Michelin-Starred Ramen in Tokyo for $8 - no reservations

- A visit to Nakiryu (1 Star Michelin) in Tokyo to have Japanese Ramen and some side dishes, namely Tantanmen, Sanramen, Yodare Dori and Shrimp Wantan. The restaurant doesn't accept reservations so it is almost guaranteed that you get a seat as a walk-in customer - unless you pass out in the heat or give up while waiting in line - in Tokyo there are only three Michelin starred Ramen restaurants.
Restaurant name: Nakiryu
Costs: 3900 Yen / 27 USD (2 people)
If you want to eat here then go during dinner time and arrive about 30 minutes early. You're pretty much guaranteed to be in the first round of orders if you do that. I've been to Nakiryu 3 times. Changed my life and blew every other ramen I've eaten out of the water when I lived in Japan for 4 years. They're known for their Tantanmen but frankly the Shoyu ramen is better in my opinion. However, I went again after COVID and their remodel and when I went it was...different. It looks the same but the quality just wasn't what it used to be. Still a great bowl, but I ended up finding a better place I went to more often in Akasaka. Still haven't tried Ginza Hachigou or Tsuta though. I will when I go there again on vacation though.
Interesting review. Would you mind sharing the name of that other ramen placenin Akasaka?
@@javierguerrero3196 yes
Thanks for sharing, very informative.
great tip, i tried 3 times during lunch and abandoned everytime.
would love to know the asakasa spot. is it agodashimbased by any chance?
Is IPPUDO good?
The most quiet kitchen I’ve ever “heard” - sounds delicious!
They got their star removed in the latest edition of the Michelin Guide. I don't think there's any Michelin starred ramen places anymore.
So satisfying to watch ❤
"I am so happy to have discovered your channel, it's amazing and thank you so much for all these wonderful recipes, I have benefited greatly from them.🌺👍🥰
Thank you for your excellent videos!
This is not only the best ramen I have ever eaten. It is the best thing EVER I have eaten. My jaw muscles were shaking because of how incredibly delicious the ramen was. I was in heaven
I'm just fascinated that a Ramen in this restaurant is cheaper than Ramen in the restaurant here in my city of Brno, Czech Republic which I would assume is far behind the quality of this restaurant in Tokyo.
@@krayxeezthe price of Michelin star ramen in Tokyo is cheaper than the regular ramen here in Canada. After Covid the average price for ramen is about $16-$19 Canadian. It’s stupid expensive. A lot of people have stopped going because of the inflation and restaurant owners increased the price out of proportion.
@@louisn9084 it’s hilarious. They simply care about the money
How early do I need to be in line? thx
@@Qewlie I was there 1.15 hours in advance. I think 1 hour in advance is also fine. When the shop opened we immediately got seated.
All the foods are very clean, beautiful and decoration.
The reason why is cheap is because the standard of food in Japanese is insanely high regardless if it has a Michelin star or not.
i've been here during winter, 0 degrees and queue for like an hour. it's very worth the wait, amazing tantanmen.
I can deal with -20 degrees, 35C + humidity is a different story.
Those two work in perfect synchronicity.
Amazing to watch; wonderful video.
I've been here but it took me two attempts. First time in 2017 we came for lunch and they were renovating so we walked less than a mile to the other Michelin-Starred Ramen House, Tsuta. Came back to Japan in 2019 and we came about 45 mins before opening, and we were the first ones inside! It was of course amazing. I don't remember that fancy ordering machine so that must have been added after our visit.
Wow. Another great ramen store. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉. Blessings from Texas,USA. 👍😊❤
Goodness, what a queue.
I been there. And I couldn't tell how amazing it was. Like it was great ramen, but if no one would have told me they have Michelin, I wouldn't have known. So I assume it was so good, I didn't have enough culinary knowledge to comprehend how amazing it was.
it probably because chef's in asia don't open a restaurant only for getting a michellin star like in Europe. If they got noticed by michelin then thanks, but they are more intuitive about the common people's taste and in Asia I tell you, there's little to no tolerance if your food tastes bad. They won't file a complaint or review, they just won't come to you. "Customers talk by their feet" as the saying goes
It looks delicious.
Thank you, Aden. The Standard in cooking in Japan is mountain high above anything in this world. I love your videos. Sorry for my English.
Italians is getting triggered lol
I highly doubt Italians put in more time, effort and quality into their food than the Japanese lol@@kenfern2259
Waited almost three hours to eat here pre-COVID. Was worth the wait
Very impressive and probably alot more tasty, thanks for posting, cheers...✌️
Alot isn’t a word.
