I’ve said this a lot, but I just always appreciate your open-mindedness and sensitivity. You’re right: a lot of people think they know what alcoholism looks like and they don’t. I believe that’s also part of what perpetuates the problem, especially among women. If you think an alcoholic is someone who doesn’t have her life together, etc. (whatever the image is), it can sneak up on you without you even knowing what hit you. Not many people would go out of their way to learn more, in an empathetic way, about alcoholism and drug addiction, etc., not to mention share what they learn in a public forum.
Dr. Dray! I have to say a huge thank you because I just found a picture of myself from 3 years ago. I looked at least 10 years older than I do now (and I’m in my early 20s). My skin was dehydrated, I had so many comedones, and it just… was not looking good! But after following you during the pandemic, my skin has made a complete 180 to the point where I don’t wear makeup most days. And I look younger than my age 🤗🤗 I’m still in shock by the difference. thank you so much!
Same, I can totally relate to this! Hardly wear make up now, just a little concealer around my nose and a touch of mascara. I'm so happy with my skin, all thanks to Dr Dray ☺ 🙌
"Everyone and their mother" in reference to clean beauty 😂👏 another great video. I love your honesty, you crack me up, yet educate so much ! Thank you x
I love that you talk about icthemol. We have used this in our family for years. Yes it smells like tar but is analyzing draw salve for deep splinters, boils and pimples. It os a must have in our world. It cans draw an absess out of a horses hoof.
Loved everything about this. But the book, preach! I'm sober now for 3,5 years and what you described about emotional drinking is so true ! At least for me it was and just wanted to say that it sounds like an amazing book.
Years ago my dermatologist recommended Skinceuticals Physical fusion UV defense and Dermalogica multivitamin power firm for under eye hydration layering (expensive, but lasts forever as I use a little bit before applying concealer to help smooth out the application -- also use it above my lip where lines are forming). I am so glad you are featuring the sunscreen as it is a fantastic product. Love it!! Thanks.
I might check out someone like Shelbizleee who's entire channel is about sustainability. Dr Dray has said she's not big on shampoo bars due to them possibly not rinsing completely out and leaving residue on the scalp.
I struggle with compulsive overeating/disordered eating/emotional eating. I “use” food to numb myself. I belonged to a twelve step recovery program that uses the AA steps applied to food. I was out of town with extended family and definitely a time I needed a meeting. There were no Overeaters Anonymous meetings, so I went to an AA meeting. After I had shared in the meeting, there were a few people (alcoholics) who spoke after and said their eyes were opened and how after becoming sober, they gained a lot of weight. They said the now realized they had replaced their addiction with another substance- food. That’s not unusual. It is not easy and have to really work at honesty.
I’m in recovery and this is me right now! It just is all too much to feel like you’ve given up every damn thing, social life, drinking, people and now I have to restrict my diet! It’s a lonely right of passage until the new life shapes up. Well done with what you’ve done hats off to you xxx
I’m sorry you’re feeling the need to numb yourself. You seem so full of strengths ♥️I specialize in psychology: find a replacement behavior, every time you have an urge to eat food. Forcibly go outside when you have a craving, with an herbal tea in a mug and go for a walk while you drink the whole thing. Go back to your pantry, if you have another craving, go for another walk, and grab another mug full of herbal tea. Force yourself to do this, baby steps. Try it just 1 time for a week. If it’s getting easier, try to replace emotional eating 2 days a day with the herbal tea/ walk remedy. Keep on, you deserve positive life experiences other than food :) See how it goes. The craving does NOT have to equal food. Let nature numb you. Go walking. Herbal tea is powerful on the body- spearmint tea is my favorite. Your cravings are cravings for feel good, not always food. Try a video game, I love the sims 4. Try reconnecting with someone. Get creative and have FUN finding replacement behaviors ♥️♥️🫶🏼take care
Thanhs so much for the Shampoo and Conditioner info. Your hair is super glossy! I was looking for a new Shamppo and Conditioner. LOVE the price. Still... I wish they would bring back the original Herbal Essence shampoo - I would practically wear it for perfume!
