As an AuDHDer its so good to hear all of this said. I only started to look into what autism actually is at 30, and I thought I was alone and weak for struggling with all of this stuff. And I have been trying to set boundaries all my life- its especially difficult as an afab raised in a conservative family. So just having all of this laid out simply and matter of factly is so, so empowering.
I love these videos on neurodivergence 🙏 Thank you for your frankness, and for sharing some of your own story!
My own tips for surviving burnout: Start noticing when you're being hard on yourself, or critical about "needing to do more" and check that voice. Remind yourself constantly that resting is not the same as doing nothing, its actually a basic need that will facilitate future activities.
Grounding, getting lots of sunlight, indulging in things that just make you happy (not as a treat, but as self-care,) salt baths, and yes, lots of vegetables. My attitude towards diet is to let myself eat whatever I want, but to also force myself to eat as much healthy food as possible 🥦
I've gotten really into sprouting microgreens recently 🥰 Its so cute to see all the little plants in my kitchen! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱

Thank you, thank you. I listened to this when you first published and told myself it was interesting, but I can't see how I could end up going through this, not realizing I was in it.
Fast forward a couple of months and I can now call myself a survivor from corporate psychological abuse and burnout. I ended up in hospital with abnormal ECG readings and damaging my relationships with those I most loved in the process.
This video is now saved and on repeat, I'm working through the books you suggested and making positive change.
Thank you again for sharing your experience, I can't imagine how many toxic people this channel has attracted. I hope you can manage it sustainably, you are making a difference in the world.
    Thanks mate

Wow, I watched this video with my partner this morning while drinking coffee. I won't be cutting out caffiene or gluten but everything else was well recieved and much appreciated! Thank you so much for this, David.
Edit: the only things I would add to this list are super basic, but I also learned about them in the same roundabout way you learned about most of the things you mentioned: through personal experience.
The two ingredients I would add are:
    1. At least an hour or two of intentional sunshine absorption every week
    2. Divide your body weight by 2 and drink at least that many ounces of water every day.
Just thought I'd add these for anyone reading the comments, I hope it helps someone out there.

Mental health and physical health are so intertwined. The more I feel mentally burnt out, the more I need physical exercise to almost balance that out. Today I went rock climbing and jiu jitsu after a mad work week (I'm a postdoc in molecular genetics) and now I just feel at peace after doing that level of physical activity. I'll do the sauna and plunge pool later to help with the inflammation.

Omg I think we’re cloned! Thank you for your advice. So helpful. I’m recovering from burnout. Everything you are saying is me right now. Happened and happening to me right now. Was fired 10 months ago. Grew up in gifted classes. High expectations . Took care of everyone. Jobs took advantage. Very sensitive to environments and people. Still not working. My life has collapsed. When I’m sitting or still, my heart rate is 115 on average. My entire body’s systems are going haywire. What the world says I should do, doesn’t work or apply. So I understand the pain, the exercise concept, meditating ect… will try zen meditation. But during this time, I’ve changed so much for myself. People are angry and don’t like it because I benefited everyone except for myself.

David, you put out so much quality content that speaks to people with not much representation in media or literature that I can't thank you enough.
Usually I have to go through dozens of sources to extract bits and pieces of useful info and then reassemble them into something of value.
Your videos are all value after value after value and I feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled upon your channels.
    Much love!

Acute intense exercise increases inflammation in the short term, but regular moderate exercise over the medium and long-term without a doubt reduces inflammation.

maybe the down time is there to point out that there is a natural process that is at work in the giving and receiving even on a social level. You are a great content provider and if you continue to develop these trusting relationships with real people who can appreciate your value you will find an environment where the real you can grow. The thing I like is when you stand on your soap box you are aware of it and know when to get down from it. Keep getting on it from time to time.

12:15 I just realized that I don't have perfectionism anymore during work, however I still have it in my off time. For example when I get ready in the morning and take my supplements, I am constantly thinking about the most effective way to do everything.

Hey Dave! Really interested in the inflamation topic.
Last year I hit burnout, and it triggered a series of serious symptoms.
After getting MRIs and other tests, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
A low cortisol lifestyle is something I've been exercising, but I didn't had a name for it. Thanks for that!
Really interested in the book you mentioned.

Great video Dave. For me... BTDTMTMGTTS (been there, done that, made the movie, got the t-shirt). As someone who also identifies as neurodiverse, your comments around not doing what you don't like were interesting. The response that came to mind that it so often thrown is that you are being "selfish", "we all have to do things we don't like" etc. On the other hand, I can't expect people to understand what it is like to live in my head, just as I don't know what it's like to live in theirs. Over many years I have made a comment to people that goes along the lines of, "I don't expect you to understand how my mind works and quite frankly, I hope you never have to go through that experience." That said, I wouldn't swap it for the world!

Thanks for your remarkable honesty and openness. Having been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes a few years ago put me on a Low Carb / Keto path that made so much difference (lost 30% weight and still going!). Thats over a 1+ year period.
+1 for your comments on burnout too! I came close at end of a contract years ago, wife spotted it and _made_ me take time off - ended up being 3 months! But boy did I feel fantastic 🙂 So I can understand it could take years from a full one.
Unfortunately our species seems to be losing compassion, and this is but one side effect.
    Travel Safe 🙏

As usual, thanks for posting this video. I agree with you: people, specially in the context of an office, know who is autistic and who's not. IMO, as someone who has worked in tech for over 20 years and who, before COVID spawned the WFH modality, I was already working remotely precisely to avoid the narcissists and the office-gaslighting.
I'm also a HSP and just like you, every time I went to the neurotypical H.R. to voice my concerns about the treatment I was told that I was imagining things, that I was this or that-because it is always you it is never the others.
I will say tho, that most of these people who gaslight you, themselves are also neurospicy: they're bipolar and to me that's when the office begins to be a hindrance for those of us who are just autistic. These people, they know when someone in the office is autistic and they will work overtime to pick on you over and over, until you quit.
It's happened to me and to friends who also were autistic. It's like some people never transcend the high-school mentality and continue to relate to others the same way they did back in school, specially when it comes to figuring out who's "that kid" who they can pick on, harass, and then gaslight over and over. It's like a frigging game for them.

I was in a similar situation as a kid of high expaectations and 0 guidance, and I am very much in this phase of feeling lost right now hahaha, and maybe advice like that would be usefuk for people in the same situation
