    I don't usually comment, but I had to comment before I even finish this video. This video is such a perfect example of how to document and narrate. No wastage in time, no fluff. Just succinct and to the point. Thank you. You should probably offer TH-camrs coaching on your approach to making these types of videos.

      Preach! This is how you make a how to video. No useless chatter about anything and everything under the sun before getting to the actual subject matter. Then he succinctly explains the hows and more importantly the whys to what you need to do. Great video.

    • @DnRprodxIL
      @DnRprodxIL 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. This is a great old style TH-cam "how to" video. Nowadays, so many users are concerned about building a platform in order to provide income from their channel. There are plenty of content creators that are in it for the video editing, but those are usually obvious and not always the most popular. Ryan Knorr provides a healthy mix of both on his channel about grass, however he tends to talk too much with information that may be subjective.

      @@tmcrae6957 Just buy cheap steer manure at $1.25 a bag, get 5 bags for size of his lawn, and pour on top of bald spots, water a lot, and in a few months, voila - new grass! But if you want to do his method, go for it, spend $75, then another $25 on netting and stakes, to prevent birds/squirrels from eating, but have to deal with arrogant neighbor nazis if you live in HOA / or install wind chimes on sticks in the ground to scare away the birds/squirrels, but your 95 year old lady neighbor might complain.... - but I prefer the steer manure - much cheaper, anyways, it worked for me..... and yeah, add fallen leaves from trees on those bald patches too, grass will grow fast from drinking the water you water and eating the plant food that is the manure and leaves, plus grass clippings.......don't waste your money on grass seeds from Home Depot, I am telling you, grass will grow anywhere given plant food to eat (manure and leaves/grass clippings) and you inundating those bald spots with deep watering (like 30 minutes one evening), then just go on with your life and come back to check up on those bald patches a few months later

    • @ww387gr
      @ww387gr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tmcrae6957 another technique is, called spring seeding, and that's to just let your existing grass grow tall to about 3 feet as you'll see it will have seeds on top, and the wind blows it away on your lawn to grow more grass. Again, you'll have to deal with neighborhood nazis in HOA, but try to "apply" to let the fascists HOA board members know that this is called the natural way, spring seeding, to make your yard more beautiful, and hopefully they will understand. Anyways, I live in an ec0-friendly, knowledgeable little neighborhood where it's voluntary to join community HOA, called Lakewood gardens in California, and lots of people do this in the spring, and guess what, the cost is.....wait for it.......FREE and even saves you money on gas for the mower as you don't mow for the first 2 months of spring as you let the grass grow to to seed. then mow it and after a few months, you'll see good results. Anyways , I use this method PLUS the steer manure/dried leaves/grass clippings method and it surely works for me. I thought the city would mail me a warning to cut the grass, but they didn't because I cut it after 6 weeks and it depends on where you live and if the community leaders are knowledgeable, if they are not, educate them, I'm sure they'll understand, if they are not power tripping Nazis

    I prefer to wait until very late fall before winter freezing starts. Spread the seed and do the last season mowing, using all the cuttings as mulch to protect the seed during winter. The winter rains and snow will take care of watering and germinating the seed, pushing it down to get in contact with the moist ground. You'll see how easily the new grass will grow as spring advances, without you having to worry about anything during the whole winter.

    • @Troy-Echo
      @Troy-Echo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Same here...just less progressed than your lawn. My front lawn is about 5,000 sq. ft. and I got a soil test, removed about 2 inches of top soil with a sod cutter. Cutting the soil was easy, removing that much soil, back breaking until I found someone with a lawn tractor with a front end loader, but as a big added bonus, removing 2 inches of soil removed 99% of the weed seeds so the weeds in my lawn are minimal where the soil was removed. Then I tilled the soil, used stakes and string to correct a few minor grading issues, then used a lawn roller to compact it back down and then used a drag mat for about 5-6 hours to level everything down to very gradual changes in grade so I won't be scalping anything. Zoysia can be mowed at any height from about half an inch up, but is typically mowed at 1.5 inches as it creates a more dense growth to make up for the lack of longer leaves. I raked the soil and put down my seed. I didn't add mulch or top soil because Zoysia seed shouldn't be more than 1/4 inch deep, so the ruts from the rake were perfect, although adding topsoil may have been better. Then I put down fertilizers (pH was perfect oddly enough), and watered 4 times a day and everything is filling in great. Bad weather put me about a month behind from when I wanted to plant so I won't have everything established as much as I'd like this year, but my the middle of summer next year most of the semi-bare spots will be totally filled in. My neighbor has had the best looking lawn for years...now we moved in about a year ago and he is going to have a hard time beating my lawn. I'm only competing against myself, but he is going to have to be a little more aggressive with his lawn care if he wants to keep the coveted spot of "best looking lawn on the street". A few neighbors were already recognizing this while the lawn was nothing but bare soil from how much work I was putting into leveling everything. I still have a little top dressing to do next year, but it is minimal.

      @Troy-Echo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. It makes your lawn area smell like crap (with good reason - it's dead bacteria skimmed from the top of the poop processing waste water treatment facility in Michigan or Milwaukee). The smell goes away after a week or after it is watered in well, and you have to take into account the amount of nitrogen you're putting down as well if you have a lawn like Zoysia which has very low nitrogen requirements (2 pounds per year per 1,000 sq. ft.). Too much nitrogen can can bad thatch problems in Zoysia, so take into account the amount of nitrogen you're putting down with Milorganite and adjust down the amount of nitrogen in your applications of fertilizer, that is if you need to control the amount of nitrogen you put on your lawn as I do anyway.

    • @ww387gr
      @ww387gr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      are you a dumb dumb? Just inundate those bald patches with water and voila, new patches of grass grows as your dogs' pee or poop is fertilizer, but it's too strong by itself thus you have to inundate it, dilute it with water for it to be effective as fertilizer or else the grass turns yellow or die from again, the poo or pee that's too condensed and strong - in addition to watering it deeply, like 30 minutes one evening, add dried leaves and grass clippings to those bald patches

    Ive done the same thing here with my lawn. It was quite heave clay ive coated it in mostly compost and top soil. Seeded it with shade tolerant lawn seed due to the high shade and mixed on some coir too. Its been hot the past few weeks and it dries out pretty quick so alot of watering required so happy so far
