What a period for fillies this was, Time Charter, Oh So Sharp, Pebbles, Indian Skimmer and of course Miesque. Wow we were spoilt for a few years there !!
@@thomaselliott4157 Quite agree with you sir and very underrated too. Although Mysterious and Geoff Lewis were Momentous too. May I say Dahlia should also have a mention as well. 70s n 80s were Fab years for Flat racing. Kind regards Glynn n greetings from Stourbridge West Midlands UK 🤝
If I ever need cheering up, this video does the job. Brilliant, beautiful filly and as lionhearted as Leonidas. "England's super filly!" You little beauty Pebbles R.I.P
When you think of it she had every right to beat them, the way she did in The Champion Stakes. Helen Street was a 12f Irish Oaks winner, Slip Anchor was a 12f Derby winner and Commanche Run was a Leger winner 14f. But she was scintillating this day.
Best Filly i've ever seen by a country mile, loved watching her race and i still tell people about her today. Dominated some great colts of her time with such ease, would love one like her lol
Recently watched a program on America's HRTV taped in 2009 that touched on some of the best horses and best races of the first 25 years of the Breeders Cup. Pebbles 1985 BC Turf win was one of the races touched on in the program. It was said that Pebbles was such a nervous and high strung filly that trainer Clive Brittain actually gave her a pint of guinness everyday, and she had her own traveling pony to help keep her calm!! LOL. A pint of guinness a day to a filly!! LMFAO!!
She beat Strawberry Road fair and square in a record time. Not only did she beat him, but it wasn't her distance. She was a 10 furlong fillie but won the BC through clever jockeyship and guts.
@snogand Strawberry Road was a wonderful horse. Pat Ellery out-rode everyone in this race. Had Wilcox held his rail run with Strawberry Road he would have won easily. Pebbles though... what can you say?
Apart that race when Dream Ahead gave Frankel a scare,he [Frankel] never had to work hard for any of his wins.In other words,Frankel was never tested. He was a class or two above all comers and he beat so many previous and future Group 1 winners
just watched the Secretariat movie and became a bit emotional at how great a horse he was and then watched this.... that's finished me off! I loved Pebbles, a bonny filly who always tried her heart out. On that Champion Stakes day she was unbeatable.
I've just remembered "come on the blues" part in pebbles running... He was a gelding who accompanied her to all the races... Clive Brittain...what a wonderful racing character! !

And don't forget the magnificent Triptych.
pebbles & eddery were a match in heaven...
R.I.P to you both...
Continue to RIP beautiful Princess and her brilliant pilot
Best filly ever in my opinion

What a champion! So great to be able to re-live those famous
wins. Thank you.

ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE GREATEST !
Every time I hear or read the words "England's super filly" (or write as I have just dicovered) I get goosebumps and tears come to my eyes!!

My all-time favorite Breeders’ Cup race.

Katies , better filly watch the race katies beat her. Both went clear. Now katies was a horse 💕
Best filly I have ever seen
ENGLAND'S SUPER FILLY!! RIP PEBBLES! MEMORIES OF ANOTHER DAY AND TIME!
+Kingpin UK Like the last bit of the commentary as the great filly crossed the line.
Mastery from the great Pat Eddery. What a Jockey and a great filly.Rip both.
Pebbles won me a small fortune back in the day
Quote from Timeform Racehorses of 1983. "sparely made filly... won't stand a great deal of racing". Lol.
Super filly indeed!
She made some high class colts look ordinary.
Pebbles was the bomb
One of the best fillies I saw
I met pebbles in 1989 in Newmarket at dalham hall stud I was 13 I have a pic I wilk treasure 4eva
What an absolutely brilliant fillie she the best I have ever seen.
Best horse & best jockey ever, Pat & Rose perfect match ever R, I , P to both champions forever ❤️🇹🇭🇬🇧🙏

I remember they called that gelding her boyfriend.
Brilliant filly, special.
my fav filly, we were told about her two weeks b4 the nell and told to do her in a double with the 1000 guins 33/1 lovely! thxs for the memory..
"Very, very cheeky, indeed!": my favourite racing commentary excerpt ever.
England's super filly!
A true champion indeed. RIP "PEBBLES"... Englands 'Super Filly'!!!
Pebbles or enable...ME pebbles
Think she's higher rated,on a par with zarkava 😎
She beat Strawberry Road fair and square in a record time. Not only did she beat him, but it wasn't her distance. She was a 10 furlong fillie but won the BC through clever jockeyship and guts.
Did Pebbles ever win a race without gaining a rails run?
She broke My Slip Anchor's Heart 😁
He was very brave in this race over a totally unsuitable distance.
@snogand Strawberry Road was a wonderful horse. Pat Ellery out-rode everyone in this race. Had Wilcox held his rail run with Strawberry Road he would have won easily. Pebbles though... what can you say?
As an Aussie, I'd loved to have seen Strawberry Road get her. Looks like he is going straight past her but she had a ton of guts and class.
Pebbles could’ve ran around the track again and strawberry Road would never have caught her
come on pat lol champion stakes brilliant
I was there backing Comanche run
everybody raves about frankel but I wonder how he would have gone against pebbles?
Apart that race when Dream Ahead gave Frankel a scare,he [Frankel] never had to work hard for any of his wins.In other words,Frankel was never tested. He was a class or two above all comers and he beat so many previous and future Group 1 winners
@jeff griffin you don't know that its your supposition.
@@frankellamtarra2026 don't forget frankel NEVER ran outside the uk, ratherlike winx not running outside Australia.
Pebbles would beat Frankel
@@thomaselliott4157 I suppose its wrong to compare horses of different ages. Enable is the pebbles of this age.

What a beautiful move by Pat Eddery in the Breeders cup
The Best Filly Ever n The Most well balance Stride for a Filly Ever...
Yes I agree best ever
I've just remembered "come on the blues" part in pebbles running...
He was a gelding who accompanied her to all the races...
Clive Brittain...what a wonderful racing character! !
Come on the blues was named after Ipswich Town FC
Was this a better race when it was run at Newmarket? YES/NO ?
Strawberry Road had a lot of minor places in Europe and the US
Traveling the world in 1985 ..fine horse too and deserves great credit
