  • When most gamers think of Soviet forces in WWII, there's one thing that comes to mind: lots, and lots of infantry. Now, that needn't always be the base, but for games like Bolt Action or Chain of Command, having extra bodies to throw on the table doesn't hurt! Options are always a good thing. So whether you're looking to paint reinforcements as quickly as possible or want to surprise a gaming buddy with an unexpected new army, one-coat paints like Contrast, Xpress, and Speedpaints to the rescue!
Check out Tale of Painters' remarkable comparison of almost all the one-coat paints on the market right now: taleofpainters...

    PAINTS USED:
    PRIMERS: Wraithbone (Citadel Primer Spray)
    CITADEL:
    Guilliman Flesh (Contrast)
    Aggaros Dunes (Contrast)
    Gryph-Charger Grey (Contrast)
    Black Legion (Contrast)
    ARMY PAINTER:
    Brownish Decay (Speedpaint)
    Strong Tone (Wash)
    VALLEJO:
    Battledress Brown (Xpress)
    Mahogany (Xpress)
    Bag of Bones (Xpress)
    Plague Green (Xpress)
    Wasteland Brown (Xpress)
Camo Olive Green 894 (Model Color Line)
    BASING:
Apply a layer of PVA then sand, and once it's dry drench with a dark brown paint - I've used a craft paint from Müller here, for your bases it doesn't matter all that much. Drybrush with something like Vallejo Dark Sand, then apply patches of PVA and static grass. Finish with a couple of tufts, I've used Mountain Tufts from Army Painter.

The older PSC minis are...rough, and you're right. They were absolutely sculpted at 15mm or 20mm and scaled up and down (as they're the same poses in...15, 20, and 28mm). It is worth pointing out...Vallejo Hobby Colour sprays are excellent and they do indeed have a Soviet Uniform spray can...so...another dead easy way to get started. I have hundreds of 15mm Soviets for Battlegroup and they all started with that spray!

This could not have come at a better time! I got a bunch of Soviet infantry to rush through in time for a 3E day and I found that there was not a speed paint color I liked enough for their uniforms. Thanks for this video! Brownish Decay was my favorite one and saves a lot of time from the conventional layer approach I take.

Bojemoi! Those came out great. I recall Comrade Kruschev telling me (over tea and cabbage donuts) "The Boss likes a good hunting story. And painted miniatures. Unpainted go to the gulag..." Anyway, fine work once again. Cheers!

Awesome! I know I’ve requested this before. I used citadel paints on mine because army painter and xpress weren’t out yet. They all look nice.

It feels like that wasn't too long ago, and then I see how long Speedpaints have actually been out... goodness, time flies.

Nice one! I'm surprised by how good those PSC models look, given they're upscaled from 15mm. The power of a good paint job!

Yeah, they're not *fantastic* miniatures, but they're cheap and really fast to assemble. Put enough of them on the table and I don't think you'd notice some of the blurred edges and strange proportions!

Just when we thought this series was gone, he returned when we needed him most.
According to warlord we'll be getting new plastic 28mm Soviets soon. This will come in handy!
