I was going to mention this as well. Any clear "paper" will be good, like overhead projector sheets, transparency film. Hmmm, I wonder if t-shirt transfer paper would work...
That is really something else, it really pops a lithophane out of its shell, I love Lithophanes, they have been around for so long now , almost as early at the late 1700's but came to fame in the early part of the 1800's when it was produced on pottery, its similar to stereo photography in which it producers a 3 dimensional image , of which I am a avid follower and producer. Its a superb way of viewing what is afterall a photograph and in this world of digital photography its an excellent medium to show off your best work on now that we hardly print anything. Thanks for showing this method. It really is a nice alternative to normal Lithophanes..
Man. You put this out there, blew everyone’s mind, you printed the world, then you added colour! Way to take an idea and keep stepping up your game! A tech question. Have you ever had lines in your lithophanes that look like the walls are missing? Seemingly random and very thin and weak. Thanks!
I love printing lithophanes, thanks, this is exactly the kind of thing I want to see, much as I love the idea of printing colour lithos with the Mosaic Palette, $$$$$$$. I was going to experiment this week with acetate, this gives me even more ideas. So thank you. And Simon, we're your friends, and you're amazing. Keep going.
You come up with some of the most brilliant ideas. I learned how to print lithophanes watching your earlier videos, and love printing them. This definitely takes it to another level! Thank you!
People who can make fun of themselves and others, with boundaries of course, without batting an eye are so fun to be around. Loved the video! Jag kommer dock inte besöka 3D meet up Sweden pga att jag bor i Malmö och för att jag inte kan någonting om 3D skrivare.
Great thing or idea! 😁👍Test it now. Speaking of which: I'm trying it out, instead of working with toxic spray glue, apply a thin layer of wood glue to the back of the board. I then glue the printed paper onto it. Actually works quite well. The adhesive moisture is still somewhat problematic.
@@nxturedzntm7940 Thank you!☺👍 Actually already. Unfortunately, I first tried cheap wood glue. Unfortunately it was so watered down that the printed paper became wavy and it did not stick properly. Long drying time. Then I tried it with good Ponal wood glue (known?). Spread thinly on the plastic. That worked out wonderfully. (Sometimes I used that as a coating for self-designed and printed flyers).
@@chrisf.8177 Thanks for your quick answer! I understand, thank you for sharing your experience! Of course I know this Ponal Glue. :) But I would only be afraid that less light would be transmitted through the litophane because of this Ponal Glue. Is it really impossible to see the glued areas from the front? By the way: Do u speak German? :)

If you could print the lithophane with a smooth back using a high temperature filament, e.g Nylon, you could then print the color image on a piece of transfer paper, and iron it directly on the back of the lithophane.
Very good job as always. Thx for the good ideas you have and for your creativity. Be sure you have many friends like us! Can't see you in Sweden, 👍👍👍 from France.
i've done this many times where the "Color Image" is just the exact same image as i uploaded......making the lithophane quite dark when in color ????? I don't get the kinda distorted image upon downloading.
You need to make up 9 at the exactly the same size (different motif) and then mount them on the wall with light strip behind and some electronic that light them up in different patterns - think that would be cool.
Dude you make me crease up laughing ,you sure you're not my sane better looking twin? had to subscribe because i kept forgetting and need you in my laughter life
LOL. He spray paints out of his window, I do it in my bathroom in the middle of winter(-30F). Lots of ventilation. Also have a uv light to dry the paint in there. And I just realized you could probably use a picture over the face of the 3d model using the decal method. There is a couple of method us can use to apply images to anything.
Definitely making one now after seeing these. Brilliant. Just got to convince my inkjet to work now. Says it all when your home built (Anet A8 Ratrig) 3D printer prints better than my paper printer. In fact the inkjet now thinks my ink is invisible. Or at least that's how it looks when it produces a blank sheet of paper 😣
Instead of glue I would use an acrylic sheet curved by a heat gun. The litho print would need a frame edge to pop the acrylic in with the color print in between. Now to make the black stand out, you could make a separate black only print and photo copy that on a transparent sheet. it might need multiple sheets to enhance the black. All goes in between the litho print and the curved acrylic.
I wish I had seen this video a while ago. Last xmas, I made a collage of family pic lithophanes and put them into a single frame. Lit each lithophane programmatically using an Arduino. Having the actual colors would have been sweet.
They funny part is that even though he says that his mom thought the Lithophane was absolute garbage actually translated from Swedish she basically just said that she thought the black and white one stood out more than the color one.
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know a tool to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost my login password. I would appreciate any help you can give me
@Joseph Howard thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I may have an idea. Print litophane 3 times but every one in diffrent color (filter by CMYK). That way, when You stack them - they will work opposite to color filters and maybe turn full color litophane. You think it may work?
So what would it look like if it was just being a thin wall of white plastic? Like, does the lithophane make the colored paper behind it show the image better or would it look the same without the lithophane
I got good results with printing the colour image onto transparent self adhesive vinyl and sticking it to the back of the lithophane 👍✌️
Nice idea
Nice! Do you have a link to the product you're using? I'm curious to give it a try as well.
Too complicated as to me. Pva and thin paper worked great and easy to find

how are you printing the pic of the stl file? that is where im getting confused

Hi. Could you make a project where you charge a lipo from a stove/fireplace with peletier units? Or some other way? 😊
is the lithopane supposed to be positive or negative image????
Put a light diffusion sheet and some LEDs behind it and wow. *EPIC*
Hey, can you make a video on how to create those cool timelapses ?
here I was thinking he was going to split the image into 3 seperate RGB planes and have each one lit up via a red green or blue led.
So what would it look like if it was just being a thin wall of white plastic? Like, does the lithophane make the colored paper behind it show the image better or would it look the same without the lithophane
nice work as always!
