I still get a giggle out of triads with six paints, even knowing full well what's meant by it! 😜 But they're an absolutely brilliant tool for folks looking to demystify some of the process in picking the 'right' highlight colours!
The fact you are showing your "happy accidents" and how to go about changing them is the real Value for me. Great looking dragon! My DND Balor project taught me the value/fun of making my own washes for the membrane bits - and just go with flow, as it were 😃
Great looking dragon. Really big miniatures are hard to paint and challenge our skill set. Unlike me you didn’t stop half way through and have a sulk and hide the miniature away in the box of shame for 10 years. 👍🏻
A mere ten years hiding away?! That is a great line. I’m WAY over ten years concealing away my shames in perhaps half a dozen boxes. I’ve moved them half a dozen times too. You must be much more devoted than I am, but you still captured how I sometimes feel with your comment. ❤❤❤
I had been looking forward to seeing you paint a dragon. It sorta completes the set of "big" things with tanks being the big thing for modern themes and mechs for sci fi.
I still like it. Some great techniques and some things that I am going to put into practice myself. I bought a 3d file a few weeks ago....I am going to print it out now....what great timing. Thanks for the tips.
I am addicted to your channel. I've re-watched several of your videos many times and always learn some new tidbit of information each time. I am really impressed on how you will tackle certain projects, like this dragon, and "learn on the job" making mistakes, and showing how to correct them. I think it's that honesty that sets your "how to" videos way above the others on TH-cam. Your video on painting the Age of Sigmar Freeguild Steelhelm miniature was so inspiring I went out and purchased the Spearhead set and am gleefully building and painting the miniatures. I always look forward to your next video 🙂
Looks great! I think the claw & teeth colors might be better off matching the two elements. I always will paint stuff to a tabletop standard if I'm not sure if I'll like the color scheme. Very rarely will I go back to restart it over just working on the color scheme to see how to work with it.
He looks pretty damn good, would be perfect for d&d :D I think one thing on the wings could have been to feather out the contrast you applied later :D It's one of the only techniques I kinda know that I try to use more regularly :D Wash the brush and go across the line between where it is applied and where it isn't .:D But would be such a darn fine boss to have on the table on a night with tabletop friends. :D
Great video as usual. I'd love to see how you'd deal with a black dragon, I've got one sitting in my pile of shame that's been guilt tripping me for ages.
I think it looks great even though your not as happy with it as you might have liked. Wings like that are deceptively hard to paint because its such a large surface area with not that much going on in it. I find it makes your paint a lot more prone to pooling and doing strange surface tension things that I don't know how to describe. I tend to favour stippling when I paint dragon wings. I think the texture it gives you works quite well for the leathery look. And it overcomes some of the issues like paint pooling in strange places you don't want.
Cheers! I'm happy enough with the result for the work I put in, I think is probably the better way to put it; I can see a few ways where I might have done a better job, but given the self-inflicted time constraint, the finish is alright. Still, painting the membranes with acrylics rather than trying to rush the job would have worked way better!
Would you consider doing a new Cadian guardsman video? Given the new marine juice replacement and the fanatic line being the go to im curious which colors youd choose for certain parts and if youd still use some vallejo colors.
Strangely enough, you're not the only person to ask me that. He's actually incredibly well-balanced - the weight on him sits near dead-center, and I didn't have him wobble even when pushing him around the desk applying stuff to the wings. I'm surprised, too.
I love the use of the Yellow Flexible Colour Triads in this one!

Turned very well. Sometimes we learn just as much from our mistakes as we do our success. Great video.
This was great. Really like the peachy flesh/medium on the wings!

Thank you , Troy .

Wow I think it's cool nice to see I'm not the only one who second guesses his work
Yeah, it definitely gets to everyone at some point or other! Nobody's immune.
Looks great, and I like the treasure pile a lot. Would be cool to see you do more monsters of various kinds

I'm going to be painting some Pteraxii here soon. You've given me some good ideas on how I'm going to do their wings. Thanks

bravo ! I deeply respect the perseverance through the process ! And for a nice result !
Thank you very much!

Thanks Master Troy.
Nice painting 🥰🥰💖💖
This is a Dungeons & Lasers model. Painted this one up a while ago. Enjoyed it but highlighting all the scales was a real pain.
I've been tackling some bigger models for use in The Doomed as horrors. I'm always nervous when painting bigger models.

Me: been thinking about getting a huge ass 3d printed dragon just for the shake of painting it
Sonic Sledgehammer: Got you covered fam

Yay, fantasy stuff!
Mmm nice 😊
How stable is that big boy? That base looks *tiny* for a mini that big.

Epic battles Romans when and please ?!
Is it possible to get the dragon without the full paint set?
Yep! Check out the link in the description. ✌