I just love these monthly updates because I really like some of the books and movies/shows you recommended. My favourite has to be "An Irish Country Cottage".
Ordinary shampoo does lather really well on me! I use it the same way as any other shampoo. Mix a small amount in an empty bottle, add water, shake well. I do 2 washes with the shampoo/water mix. First wash lather a little, second way more. This way shampoo also last long time since not much is used and diluting it helps to spread it better on the scalp
Drinking: a love story is an amazing memoir. She was an amazing writer. Idk if you know but she passed away at age 42 from lung cancer. So tragic and ironic. Her friend wrote a memoir about their friendship which is very good also. I think it’s called “let’s take the long way home” 😘
I only missed the "get excited guys" lol, I was looking forward to your favorites for like the last 2 weeks for sure Dr Dray! Also I loved your talk about antioxidants and wine and skin cancer, Im starting to see a correlation with lifestyle factors and some folks that I know that have had or have skin cancer, really amazing to see it play out, amazing but remarkably sad. But just more motivation after years at the beach and on the swim team in my youth towards the true value and importance of everything you talk about for prevention, amazing how everything impacts not just the inner health but the outer skin health which is like the most amazing organ in the body, the skin is so amazing. You are a blessing, thank you for sharing your knowledge and spirit in this way, I hope to meet you one day, if you come to Orlando I would love to come meet you!
I purchased the Skinceuticals Physical Fusion SPF and it's magical. I have very dry, mature skin and this is fantastic. It also wears well underneath makeup. Worth every single penny.
what I love about Vanicream shampoo is how well it lathers despite being free and clear. The conditioner is very light and while in the shower it doesn't feel as emollient, when my hair is drying it looks better than it does when I use my heavier conditioner. it is more shiny with less build up. the mommy wine culture is wild... "it's wine o clock" "ros`e all day" etc. the advertising is relentless. and beer breweries are "family friendly." I appreciate them because I like beer with good food, but it's interesting to see so many kids running around because when I was a kid people frowned upon taking children to "beer joints." now kids can sit on bar stools next to their mom and dads.. my uncle told me that when he was a kid, inexpensive wine was "for winos/alcoholics" but now it seems like everyone is drinking modestly priced wine daily. the way he said it was funny, he's very blunt. I do drink so I'm not coming from a teetotalist perspective at all, but I have noticed a shift as the target market isn't about bottle service high end vodka right now.
Hey Dr Dray!! Need another video haul on new Korean/Japanese skin care .. Sunscreen, moisturizers, Cleansers... all the good stuff!! lol thank youuuu *Patiently waiting.
An uncle of mine, by marriage, was an alcoholic. He was also an accountant. He showed up at his job (I once had a summer job there and drove back & forth with him to his job) punctual, in a clean suit, you would never know he had a "problem". The second he got home though, it was like flipping a light switch. It was very sad. Even his wife turned into an alcoholic (one of mom's sisters) and we only found that out recently. It is very insidious!
@yours truly, virtu givenchy He died a number of years ago, not even reaching his 70s. His wife fell down the stairs (all very mysterious) and went into a coma. Big deal in my family. My mom has 9 siblings and his wife was a sister of my moms. Big hoopla in the family, because he was an alcoholic and not her, but she became one after marriage to him. Big divide here; we got angry at him big time. No elderly care facility would take him, because he would pee all over the walls in a drunken stupor (his own living room at home got destroyed). His son, my cousin, is an alcoholic too. His 2 other children, girls, are not.
I’m a man with a big beard and was thinking The Ordinary hair products would work well since they’ll be on my face. I’ve not heard anything good about them until now. NOW I can purchase. Dr Dray says so lol.
Dr Dray I was thinking it would be great if you would consider doing a mascara comparison I too don't wear make up and every mascara I try makes my eyes sting I've given up. Im loving everything else you do thanks for the time and effort you put into your videos.
I loved The Secret Life of the Cruise….video. It was very interesting. I found the laundry especially interesting. It was a video I just couldn’t tear myself away from.
