    Subaru put out a TSB several years ago about a defective torque converter, and they did cover it under warranty. Presentation was typically a stall on coasting to a stop. I thought they had fixed that issue in newer versions.

    Makes perfect sense. Lockup is slow to release so it's ok on normal stops.

    Okay,,,,,,,,,,I admit my mistaken guess........you say converter, I say you know. Thanks, Uncle Kenny. You are always a genius. Cool stuff. Thanks for your knowledge

    I seen this happen on a GM Malibu no lights on at all. But it would only do it after a 45 min drive than come to a stop it would stall out but restart just fine. Long story short it ended up being a exhaust manifold gasket leak. Another note it had been in the shop before i started working at this particular GM dealer to which no one could find the issue. Crazy when you check basic readings.

    Good morning brother Kenny, this makes me think about my father who didn't have to concern himself with such an issue driving a 1953 Plymouth with a 3 on the tree manual with overdrive to save fuel. Yhose were simpler times. Thank you for the video.

    "Stalls when braking hard", immediately thought this was about the 94-99 suburban/tahoe, 😆 🤣 😂

    I have an old Ford truck with a manual trans that will do that occasionally when running longer hway trips in the very cold weather, you start slowing down and engine will cut out - I can clutch and restart it again just get manual steering until I do. I believe it is related to a vehicle speed sensor and moisture in the connections

    There's a little pump in my Crosstrek (I've been told) that keeps a steady pressure to the fuel pump. Four times in the past two years I've stepped into my quiet garage to find it happily puttering away hours after I'd shut my car off --who knows if this might have happened in noisy parking lots, and I missed it. Of course, the dealer says this is normal... "Computers. right?"

    In my GM experience, the clutch in the converter is locked on until a solenoid is activated to send oil pressure the release the clutch.

    Had a 2011 Legacy. Same issue. Dealer fixed under warranty. They had extended the warranty to 150k back then on the trans.

    My first experience with a subaru was popping the hood and seeing the spare tire mounted on top of the engine. I just stared at it for a minute wondering why!!!LOL 😁

    Your right "Scare" them to bring it in. My Speed Sensor in my Jeep Compass fell out of it's fixture "Rotted", wheel bearing had to be replaced to fix, Traction Control, Brake, 4 Wheel lights were on.

    Very common on that vintage Subaru to have torque converter clutch failure probably needs a converter. You haven't seen them because Subaru extended the warranty on them. Now most are out of warranty

    I bet that lock up problem is really hard on the CVT shives and chain.

  • @jafa1402
    @jafa1402 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yeah , issue is well know. What's not well know is that virtually every 'serious' gearbox repair shop has the ability to repair torque convertors and can do this repair. You need to laser cut the gearbox side off, drop out the vane assemblies , spring and washer, replace the washer , laser it all back up and rebalance it. Now the cost of doing that is cheaper than buying a new TC. Its the only part in that TC that wears so you'll have to judge for yourselves if its worth doing. The "valve" is actually a steel washer and a spring. That's its. The steel from the factory was too soft and wore out . Weather its worth buying a new TC or getting yours repaired is up to you. We did a repair as here OEM parts are ridiculously expensive and it worked perfectly till we sold the car 4(?) years later. Its so common I would guess that a good number of shops have recon TC units on the shelf.

    Thank you for the video Kenny! I can also report that my 2018 forester XT with CVT has sometimes the tendency to shudder when braking more agressively. No stalling but just about. Also whines when accelerating hard from standstill, can it be lock-up cluch slipping / not fully engaged?

    This is not unusual at all for 10-12 CVT The Subaru CVT has 2 failures for these years. Torque converter bearing failure causing slow fluid drain off resulting in the car stalling. The second one is Solenoid failure requiring a new valve body.

    I noticed that the car has a low tire pressure monitor on. Do you fix little things like this for the customer even if you don't repair the vehicle?
