For women,I am putting forward an information. In India,as there are many temples where women are not allowed,so there are temples where men are not allowed. Some of them are:
1.Brahma Temple,Pushkar(Rajasthan): According to beliefs,Brahma married Goddess Gayatri against the will of Goddess Saraswati(though this story has no Vedic or Puranic basis),so she cursed him that nobody will worship him.Pushkar temple is perhaps the only temple dedicated to Brahma in India.Only women are allowed in the temple.Married men are prohibited to enter, lest curse should befall on them.
    2. Mata Mandir,Bihar: In Muzaffarpur Bihar there is one Mata Mandir. No man is allowed, not even the priest enters in the temple.Only the female devotees enter and worship the Goddess, even during menstruation.
3.Kamakhya Temple,Assam: One of the 52 Shaktipeeth, this temple is located in Guwahati. There is an annual time period of 3 days, called Ambubachi. This period is observed to celebrate the annual menstruation of Goddess Kamakhya(who is worshipped in the form of Yoni). No devotees are allowed inside the temple. No male priest is permitted to enter the main sanctum and serve the Goddess during Ambubachi.Only the female priests serve the Goddess, and nobody except the female priests can witness the services. The Kamakhya Temple of Visakhapatnam also have similar time periods, where men devotees are not allowed.
4.Linga Bhairavi Temple,Coimbatore:In this temple, men are strictly forbidden.Even the priest of the temple is a woman.
5.Trayambakeshwar temple,Nasik,Maharashtra: Once, women weere not allowed in this temple. But to maintain gender equality, men are also not allowed.

How do you the entire issue wrong, Ayyappa is a Nastik Brahmacharya, which translates to eternal celibacy , this is not some misogynistic rule that's directed at women. People practicing that way of life require that you don't come in contact with women who are of reproductive age, this is not based upon some misogynistic rule or stigma associated with menstruation, there's a temple in Assam (Kamakhya ) that has an entire traditional worship based on the bleeding . Sabrimala rule isn't negatively discriminatory against a particular gender, and it never says no women can enter that premise, it has specified an age group and the tradition related to it. That being said Haji Ali committee said it is a sin for women to come in proximity to the mosque in the dargha that's what I call discriminatory. That being said if you are religious it's a matter of faith and belief and not logic.
So u want temple to believe that Ayyappa is not eternal celibate? There were women protest against that decision. There are temples in Kerala that are exclusive to women and during it's celebration men are not allowed to roam the streets. Aren't we supposed to protect the tradition unique like that? How's Sabrimala different?

About the elections in the Sabarimala area, the elections happened in June way before the Sabarimala issue. I feel the comments in the video about the Sabarimala stance of BJP not helping them in elections doesn't hold true. Myself being a Keralite, it is not true about the info in the video which states women aren't allowed in their rooms or in the kitchen during their periods. Another mistake in your video is that there is no ban on women in Padmanabhaswami temple. anyone visiting should wear sari for women and dhoti for men. There is no gender inequality in the case of Sabarimala. Even today, the women who tried or are fighting to get into the shrine are not even devotees of the deity. They just want to make a point. these kind of issues are degrading the holiness of the shrine reducing it to an object for politics.

The other important shrines of Swami Ayyappan are Achankovil, Peermedu, Aryankavu, Kolathupuzha of which Aryankavu too do not permit women in their menstruating age. Since this temple does not attract devotees in the order of Crores, this is not made controversial.
On the other hand, a popular sarpa Temple at Mannarshala (Haripad, Alleppey Dist) does not allow entry to men. Even the priest is a woman there. The reason is, this temple as with Sabarimala and Aryankavu, follows a unique custom. It would beq quite juvenile for a man to argue that it is against male rights. Hence please perceive them in the right perspective.

I am a Bengali Woman. I was in Munnar, Kerala at the time when Sabrimala, Women- issue was at its peak. There was huge protest on women of certain age band not allowed to enter temple.
Abd my own un-doctored response was, why is that even an issue. If that is the Temple rule, it should be followed. Its a religious belief, that does not harm anybody. Even being a woman I did not find that was discriminatory against Women. So many Hindu rituals, only women can practice. Do we find that discrimination against men? I did find it very wrong of the women activists rallying to enter the temple. I was disturbed by this blatant attack on the Temple rule. Even Muslim women were raising voice against the Temple Rule..
I found even then it as an attack on my Religion.
This was and still is my own self thought.
Good to see many hold similar opinion.

Hey bisbo ! Its been only a day I've subscribed you. Today I came to see this video. Being a malayali I know much more about sabarimala than you knew from articles or channel debates. First of all sabarimala is a unique shrine while comparing with other temples. One who is going to sabarimala have to face various difficulties and finally reaching sannidhanam where God ayyappa is. Women from age up to 12 or before menstruation starts and after 50 yo are allowed to enter sabarimala. They are called as malikappurams. Each and every women in the house of an ayyappa devote respects the religious laws. Not anyone are forced not to do or their constitutional rights aren't depleted. The ones whom entered or trying to enter sabarimala right now aren't coming to there because of devotion. They just come to make fame and money or else they are atheists. But a back boneless govt in Kerala now is aiming to provide every penny of help to this kind of scumbags arriving there amid this several of them were denied to enter the temple by the devotees including men and women. This is an belief of millions of people and one such court release could deeply deplete their belief and emotionally hurt them. Is this is the Constitution amends towards an devotee moreover an individual ? Without having a precise knowledge please don't make news on this kind of articles bisby. Grow up. Don't be alike the medias whom does act as scumbag for their growth.