I agree with our assessment of The Ordinary shampoo and conditioner. Was not thrilled with the shampoos consistency. So I decanted it into a bottle with a nozzle, which allowed easier application to the scalp. Works beautifully.
I literally laughed out loud over your comments on The Ordinary shampoo and conditioner. I recently purchased it and absolutely hated it after the first use, for the same reasons you mentioned. I’m now on my third wash and like it better each time. I love the SkinCeuticals sunscreen, btw. I received a bottle with my ferulic acid and didn’t expect to repurchase, but I routinely do. It’s my go to sunscreen for wearing under foundations as it always plays nicely with them all. I know you don’t wear foundation, but I promise finding a sunscreen you can wear under ALL foundations is a super big problem, this one works.
@@luckyDancer100 If you have ever used a low lather shampoo, it’s the same. I have wavy hair and it feels the same as the no poo shampoos that are popular in the curly girl products, if that makes sense
Love all your videos! I just wanted to point out that the reason many of us avoid sulfates in shampoos is because of hair treatments. I get keratin treatments (Brazilian blowout) to my hair every 4 months or so to keep my hair smooth and lessen the frizz. The hair treatment is expensive and you cannot use products with sulfates because it will strip the keratin out of the hair. You also can't submerge hair in chlorine water from a pool or salt water as that removes the keratin as well. Avoiding sulfates has nothing to do with clean beauty or health for many of us:)
I don’t think I could use the Ordinary shampoo. I need a lather of some kind, otherwise I have no idea what I’m actually cleaning lmao. I don’t know why sulfates are now being demonized. I need some foam.
The sensitive skin folks here really need more options for hair products. I just bought the SEEN liters (and subscribed), but I'm losing sleep over the price. I'll have to try.
Love love all your reviews. I can't wait to watch the documentary if I find time. I am half way through reading the.book Dreamland..teen version it is quicker to read. But I love it. So eye opening and sad. I work in pediatric healthcare and boy have things changed for our children!
7:07 "If you are in the throws of something really itchy" | Chemical Free & Stain Free solution: Run affected itchy area under the hottest water you can stand (and not burn yourself) which can be anywhere from 105˚F to 130˚F depending on *duration* which is typically 4-10 seconds. What happens is the histamines that cause itching are released and you'll be itch free for 2-3 hours. I wish someone would have told me about this method decades ago. *IT WORKS*.
The Ordinary bottles would look wonderfully minimalist in some people's bathrooms, but the effect would be lost in mine. Their shampoo & conditioner would have to share the shower caddy with a rubber Creature from the Black Lagoon! Perhaps creatures will evolve/mutate as a result of cruise ship buffet refuse being dumped into the sea? Similar to the Toxic Avenger/Toxic Crusader? 👱♀️❤
Hey Dr. Dray, I was watching a video of a woman saying how she was going to quit coffee because she claimed it affected the color of her face, and some other body issues she read up on, but after she said she'd go into the sun (in the desert) with no sunscreen or anything on... Couldn't help but think of you hahaha! Would also be interesting if you covered more weird myths about certain things and how they affect your skin/body.
I like my shampoo and conditioner to be able to be stored upside down. Then the product is always ready to squirt out. I also keep a hand towel hanging on the shower rod and towel dry my hair before I use conditioner. OH! My Mom needs that key ring! She literally hooks them to her belt loop!
I wish Ordinary would come up with larger sizes for that shampoo/conditioner, or better yet, refills that can be put back in the bottles. Those bottles are really small so you have to buy more frequently and that contributes to more waste/ more damage to the environment. I like the products, too, by the way, but am hesitant to repurchase due to the waste of those small bottles.
Another great video , thanks for sharing your favorites, Dr. Dray. My skin is very sensitive, I'm glad I've found my beloved cleanser from Neutrogena the Ultra gentle creamy cleanser, I use this cleanser also to remove eye makeup... so gentle. The Vanicream products are also my beloved favorite too. My favorite mascara and lash primer are both from the Essence cosmetics 🥰 I really don't think you need to spend alot of money on skincare or cosmetic products, their are affordable gems at the drugstore.
