So good to see an Aussie riding away from them in the mountains, taking the stage and yellow. From a strategic point of view, is it too early to show his hand?
It seems they (uae and jumbo) just didn't pay as much attention to him today so it ended up a good move. If you try this later and you were still in serious GC contention, you'd be marked and never allowed in that big of a breakaway. So this turned out to be a great move to get time. By all rights he should've been marked to some degree as last years giro winner and one of the people in the conversation for gc besides jonas and tadej.
@@Elanshin is his team able to carry the weight of the Yellow Jersey? I appreciate it was a great move and jumbo and UAE dropped the ball. And I guess he may never get another opportunity to wear Yellow or win a stage again, so you take it when you can; but I just wonder now (with all the talk about Vingo and Podacar), he's lost that element of surprise, which he might have had in later mountain stages (and of course whether his team can protect the GC lead. Perhaps they won't even bother).
@@anthonyjames7534 honestly, while he is an outside contender, this is his first tour and even getting a stage win and a single yellow jersey is a badge of honour for a lot of pro cyclists. I think they're just taking it as it comes and seeing what they can achieve.
Firing Phil from SBS Australia and replacing him will the roughest sounding commentators Australia could find ended my interest in the tour. Never watched it again.
so cool to see Aussies continue to punch above our weight, jai has a great shot at winning the tour if he keeps improving like this
Congratulations Jai, on an outstanding ride.
