- Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the firm is speeding up plans to launch less-expensive cars, aiming to start production as soon as this year. The move is a bid to revive sagging demand for electric vehicles following another disappointing quarter. Bloomberg's Craig Trudell reports.

Yes, Dogecoin, dog coins rose to $0.65, but then Musk abandoned them, and the coins crashed.
We’ll see if they deliver on cheaper EVs. Personally I am skeptical. The BYD factor will be a serious competitive force.
Cheaper will mean $30 to $35k and might be new base Model 3/Y models and then a new smaller car following at $30k. There will never be a $25k car, that was years ago and inflation has destroyed that idea.
The problem with cheaper versions of existing cars is that no one will want to buy the "upscale" version any longer.

Depends. If they say make the Long Range price the same as the RWD now and then bring in an entry level RWD cheaper, with say cloth seats and a detuned engine they may well get a lot of demand. I’d love a Model Y here in the UK but even the RWD is over $50k here.
They fired 2,700 employees and they also decided to pay 1 employee about 53B what a way to save cost.
But that's not all, the stock price went up by 10% after the news of firing. That means that many people/investors are happy when a lot of employees are getting fired.
Cheaper model means less range and cheaper build.

RIP to the shorts. They're probably right in the medium to long term but a tweet about robo taxis or cheaper cards and their puts become worthless.
He says this only after the analyst frowned on his prioritization for robo taxis a few days ago. In other words, he's just making it up as he goes to hold up the stock price. In the real world... we call this a scam.
I believe Elon always wanted to maintain Tesla's premium status. He should have launched a new sister brand that offer cheaper cars, this will leave Tesla's brand name untouched and allow the new company to operate and compete solely within the economy bracket.
The consumer will purchase electric vehicles at the right price, using the correct marketing methods, with the ability to purchase online to avoid dealerships.
The way I took it was that Tesla was looking to get out of the auto business entirely. They are just hoping to buy a little more time until the robot is ready and energy storage takes off, at which point they won't need the auto business to stay afloat. They'll instead focus on selling others in the auto industry stuff like FSD licenses, supercharger licenses, etc. Tesla has completely lost the game against legacy auto when it comes to building cars. So much for the "price war" and "4D chess" nonsense.

Chinese 🇨🇳 electric cars are *heavily subsidized* by many levels of Chinese government. Some people bought them, threw them away without driving, and still made profits.

Let's not forget when the battery life ends you either junk the car or par another $27,000 for the new battery.....I will stick with Toyota as they don't break.....mine has 300,000 miles and NEVER had an issue minus tire changes, a new battery, oil changes.......
Finally somebody that can read between the bs! There is no new model coming, just updates to existing models to make them cheaper.

Will cheaper model kill sales of more expensive models? And the brand is no longer a luxury brand? All Tesla models look pretty much the same to me, can't tell what model is which, except the weird cybertruck. Cybertruck took more than 4 years, missed the promise date. Wonder how much faster this acceleration will be this time. Hope the cheaper model will have a new beautiful design, more color choices, not like the refresh model that still looks the same, out-dated, cheap looking.

the grid cannot handle that many ev's. We would have to fire up more coal power plants. So you would essentially be driving a coal powered car, not very progressive.
@pluto8404 well.....Solar and wind could provide a drop in the bucket!! Look what Cina did in Myanmar to get the EV battery minerals......they removed entire mountains, polluted the land and rivers and had the military hunta kill all who protested...I know I saw it!! I was there the year they first opened up Myanmar, 10+ years ago. It's disgusting!!!!!