Those shorts make me think of my youth. We used to cut off our old jeans and make shorts with that fringe on the bottom. We have very similar taste in movies and books. I watched that cruise documentary and was very interested because I've been on a couple of cruises.
I just watched the end of a documentary about Australian stand-up comedian Fiona O'Loughlin and her battle with alchoholism, called "Lady O'Loughlin". She has also written a biography. It's very sad indeed for herself and everyone around her, including her five children. It would be very difficult for those (like Fiona) to attempt recovery when their career is one in which they are constantly surrounded by alcohol. 👱♀️❤
Thanks, Dr. Dray. I have purchased several of your favorites videos. I recently have introduced my Mom-in-law to Cerave lotion, referring to your expertise recommendation. 😁
Just throwing this out there....just binged on the Netflix mini series The Queen's Gambit. It is absolutely fascinating and spellbinding. Without giving away too much, it is the journey of a young girl who is a child prodigy in chess, but who also succumbs to addiction as she rises through the world of chess. I have never played chess in my life, nor did I understand it at all, however this mini series pulled me in fast and hard and kept my interest throughout. I thoroughly and absolutely recommend it.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on alcoholism and in particular Mommy wine culture. I got sober in my mid twenties at the end of law school. 15+ years later, I’m a sober Mom of a five year old and - yeah. Luckily I’m out of private practice so I don’t also have to deal with law firm drinking culture which is the toxic masculine equivalent of mon wine culture, but it can still be a lot. That said, I notice that kind of comment/dialogue radiating from moms who don’t have a fully present spouse/partner. (Single moms, of course, should only be so lucky to have time to even think about such things - even if they did, they’d be shamed relentlessly I’m sure).
Is waterproof mascara okay for lashes? Does it cause you to lose lashes? I imagine as long as you use a good makeup remover it’s fine? I use Bioderma micellar water.
She's not a fan of waterproof mascaras. I might check out her videos, top 10 eye makeup mistakes or 10 tips for eye makeup removal. I might also check out videos by eye doctors, Dr. Rupa Wong or Eye School with Dr. D who have videos on waterproof mascara.
Hi Dr. Dray, I always dropped my keys too so I bought a clip & I would just clip them to one of my belt loops on my jeans (or purse)! Love your videos! Take care & be safe 💕💕💕💕
Last got shorts & capris from none other than Lidl, for €7.99 a piece with a decent (YKK) zipper. I mean, the zipper alone is worth that amount of money. And a whole garment for that price. When I see them, I get them! I don't know what model they use for the garments there, but it fits me all wonderfully. Pants. PJs, shirts, you name it, it fits me. And they have an online store now for their "finds", so non-food stuff, which is amazing.
Back in the day, well I guess they still do it, there was a Mac mascara with a small bristle brush that was used especially for doing the bottom lashes. I forget what it's called. LOL!
I came across a fantastic sunscreen "La Roche-Posay 100 spf Anthelios melt in milk sunscreen ". I always have a hard time with sunscreen on my oily face. This stuff melted right into the skin, and was great under makeup. We were in South FL last week. The sun was strong. This cream totally protected me!
