Humminbird Helix 10 is AMAZING on the ICE! Unbelievable Speed & Clarity!

- I have been debating since this fall if I should bring the $1,700 Humminbird Helix 10 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G2N on the ice. I am beating my self up for not doing it sooner! This unit is a work horse on the ice, the screen is gigantic, the speed is off the charts and I have my GPS and all my other features I use except for side scan. The clarity is unbelievable! Using Switchfire mode this thing can pickup the smallest Ice jig to the smallest Spike (maggot) sinking to the bottom.

where did you find the bag for it ? i cant find bag ffor my bird 10 which i am planning to use with 360 this winter
This is the bag I use Okeechobee Fats Large from Walmart, I havent seen it back in stock in a while, but measure your helix and start searching Amazon. Just wondering about you comment on weight and dropping down to a 9 or 7. Will you lose some of the separation clarity when you go to a unit with a lower pixel count and slower processor? I think I will look at going with a 10 Amp hour lithium, should give me 6.5 hours at full draw more if I turn back light down which is no problem in the shack.
The separation might be a problem but I am not sure. Its just heavy and I move around a lot especially on new lakes with a 7 amp Battery. If you are in the shanty and you can turn the screen brightness down then you should be fine. The only reason I am using it is because it was on my boat I sold the boat and the guy didnt want the finder.
I am wondering if I could use the side view for ice fishing I think it should be great for searching for fish drill a hole put it in turn it slowly right around and see if there's any fish within the vicinity then move to another hole and repeat
Unfortunately you cannot, side view only works if you are moving in a line. You would have to cut a slot and drag it. I have thought about buying the 360 and putting it on the ice but at $1500 I'm not there yet haha
What did you use for the power cable? Did you buy a separate one for ice fishing and leave the other one connected in your boat?
I used the power cable out of my boat to save the money and it was easy to take out. It's heavy to carry around if you have the 10.
Why is the chart speed so much slower then the helix 7 ice units?
I have a chart speed turned down and I haven't updated it in that video
So after update does it have the ultra speed?

Good vid..but what makes the XI 9 20 the right choice over the XI 9 1521 Humminbird recommends?
Depends on the model. Humminbird does stress that you can damage the unit with the wrong transducer. The XI 9 20 is what humminbird support told me to get

Was that transducer available at the time you purchased and did they discuss that option with you? I purchased the 20 and wondering if I need to exchange it before I use it this weekend. After a little more research, I don't think the XI 9 1521 was compatible at time of your purchase. The software updates made at a later date made it compatible. Looks like cone size is the major difference between the two.

Did you ever look into the advantages of the XI 9 1521. Does your Helix ever get stuck when hole hopping? When I pull up the transducer to go from one hole to the next, it will read 1.9 ft. When put into the water again it will stay there and I need to turn the unit off/on and it will work fine until pulled out of the water again. Also, seems to work fine first 1/2 hr after being left off for a bit, then the scenario repeats. Ever experience this?

Hey there, I just bought the same ice ducer for my helix 9. I find it doesn’t plug in nice and snug. How did you find yours?
Did you buy this one Humminbird XI 9 20 Ice Transducer. They do make one that will hurt the unit.

Are you using the big clip that came with the unit or just plugging it straight in?
@@BendItFishing Just plugging it straight in and its not real snug. I assume you are using the clip then.
Yes I am, I read your first question again. Use the clip with the power cord as well. It's Humminbirds way of a strain relief for all the cables.
