@@ozymandias7940 Not efficient time wise, certainly, but from what I understand, pretty darned effective when something you REALLY don't want to hit you is coming at you. It would be interesting to see it in action against a realistic target. I should go look. The obvious problem is that you have no protection during that interval after use, but they have other protective measures available during that time, I would certainly think. It would seem to make sense to me to find a way to shrink that reloading time down to about 10% of that figure, but I know literally nothing about the procedure. Obviously it needs to get more automated. IIRC, this is just a gun pulled from a fighter, and probably loads similarly. Again, just a speculative grab from the hind end. I used to do weapons design, or more accurately electronics for weapons, but have no experience whatsoever with guns. The stuff I worked on was mostly sensors and one target missile that flew against STORM and THAADS.
What's with the tape measure at 2:24? I could have sworn that MIL-SPECs call for metric measurements but tat tape measure is clearly imperial. Other than that, If the C-RAM is anything like the Navy's Phalanx, then the system can work autonomously(without human interaction). It still needs people for reloading, but as for target acquisition and engagement, it can do it all on it's own.
Because of it's stiffness a wire rope will tend to unspool beyond the needed amount. Tension should always be kept especially upon rewinding because allowing it to cross itself under load destroys the cable and makes it dangerous to handle by breaking and fraying strands which then puncture the hand.
when I was in Iraq, my Gunnery Seargent told me you could tell an Army CH47 from a Marine Corps CH46 by how many wheels they have. CH47 has 4 sets, CH46 has 3, 2 in the back 1 up front.
a bit off. I USED vulcan cannon in 69, mounted on a track based armored vehicle. We also used this gun, a cannon, auto firing, six barrels when deployed to Germany and OTHER interesting places.
yes. Not often in peacetime but on my ship 2 they flew what appeared to be a Firebee drone at us as an exercise and it blew it to pieces. As this article stated if its not on a heading towards the ship it won't fire. We waited and the Firebee flew right past our ship and Phalanx did nothing. 2nd pass it flew AT the ship and ...BBBBRRRRRRRRTTTT I imagine that was the point of the test
Did you forget to read it’s called the c-ram counter rocket artillery and mortar 😂. It can be used to shoot down missiles But that’s an entirely different target with an entirely different approach in air defense.😂
Судя по всему наши неопознанные дроны уже там летают, над портовой инфраструктурой, базами и аэродромами. А наши исламские друзья совершают наезды на толпу, чтобы поддержать Трамп, это похоже на звенья одной цепи
Re the C-RAM, so much *BRRRT!* Yes, this is good stuff. Re the Osprey, it does not fly. Those are not rotors, they are BEATING STICKS. They pound so much abuse on the laws of physics, that gravity throws up it's hands and says, "I give up, do whatever you want." And if you've ever been within 10 miles of an Osprey in flight, you would understand this.
Right and so many veterans out there after serving doesn’t even have a bed. To lay their head on! Shame on the government! Funny how they said they are powerful, and mother can wipe out every thing they built in less than an hour! Why we the people don’t know how to live in peace ? Fighting for land and know one will ever take a piece the land with them when they die! ,
Is it fast enough for these newer super sonic missiles.... oh and for the rest of the world . Inches and stuff us Americans use ,as out dated as y'all think it is ...maybe y'all should try your way and ,then you might catch up..
This CIWS is now made obsolete by the Chinese DF-ZF hyper velocity missile with a closing speed of 2.133 miles per second. The US Navy's latest and greatest CIWS acquires an incoming missile at 5.58 miles out and engages the missile at 2.27 miles out. At 4,500 rounds per minute, the CIWS will have expended 75 rounds during it's time on target firing stage period. Meanwhile, the SF-ZF maneuvers at full speed to avoid the stream of 75 20mm anti-missile rounds... The Chinese missile's AI says to itself "Hey that's a pretty hood ornament on that aircraft carrier" just before he rams the island with the surprised CO.
One $20 FPV drone and it's gone. Things and times have changed. They should convert this to shooting out 20 autonomous drones per minute which then fly off already at high altitude. The enemy must then contend with 1200 drones per hour coming at them.
Trump has already told a few people he wants a LPWS Phalanx at the White House and at Mar a Lago. As soon as his new Secretary of Defence is sworn in , Watch the new systems the US will implement to protect our shores and integral infrastructure. Love the bullet fart noises these baby's make.
I would be very concerned if a country that is BROKE spends the amount of money that Amrica does on weapons and goes of taunting the chinese with biiig fleets in their own backyard...but hey they can be trusted ...cause they are the good guys....🤥🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤥
sad to see drones do circles around this then it's gone. Most drones now can pause, hide Behind buildings, ground lvl, do circles, etc etc while these Bullets just go sleight and explode uhh.
Brilliantly informative and thankfully no music playing whilst the Gatling was in action!
Thanks for this, well done video no doubt about it!
Beautiful fireworks you DO NOT want to be on the receiving end of. That night sequence was a sight to behold.
Fully loaded: 1,500 rounds
3sec bursts: 200 rounds
Depleted: 21sec
Reload time: 20min
20min to reload for 21sec firing? Doesn't seem very practical.