@@YozhiMitsutheir is no wei you get alot of pussi
You have no idea how much your videos help me Aden, I'm a very anxious person and watching videos like yours helps me relax and makes me feel at peace for the duration of the videos. I appreciate you. 😌
how about having discipline instead of watching you tube videos
I've tried multiple things in my life to help me calm my anxietiy and watching TH-cam was the only thing that helped with that but I've cut my watch times by just watching videos 2 or 3 times a week. You know, like you said discipline. 👍@@muzk8887
@@muzk8887 how about you discipline yourself not to needlessly harass people in comment sections
kitchen is hypnotizing in their rhythm
乾淨俐落的廚房,很專業。
Wow I could taste that through the screen!
Incredible value
Magnifique ✌😙🥢!
Aden, you find one tasty gem after another.
I still dream of this ramen from 6 years ago. Went back twice in a 3 day span in Tokyo :)) 2 hours waiting 20 mins bliss
fantastic
Dan dan noodles the taste is really good. Noddle texture is my liking. Presentation is decent. It was 2.5 hours I spent for a seat last November. I won‘t do it again.
It looks delicious
My favourite ramen ever
Been there. 6 hours in the queue. Totaly worth it!
I went in a similar place in Tokio, I remember the most spicy dressing was called Danger
厨房から伝わって来る「気迫」の様なモノが来店している人の味覚を研ぎ澄ましている様に思えます😊
I was there last October ❤!!
8 bucks?! What a steal
Front row! Beast mode!
It's been a while since I've went there, but at least I now know they didn't change the queuing procedure. Also, weirdly it seems like it's more westernized now, based on my rather poor memories a few years back, it felt like a traditional ramen shop, but way just more popular. I'll definitely hit this place up when I'm back there next month.
Wearing the Kangol. Nice touch.
Tutto adorabile è invogliante ❤❤!!
A parte le mascherine
Paradise…!
Great ramen! will visit for sure.
It is not rated Michelin one start though. It is awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand, which means outstanding with affordable price, but not good enough to be one star.
Aden, очень хочу попробовать Рамэн, но увы, он из утиных яиц. Это правда?
Looks very delicious (almost tempted) but I don't have the patience to queue for an hour......
You can tell the raman is going to be slapass because of the way the broth looks
I am so hungry after watching this that I am about to head to the airport and jump on a flight to NRT.
If you see a queue like that, it means the restaurant is doing something right.
Props to you for trying it out and showed us these beautiful dishes.
No, this an absolutely wrong statement. People in Japan will line up for the most bang average stuff sometimes. I swear Japanese people LOVE queueing. They see a line and just go line up too because the place MUST be good if people line up for it right?
Wrong. If this were true, it would mean Ichiran is great. Which it isn't.
@@VanillaCoke1956 thanks for your insight. So basically Japanese are more conforming to people around them?
@@B-Man-69 I mean that's a given. You should always do your own research. In my experience, it's not worth lining up for restaurants in Japan because I've done it before and while the food at those places was good, I never thought the difference between that place and a random one without a queue justified the waiting time.
the reason why they line up is because of channels like this and silly star ratings. you need to think more about things before you come to conclusions. there is some goodness to this place but you will come to realize the truth as you get older or time passes.

What marvelous tall bowls.
Holy crap. That ajitama is cured all the way through. Thats gotta be at least a 3 day cure.
Das sieht richtig gut aus , Sterneküche für sehr wenig Geld das gibt es nur dort auf der Welt . Tolles Konzept. 👍🏻☀️
cuisine was masterpiece
cameraman though😂 6:37
Nice 👍
In Japan, you can eat Michelin-grade food at this price, but how much does it cost to eat at a Michelin-starred restaurant in the world? I think the cost of a meal in Japan today is very inexpensive by global standards.
It also doesn't hurt that the dollar buys 142 yen today!
the portions are a lot smaller though and the proteins like meat are skimped. lots of carbs like noodles and rice for fillers.
In Hong Kong you can have a Michelin starred meal for $1.50.
It's not like Michelin is the best thing however, lots of corruption going on in that organization...
@@noeminoemi1350 I guess I would have to order 2 bowls then when I visit one day ..
