1+2 and he did break it)
He TRIED to adjust his combos for the wall. They didn't work out, but a new player wouldn't even bother.
There were aigned he had an idea of what he wanted to do, but ultimately got ran over by Victor likely being too new to him.
There's so many factors that play into somebody's rank in Tekken that I honestly just kinda don't pay attention to them most of the time lol
Some people are lower rank because they've got good combos, but bad fundies so they can't land them
Some people are higher rank because they're carried by a gimmicky character or strong, annoying moves
Some people are Azucena
Some people just throw the movelist at you and rank up because they confuse their opponent to death
Some people are low rank in Tekken 8, but they've played a lot of Tekken 7 or other previous Tekken
Some people have varying ranks between consoles and platforms
Some people just know certain characters really well and are able to punish them more effectively
There's just a lot that goes into it. I've legit run into Fujins that have no idea what they're doing and Oranges that play better than the Tekken Gods I fought in T7

Some of these are hard to figure out because if both players were still on the climb to plateau then they aren’t actually playing at a level of the rank they are being viewed at in the replay. Say they caught me playing when I was going through the greens I would not be playing at a green skill level. That’s why
The format is good but you should pick games where people dont have custom health bars, the jun vs king game for exapmple, that specific health bar you unlock at i belive mighty ruler so its very easy to guess

Can also unlock those through the Arcade story so it isn't a dead giveaway but it definitely can be an indicator
Nah I disagree. Because you can unlock those health bars in offline so I honestly wouldn't pay much attention to that detail.

The first fujin video threw everything outta whack lol. But the thing about tekken 8 ranks is that it's so easy to promote and demote that if you're having a good day or if all the opponents you're facing are just unfamiliar with your character then you could make it pretty high in the ranks even if you're just flow charting
This is exactly what i got into tekken for. My friends and i would always play winner gets to fuck your character up and make them lok embarrassing. Genius premise for content and also adding that stake of fucking up the losers fit. Love it.

I managed to only guess the Jun vs King one perfectly. The Jun actually did a pretty advanced combo at 19:46 that no low rank is getting. The standing 4 into ff2 is pretty tight execution wise.

Wow, I was actually pretty accurate on most of these. I think it was because I focused more on the players movement rather than move choice. The only one that really threw me off was the Law/Hworang match. I guessed way way lower on that one.

The king mirror, when you saw the dude eat the alley kicks… telltale sign it was either a green or low yellow rank
Is there a mod to add numbers to rank pictures? I know it shows at the start of the match, but it would be convenient to not have to remember the order.

The rank variance is due to character variance...... I have fought so many tryhard Bryans who make me sweat in the Yellow ranks but then I fight dumb Lars players in Purple who spam the same combos....... I think knowledge checks really carries a lot of characters to high ranks.

@@tylermartin7245 You should be glad, that means there are lots of new players coming to your game. Its inflating people's ranks, because anyone whose played Tekken before has a significant advantage. Be nice to the noobs and teach them, that's how the scene grows.
I'm going to update and guess as I go along. As of writing this very first comment, I have accurately assessed the skill level of the players in the first match. I really did guess Blue Ranks. 😎My clues were that a Throw was broken seriously on reaction, and the way they Sidestepped off the wall to realign, that is a legitimate high level skill. They were performing attacks with intentionality. This doesn't really happen outside of strings in low ranks. Attacks with serious intentionality only occurs at around Red Ranks and onwards. This was clearly a Paul Player who had some experience but wasn't familiar with the Victor Matchup.
1st Match - Guess: Blue Ranks Answer: Blue Ranks
My reasoning for guessing Purple Ranks was because the Jack Player knew how to Mixup after Blocking, that is not a skill that is readily apparent to players who are of a lower skill level. They did a lot of mashing, but I think these players are Purple Ranks for the Jack-8 vs Azucena Match.
2nd Match - Guess: Purple Ranks Answer: Yellow Ranks
Way off 😭Maybe it's harder to guess than I originally thought.
I'm guessing the King Ditto is occuring in Red Ranks due to the level of control they have over their characters, but inability to recognise situations. This looks pretty clearly like Red Ranks to me, but we'll see. 🤔
3rd Match - Guess: Red Ranks Answer: Green Ranks
This shit is *WAY* harder than I thought 😭I got lucky on the first call I guess. But I suppose there was more clear data to expose the Paul and Victor as being high level than in the two Matches right after.
Orange Ranks for Kuma vs Lars. I won't spend the brain power thinking too hard about it.
4th Match - Guess: Orange Ranks Answer: Yellow Ranks
Alright, not too far off, but I wasn't right.
The skill range at a given rank in this game is so wide I have no concept of what a "red rank" (or whatever rank) player plays like at all. The complexity of the game, the fact that points vary on the basis of factors like demotion etc, and the rampant plugging combine for a rank that tells you virtually nothing
idk if you picked it up but the shinru match they literally had the garyu banner so it couldn’t be lower unless they deranked
Whoever found the matches scouted some gold, bravo.

I know they didnt show the names but I agree with PhidX for match 6 I called that sweaty King gameplay as Jesandy immediately. (If i had to guess I would call the Asuka Kingreyjr or someone similar of that level).
I guessed Fujin correctly for the first one because the Paul's punishment in the first match against Victor was optimized and you don't see that in red and below
First match; fujin and sweating with Jin since T7 and usually they're very proficient players.
No way those two were Fujin, no duck punish on Paul strings and not one break on that 1+2, I'm fuming in laughter 😂😂😂

watching it rn and nailing the first one was super easy, i KNEW they were exactly Fujin for a reason, never in teh match Victor pressed 2, it means that he KNOWS his movelist and has enough skill to not give in the primal impulse to mash 2

33:50 I found that low rank reinas are gods at electrics, but their overall offense is lacking hence the raw df2, no ff2, no hell sweeps, no mix, but insane electrics.
the kuma vs lars game lars didnt raw rage art. He probably wanted to press it and was watching the special style. you can see it flash and then lars inputs
My biggest takeaway is there is more then one way to play Tekken and there isn’t a true “right” way.
I'm sooo confused by the levels. Playing in Western Europe. I just made it to Shinryu with Azu (admittedly I don't have many hours in the game about 30). The first 5 matches seemed really bad, all a similar level. One was Ruler! Were these all NA?

As a first-time Tekken player who just broke into red ranks, I was playing along and I did so much better than them and was only not close on one of them.
I guess I empathize a lot more with low rank players like me and so I can get a good read.

I haven’t gone into ranked since hitting late yellows cuz my friends said red is where it gets hard and I wanna hold my 90% winrate. That first clip inspired me to queue up
Don’t worry about the win rate, just play the game. Red isn’t really hard if you understand some basic concepts

I am not surprised at Victor players only knowing the same 3 moves.
This proves that pretty much everyone plays the same. I literally can't tell the difference between an Eliminator and a Tenryu even when I'm playing. Even me personally, I've been using the same mixups the entire time I've been ranking up. Either they make the guess or they don't. Every touch is a 50% combo and you can win an entire round off one attack at the start of any given round. Once you hit the corner it's over.