Is this war mongering ,.some people just live for this,. it's sad what we have to resort to 😢
I would be interested to know which is more effective....the C-RAM Phalanx or the MANTIS NBS C-RAM from Rheinmetall.
Mantis' biggest advantage is its significantly higher mobility!
This would attract attention at any shooting range.
I'm definetly going to buy me one of those when I move out of my Mums house.

Sad fact of life, that countries, mainly America need to spend a lot money on weapons to keep the so cal Peace. Thank god we have America!

Close enough for government work🤩
I was a 16-R M61A1 20mm Vulcan gunner. These systems are just super high tech Vulcans. 👍
Wow that's amazing

The aspect ratio is insane!!!
You need to leave the info up a few seconds longer to be able to read it all.
You can press pause...............
Correct! I can’t read the whole thing, either.

Wow. Not just scary but super scary.

5:15 night firing LPWS, land based Phalanx, 20mm tracer, 1,600 yards, thousands of rounds per minute but 3 second bursts
takes 20 minutes to reload
That is alot of rounds use to hit a target or two. Any one knows the efficiency ratio?
i spent 8 years in the navy. This was on our ship then. I'm sure it is better now in 2024. I was on the truxton
It was1982 truxton
How many rounds per second are manufactured?
20 min load time isnt optimum, you would need 2 so you have constant cover for thst area
The Navy realized after the system was in place and being used that requiring crewmen to go out on deck to reload was totally self-defeating! 🤪
Does it ever get used in combat with the Navy?
yes. Not often in peacetime but on my ship 2 they flew what appeared to be a Firebee drone at us as an exercise and it blew it to pieces.

No, they just use 'em for practice. They would never use a war machine in combat.
I would love to see in action on these ufo things flying around our military bases and nuclear power stations and other important places
it needs a minion paintjob :D
Already dubbed R2-D2
If I ever get to missing Poquoson, VA I can just watch this video and see Langley Air Field where the F-22 are housed.
Can these contraptions be used for barking dogs in the neighborhood, i wonder
They need to develop smaller shotgun version to be placed on armored vehicles.
If that gets 70-80% then whats for the other % ?
Metal storm ?
This thing/gun should be called the chainesaw gun!! That's crazy 😮.....
DAMMMMM 6000 bullets per min...😮😮😮😮😮DAMMMMM...
The sound of gunfire reminds me of my father in the bathroom.
did your father have started a secret war in the bathroom? 😆
Couldn’t stop 1000 drones coming in from all directions. Modern warfare is changing fast. Still have its uses though.
When you think every 6th round is a tracer, that's a hell of a lot of rounds.......
Imagina spending $20 million for education and healthcare!
Dream 😅😅 not doing any government reality
That would buy about 100 worthless university BA degrees , or 1000 high school students how not to find their own state on a map!
You won't worry about health care if you were dead 🎉
Por favor no nos trate de tontos , en la miniatura los proyectiles hacen arco 😂😂😂😂😂
Great for unknown drones.?!
Too effective.
Wow. Looks like a robot from aaa... Darlek?
Don’t want to hear negative input at the moment
These are for last ditch effort to stop incoming missiles.

What if a swarm of drones attacks all at once, or the drones are covered in tank armor?
That's probably good for one time use. How could that be a continuous sustainable weapon? Doubtful it could be.
I don't know. It looks like a very expensive weapons system that waists ammunition.
Its a terror on a Warthog, but statoinary targets would seem vulnerable in the future drone era warfare we see today !

But there ARE CH-46 in the Marine Corps
Can i put my hand 🖐🏾

So where are all these super lasers
On our spacecraft.
Is these lasers a lie

They are.

sounds like the tripods in the war of the world's movie next thing you know they well have these guns on AI robot's.
Having all such defense systems became useless against Houthies drone and Missile attacks .
My be you are upgrading the weapon systems .

Alhamdulillah India
It would be cool to see it painted up to look like R2-D2.
I NEED one !
What a waste of Rounds. I would think.
Making adaptive super fast drones would be more efficient.
In a firefight how fast can they reload one of those guns
The video says 20 mins. It's not to be wasted on a firefight, it's to defend against attack from the air [inc indirect fire].
Pissing away your healthcare hilarious.😂
If this gun all of a sudden went away there be no difference to the US military budget 😂😂
