When the show first started, History hadn’t lost all its reputable name yet. But, when the show started, they DID pull the entire concept from History…most notably, the people & their names. In fact, the show was SUPPOSED to only be a mini-series & Ragnar was supposed to go ahead & die. The idea was to make mini-series about many ancient peoples, civilizations, & societies. People just loved it so much, they made an audible on the fly, & changed it to become a longer-running true show, in the same vein as Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad, Peaky Blinders, Boardwalk Empire, Sopranos, & different shows like that…just way further back in history. Lol! (But, when ya think about it, the shows are very similar. Just, instead of being seen as a mafia, biker gang, street razor gang, cartel, or any organized crime group/“family”…they are seen as honorable heroes & conquerors, who take over & rule the people of the lands with a Heart AND Iron Fist (which is bullshit. They were all ruthless killers, & that’s that)…basically, a Drama show filled with sex & murder. Lol! It’s obviously much deeper than that (all the shows. Not just this one). Lol!

I just don’t understand why you’ve said this a FEW times, in a few different replies. You say it as if it separates Bjorn, from the rest, just because “he was a real man”. If they ALL were, how does that separate him from the pack? I’m just confused as to what your point is, in saying Bjorn was a real man & you can visit his gravesite. If they are/were ALL based on REAL people, then why does that make Bjorn any better than them? Because that’s your point, right? “But, Bjorn was actually a REAL person. Although he had seriously lacking paternal instincts, I always rooted for Björn Ironside.
I like how the Ube, Ivar, Sigurd and hvitserk all have 1-2 elements of their father that they go overboard with.
Ube has the desire for peace/farming and exploration.
Hvitserk has the superstition and the weakness to addiction.
Ivar has the brains and the desire to be a great warrior.
Sigurd had the quick wit and the care for others that werent his family.
Then you have Bjorn who has only the positives and none of the weaknesses his dad and some of his brothers have.

Watching Travis Fimmel act is literally a gift every time he's on-screen. He says so much by saying so little and he says even more through his facial expressions and mannerisms. I'd never heard of him before Vikings but he's quickly become one of my favorite actors. There's other characters of course that have their small mannerisms like Floki but nobody says as much with a single look as Ragnar does. I don't know where they found Travis Fimmel but this role was clearly meant for him. Potentially the most convincing actor I've seen, so much better than so many actors in modern cinema.

He United all of Norway against Ivar, and on top of that he was the oldest and most experienced fighter. Everyone tends to like bjorn more than ivar. And why not he was there in the show from the very beginning. He got maximum screen time than other sons and got best character development. But if you really put these things aside and think rationally Ragnar’s true legacy was Ivar. He believed in him the most. And he made the maximum impact in the show in the least amount of time. He was the best strategist.
Considering both of them have same no. Of armies Ivar would take victory any day against bjorn. He made use of his anger intelligently and smartly like how Ragnar said.
But again Bjorn was the bravest man in the whole show. He died a fu**** legend.

Hvitserk: Hvitserk publicly denounced his father in front of his brothers and said that he wants to kill him. There's no mistaking that Hvitserk hates his father for "bringing shame on the family" and "betraying the people". I think Hvitserk was probably let down by Ragnar when he left.

Bjorn was the strongest Ragnarson. Hvitserk was the best warrior of the brothers. The way he fought was most like Ragnar on the battlefield.
Hvitserk got his dads drug addiction

Bjorn got the lust (his many wives), exploration (mediterranean) and agility (fighting)
Ubbe got exploration (NA), humility (not wanting to rule) and desire to do good for his people (fighting Frodo for their peace in England)
Hvitserk got religious affinity (norse pagan-buddhist-christian), opioid addiction (drugs and alcohol), brother bond (Ivar) and guilt (killing lagertha)
Sigurd got the easy goingness (like Ragnar was with the original group basically with all 3), happiness and chill
Ivar got Logic (battle tactics), Rage (constant anger) and corruption (thinking he is god)