Thank you so much. You are a gift sent from God. My knowledge had increased so much and I have only been following for less than a year. Could you please review for us the cream of augustinus bader? It's expensive for sure
Hey Dr Dray, I have been a fan of your TH-cam videos for a few months now and have been struggling with acne since I was 15 (I'm currently 20). I am going on Accutane next September and am ready to take all responsibilities and focus on getting my skin healthy and acne-free. I have tried everything in the last five years, however there is one thing I did not do and came across last week, namely the caveman regimen concept. I don't know whether or not you have heard of this concept but I am really interested if this concept actually works (is it scientifically proven yes or no) or whether or not many people have good experiences regarding this method. I wrote many questions down about the caveman regimen which I am going to ask my dermatologist very soon. Hopefully I have given you good information on this potential new video idea :) Kind regards, Niek Pronk (from the Netherlands so don't mind my English)
I cannot believe that you have dyshidrosis as well! I have it too. It comes and goes but Triamcinolone ointment did clear it up very well and it did not return in 99.9% of areas, I was lucky. I did however suffer for a year because I refused the steroid and wanted to try to heal it naturally with sea salt soaks and lotion. In the end it just spread and looked absolutely horrible. Soak and smear method with triamcinolone fixed it up slowly but surely. I was so scared of tsw that I suffered for a long time and did not trust the research and steroids due to seeing horrible tsw photos on Facebook. It was quite the ordeal
The cruise show looks cool. I loooved a couple of documentaries on pbs, one was about the circus, and the other was called “carrier” about a navy carrier ship.
When I went to Aruba, they said the hotels do the same thing with scrap food. They have a spot on the opposing, less populated side of the island where they dump it. It helps keep the sharks on that side of the island. We got to see the dumping spot on a tour.
I use mine as a second cleanse. I rub it in wait a few minutes and then add water to lather it up and finally wash it off. I want to make the most of the active ingredients and give them time to work. 👱♀️❤
Thank you Dr.Dray, you really make my day🌞! I watched those same movies, enjoyed them both. Aww your recommendations!! They are so on point. Thanks so much🥰 love your channel 🤩
Love utilitarian items like the Overture ring. Thanks! And ick re: the cruise. As someone with Crohn's and three autoimmune diseases, the potential for mishaps like norovirus outbreaks and other stuff. Nope. No thanks.. Interesting take on the movie Drinking: A love story. I have several alcoholics in my family, understanding the mechanism of alcohol and it's ability to numb emotions, I've never understood why part of the 12-steps is making amends with people you've wronged. I understand accepting responsibility for bad behavior and apologizing, that isn't the issue, but what I DO have issue with is forcing someone who is already fragile and adding on to the multitude of emotions they are already struggling to manage by having them confess their wrong doings. Something about that dynamic is abusive and toxic to me, I've never understood why someone would submit themselves to that when they are already wounded and at their most vulnerable. Functional alcoholism isn't what people typically think. Many people show up, work, and take care of their business without anyone knowing. They are good at hiding their addiction.
I found Caroline Knapp's book amazing, read it when it first came out in 90's. You're right that the alcohol culture has actually intensified if anything, it's more normalised than ever before. The worst drug, given availability and the damage it does to every organ and part of the body. I felt such sadness when I found out that Caroline died from cancer some years after achieving sobriety, the random lottery of life......
I’ve said this a lot, but I just always appreciate your open-mindedness and sensitivity. You’re right: a lot of people think they know what alcoholism looks like and they don’t. I believe that’s also part of what perpetuates the problem, especially among women.
But how do you know what you’re cleaning? I feel like I’d miss spots.
@@luckyDancer100 If you have ever used a low lather shampoo, it’s the same. I have wavy hair and it feels the same as the no poo shampoos that are popular in the curly girl products, if that makes sense
My husband and my granddaughter are both having eczema breakouts this spring. It’s always a struggle to find products that work.
Try Waxelene!! It’s a miracle worker. You’ll see a difference almost overnight.
I have to say your skin is like glass. I watch most of your videos and do take note of all your recommendations. Love the shorts too! Happy May.
Love love all your reviews. I can't wait to watch the documentary if I find time. I am half way through reading the.book Dreamland..teen version it is quicker to read. But I love it. So eye opening and sad. I work in pediatric healthcare and boy have things changed for our children!
Hello & Good Morning. Happy Monday, Dr. Dray 🤍😊🌸
Happy Monday

April flew by for me as well. I have been enjoying Piper Berry Kale Protein Cleanser and the moisturizer.
Just watched the Secret Life of the Cruise .. VERY interesting. Thanks for the recommendation.
Thank u! I'm still reading Dreamland. Don't get much time to read so I do it when I can but always love your videos.
