      Interestingly enough, in the Legends novel Darth Plagueis, the young Palpatine himself is manipulated in a similar way by Darth Plagueis. Plagueis excellently created a scenario where Palpatine was pushed into a corner by his abrasive father who disapproved of Palpatine's friendship with Hego Damask (Plagueis' public persona), just to see how far Palpatine would go to become an "emancipated being". Well, Palpatine killed his entire family, and upon contacting Plagueis for help, Plagueis reflects on the risk he is taking by revealing to the young Palpatine his status as the sole Sith Lord in the galaxy to turn him into his apprentice

Looking at you Mace WINDOW cough cough. The Jedi like Luminara Unduli , Mace Ki-adi-Mundi of the prequel era got what they deserved. The truly great Jedi were ones like Qui-Gon and Plo. Yoda was great but his advice to Anakin just needed to be better worded and explained. Seems like Yoda to me meant everyone everything is part of the force and when they / we die we become part of it so since we're all part of the force and all meld into it we don't truly part. Our bodies are merely a shell. This to me is actually true to life and it seems like this is what Yoda meant. The problem is his wording is not the best for an emotional upset and worried Anakin.

You also realize the republic is very much corrupt as well, and that the only true people who were actually true to what they stood for, was the CIS. The CIS only formed because of the corruption in the republic, and they personally, saw this first hand as they were former senators themselves. The major problem with the Jedi was that the sith were the only ones able to compete or go against the Jedi in a big way. They were their true rivals, yet, them knowing the force works in mysterious ways, didn’t think nor anticipate an attack from the only people on the galaxy who could stop them, even if they were considered to be extinct. He did it to Padme and the Decoy Queen of Naboo to throw Valorum from office and become Chancellor through the Naboo crisis, he used emergency powers during the clone wars to give himself absolute power, fooling the entire Senate during turmoil. He used Quigon's death to turn his master, Count Dooku to the dark side and help him set the table for the Empire, and he used Anakin's clashing with the Jedi Council to turn him to the dark side.

Palpatine offers Anakin the role of his Apprentice, in a way that seems like a political role, but which would make him basically the #2 most powerful person in the galaxy. He gets him to start naming anything that he wants - a luxury apartment, the entire luxury complex, the planet Corellia, the whole system of Corellia - and that any and all of this can be his with the snap of a finger. Then when Anakin laments that he really only wants one thing (power to save Padme, power over life and death), Palpatine reveals that Anakin can have even this, if he joins him.

    George Lucas is clearly a student of history. Palpatine seems to be a well put together combination of Hitler, Stalin, Julius Caesar, Caesar Augustus, Caligula and Diocletian. George also seems to have mirrored historical events when writing about Palpatines plans, for example, Order 66 is an obvious copy of the Night of the Long Knives.
    This is very effective, as it makes the events in an otherwise unrealistic fantasy land seem very plausible. The fans who criticised the prequels obviously knew Fuck all about the world around them to not see that

    I just think it’s crazy how Anakin, who for the last 2 years or however long the Clone Wars lasted did nothing but defend Palpatine as a good friend, even when one of his own soldiers in Fives straight up told him that the Chancellor is evil, he still defended him. But when those suspicions were actually true, Anakin drops almost everything and is on the verge of killing the man who for years acted as a father figure and someone to talk about his feelings with where his own Order was failing him.

    • @ransomweslock2007
      @ransomweslock2007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      Well, now he knows that Palpatine is Sidious. The very same Sidious who orchestrated a war, and is who is responsible for the deaths of many of Anakins other friends. The fact that Sidious has done all that he has done, try to assassinate padme, create maul and tyrannus, along with everything else, and Anakin still is hesitant? That speaks volumes.

      @@ransomweslock2007 Does Anakin or anyone really know that Sidious manipulated the war? I thought Nute Gunray and Tyranus were the only ones who knew. I mean Sidious could have been a random Sith not connected to the political stuff. Also it could have been another Sith lord, because the rule of 2 have been (seemingly) violated so many times with Dooku and Grieveous etc ... ? I'm not disagreeing, I just try to understand

    • @markbrown8533
      @markbrown8533 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@bm-ub6zc There is a scene in AotC where Tyrannus outright tells Kenobi that "Darth Sidious" is controlling the senate. I don't blame you for forgetting it because AotC is such a bore, but the Jedi _knew_ the Dark Lord was pulling all the strings right under their noses. The trouble was solving the mystery with a war going on, and accusing the Supreme Chancellor in wartime is the kind of shot you don't take until you're 100% certain.

      @@bm-ub6zc in the ROTS novelisation, Mace Windu states that he tracked Darth Sidious to the Chancellor's office. The Jedi Council believed that Sidious was amongst Palpatine's staff or guards.