Michelin give stars out to Japanese restaurants like confetti. Pretty daft overall and to be taken with a pinch of salt
it looks great but what makes this ramen michelin worthy compared to all the other amazing ones ive seen? it doesnt seem any better honestly
With that sort of demand, I'm suprised they entertained this type of video. They obviously do not need a longer line, they need more/larger venues.
With a michelin star, more capacity is not always a good thing
@@erickv2739 they are still charging $8 though? That's not typical supply/demand economics. If they can keep the quality high at $8, they should be able to expand.. if not, the price should rise to decrease demand.
Maybe they are just new and have ideas for the future. Doesn’t hurt to raise your profile with a video from a good utuber. No? Reminds me of a famous chain called W……a. Being smaller and not a chain their food must be tastier. Maybe they got a star for all sorts of reasons apart from taste and presentation, smooth service, value for money, speed, tech etc.
Maybe thet keep quantity low so quality high, the line maybe just for a period of day, not all day
Must be American. Not everything is about more and bigger
wow this is worth more than $8
😊
Imagine this place had to do high volume lol….
意外に安いな・・・もし、アメリカでこの星付きらーめん店で一杯たのもうもんなら5000円とかするだろうなw
Finally. Michelin place that serves real food.
❤
the ramen she eats with garnishing with egg what its called
Even better with beer
In the US a bowl of ramen is 20 dollars but only 10% as good as those found in Japan.
The kitchen is spotless.
Chicken looks sous vide..deli meat texture, not a fan. I’m sure it’s tasty.
여기맛있어요
$3.50 to $8.80 USD for a Michelin star quality grub, dayum. Thats dirt cheap for a restaurant.
👍🍜
The chef didn’t shake the excess water from ramen noodles all over the kitchen floor. Surely this isn’t authentic! 😂
japaness the only people who would get a michelin star for some soup and noodles in a bowl.
That broth, wow.
The chef's work so fluidly around each other. Shame the egg was overcooked.
I noticed that about the egg as well.
i think a Michelin star chef knows how to cook an egg better than you lol. runny eggs are overrated asf
В Мишлен работают без перчаток? 😮
Do they charge such low prices in order to share their food with as many people as possible without looking at the financial gain or would this have been a fair price for their level of food in Tokyo?
I went to Japan a couple years ago back when the exchange rate was more like $1=100 yen and these prices would be pretty normal for a fast-casual-ish type of place. Very interesting that they’re keeping prices like this with a Michelin star. Out of curiosity, I started looking on Google for current menus of places I’ve been to and it’s like inflation barely affected them over there, at least going from memory of what I think I paid like 5 years ago. Plus 1 USD is currently roughly 140 yen which makes the food look even more crazy cheap. I don’t know how they do it.
It’s not just a Japan thing, food is cheap throughout most of Asian. Japan is on the pricier side for the region
Both maybe. That price is like still within average ramen price in japan, usually like 800-1500 yen on good ramen restaurant, even without michelin.
But after they got their michelin, they prob wanna keep the price same for all their current customers, while remain to be competitive in price.
Other michelin star ramen resturants also keep their price around 1000+ yen.
Burning weather and hot noodles. I wait until cicadas stop crying.
1200 yen is $8?
I thought you stopped making videos
soooooooooo goood damn
Looks amazing but judging on how many tickets you had I am sure it wasn't $8 lol ;)
Some dishes are inspired by Sichuan cuisine
Why people are lined up just to try noodles?
作品として食べに行くならいいんだろうけど、美味いラーメン屋は山ほどあるよ!ミシュランが全てでは決してない!全国各地のラーメン屋に行ってみな!飛ぶぞ!
Suggestion?
Really cheap for such a piece of culinary art!
WoW i am surprise to see her working without a hair net. Maybe because of the video, I hope 🤞
Uhmazin
Can see why a younger crowd as well as average westerners would love this and is given a michelin star. It strikes a good balance between preparing food cleanly (being an open kitchen in front of customers) and overall very presentable on the dining table. Though looking at how (and how long) they 'decorate' the toppings, mostly pre-cooked and refrigerated, and leaving the soup and noodles in the bowl idled for that long, real gourmets or ramen lovers may find it overhyped.
Its noodles....
so nerdy, those ppl go to eat soba with that heat
I don't get it, you can double the price and pay your workers better and it's still a bargain for the customer and there will still be a line. Glutton for punishment across the board.
how is this possible with these prices?
東京!給料も高いけど物価高いよね
I dont understand these displays where you can order your stuff. Cant you just talk and say what you want?
Hello