I don’t mind 0 lather. Too much lather strips my hair and makes it greasy really quick. I gotta try it..

She does have videos on myths. You could do a search, dr dray myths. Lab Muffin also has myth videos.
Coffee aged me! Haven’t drank any now in 2 months and I’m back to looking and feeling wonderful!! True story
Your videos have become a part of my morning routine ❤️ Quick question, do you have a link for the shorts you showed us today?
Happy Monday Dr Dray!

Ur skin it's so nice!
Those shorts make me think of my youth. We used to cut off our old jeans and make shorts with that fringe on the bottom. We have very similar taste in movies and books. I watched that cruise documentary and was very interested because I've been on a couple of cruises.
Thank you for giving us idea about the product. Thanks for the warning and how the proper use as well.

Excellent video content and concepts? I love that you included "lifestyle"!
Thanks, Dr. Dray. I have purchased several of your favorites videos. I recently have introduced my Mom-in-law to Cerave lotion, referring to your expertise recommendation. 😁
Thank you for all you do on your channel.
I'm.reading The Silent History and enjoying it!
Love, love my key ring bracelet!!
I have been using a steel bangle as a keychain ever since I started driving for this specific purpose. :)
I might try that Ordinary shampoo because I get ridiculously mad at the heavy sudsing that comes with most shampoos lol
Thank you for the movie picks, I added to my Prime watchlist.
Happy Monday!! Thank you for sharing
Can you do a video on Vaseline and products with petroleum jelly in them? I believe paw paw cream has it in it?
Is waterproof mascara okay for lashes? Does it cause you to lose lashes? I imagine as long as you use a good makeup remover it’s fine? I use Bioderma micellar water.
She's not a fan of waterproof mascaras. I might check out her videos, top 10 eye makeup mistakes or 10 tips for eye makeup removal. I might also check out videos by eye doctors, Dr. Rupa Wong or Eye School with Dr. D who have videos on waterproof mascara.
@@db-gb5xi ouuu good to know. Thank you!
Definitely getting the shorts! Will watch the cruise documentary too!!Thanks!

What about The Ordinary hair serum? I am really excited to try it, is there a review on it?
She's no doctor but Abbey Yung has reviewed all of the ordinary hair products including the serum. I don't think Dr Dray has reviewed it yet.
Thank you so much dear Doctor Dray as always.🙏💐❤️
Hi Doc! Thanks for the video. Can you make a video on the best or the favorite water resistant sunscreens?
Hope you had a great April! This month completely dragged on. I’ve been sharing your videos with my friends and family for skincare advice.
Thank you so much 😊
Thank you so much.
Hopefully I have given you good information on this potential new video idea :)
Kind regards,
Niek Pronk (from the Netherlands so don't mind my English)
Can you please do a quick video about if the vanquish lazer for localized fat reduction is actually affective. Let me know if it’s worth the money.
When I went to Aruba, they said the hotels do the same thing with scrap food. They have a spot on the opposing, less populated side of the island where they dump it. It helps keep the sharks on that side of the island. We got to see the dumping spot on a tour.
And the watery waste is used to water the Golf courses, hotel lawns, etc. There are signs telling people to stay off the lawn until completely dry. 😬
Hey Dr Dray! Should I wet my face first or or not when applying a salicylic acid cleanser? Can I lather it to dry skin?
Yes, foaming cleansers should be applied on damp/wet skin.
I use mine as a second cleanse. I rub it in wait a few minutes and then add water to lather it up and finally wash it off. I want to make the most of the active ingredients and give them time to work.

Thank you Dr.Dray, you really make my day🌞! I watched those same movies, enjoyed them both. Aww your recommendations!! They are so on point. Thanks so much🥰 love your channel 🤩
I returned both the ordinary shampoo and conditioner I did not like it and I used it 4 times.
I just love your videos so much!!! And I totally agree with the mommy wine culture, it’s so part of American culture and it’s very dangerous
The Flight Attendant on HBO Max/Hulu is very similar to the woman in the book you read!