Agree with you. According to 'seculars'-cum-minority-vote-hunters : "Religious fundamentalism is the worst evil as long as it's the majority faith we're talking about." All Indian cultures have their share of old and somtimes, weird rituals. But what is forgotten in such cases is that a temple/mosque/church/gurudwara is not a secular place. This helps no one but those oiling their political machinery.

Forgetting tradition is like forgetting our rich history , sabarimala has a rich back story . sabarimala is a place we're men devote their life to God from the worldly pleasures . Sabarimala is the only temple which follows such a tradition . There are many ayyappa temple in Kerala were women's are allowed to enter . Court ordered to release the ban considering it as forbidding Right of equality. our constitution has certain rules which says that judiciary can have no right in religious tradition which does not harm anyone.

  • @adarshka5431
    @adarshka5431 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Dear Friend, I just wanted to point out something wrong in this video. The part where you showed about women facing discrimination based on menstruation at 2:54 is totally wrong. No women in Kerala faces such restrictions. If anything Kerala is the state in India with least chances for such things. People in Kerala don't even think about menstruation in such a way.Its not considered impure. It was the supreme court which brought in menstruation in the case.
So do proper research before adding such quotes in your future videos. It's kind of like defaming the place with false information.
And to people who call keralites fools for protesting when others try to reform their culture and tradition, just look at what's happening in western Europe. No community wants their traditions and culture to be changed for the convenience of outsiders. PEACE

@Bisbo, choosing this sensitive topic itself is a very bad decision. And you have got all the facts wrong, you can see that in the number of dislikes you have got for this video.
Every temples have got it's own rules based on the way it is built, the kind of deity, the kind of rituals performed.
In most of temple menstruating woman are prevented from entering, not because that they are impure. It is believed that the vibration that is present in the temple is not good for menstruating women.
Beliefs doesn't have logics, it has only got sentiments, hence it is unfair to legally challange any beliefs.
Remember this, secularism cannot be practiced in religious places. Because no one will tolerate if someone practices religion in secular places. Any Religion by default is not secular and cannot be secular!!!!!

Bisbo .... you disappointed me big time. Your subject research and attempts on pronouncing certain local words had the same trait - lousy and poor. To start with which bye elections are you talking about which was held in Kerala in Dec? Yes there were local body elections in October or something and if I am not wrong the figure of parties winning the seats is wrong. Even if agree that the fictitious bye elections indeed took place and you said BJP ‘won only 2 seats’ then also its better than the one seat they already have in the assembly. Before I say anything I want to thank you for all the content, Bisbo. I continue to enjoy and learn from your channel on things. 🙂 But on this I disagree.
Traditions that don't violate fundamental rights like life, education, space should be left alone because for the devotees the deity is a living entity and a virgin boy (brahmachari) but to non-believers of the tradition (like the SC judges too) it's just a public place.
So the SC perspective is not fair to the devotees. The woman who tried to enter with sanitary pads was there clearly to disrespect.
There are temples men can't enter. There are schools boys can't get admission in, and there are schools girls can't get admission in.
There are other schools, and there are other temples. To do things as per your whim isn't a fight for rights.
The bad part is the SC of a secular nation failed to see this distinction which tells what a cursory knowledge they seem to have of what constitutes a right.

This video is so misleading who said u guys that women in traditional kerala home are not allowed to kitchen and bedroom till their period is over who said that women are not allowed to sripadmanabha swami temple.this video shows that keralites still living 17th century but the truth is that the most reformed and one of the 100% educated states of the country is kerala
And coming to entry to sabarimala the court may give the verdict as india is a secular democratic country but the thing is that I see my fellow brothers and sister were deeply hurt bcoz there custom and tradition more over there believe has been being destroyed.
The real reason why women are restricted in sabarimala is that lord ayyapa was a bramachari, diety and celibate yogi so for entering to a temple like that one should follow custom that their lord has followed atleast for 41 days it's their believe. The pilgrimage period is a period they have a lot things to do in 41 days like poojas etc and I have seen them doing with a great devotion
    And coming to menstrual matters
According to religious beliefs at the time of periods women are not supposed to enter any temple, mosque , church or any worshipping place or do any kind of worship it is same in hindu, islam, christianity(idk about other religions) so how women suppose to enter sabarimala when get periods at every 30 days so try respect it as it's religious beliefs
India is a country which exist with alot of culture and traditions and religious beliefs I agree there are alot of unwanted customs and cliche way treating women are still there and some ideologies on how a good typical Indian women or girl should be.focus on that rather than slamming on someone's believe in the form of reform .reform are needed in many other aspects of society how they look in to a independent women.we still need to go a far more on basis of education, work, safety of women in our country
pampa is not a picnic spot we have alot more spots in kerala for picnic rather than making pampa one and in your video u said women in kerala are suppose to look after child when men go for sabarimala no it's not true we can go to work, college and so on infact women doing it
Next time when u do another video study well about it rather uttering some blunders about our life it may create misconcepts about us to others

If you stand by truth, please leave this comment and prove me wrong. I am posting facts. I can add source if someone wants to know. Not adding now so that my comment won't get treated as spam.
As others mentioned, Padmanabha Swami temple at 5:30 allows everyone. This temple along with many others actually discriminates against men by forcing them to go topless while women can enter fully clothed without issues. For those who are not familiar with Kerala history, everyone were forced to be topless 100 years ago. Women fought against it and won, while men still can't.
Also, Rehana Fathima (not a Muslim) who was accompanying Kavitha at 0:30 was the reason tantris also got involved in protest. Rehana is an atheist who frequently mocks religion (she mocks both Hindus and Muslims). She is currently in jail for insulting religious beliefs. Hundreds of devotees and the tantris all got involved only after realizing she was with Kavita. Also, Kavitha never faced stone pelting as far as I know. She wanted to go to the temple in evening itself, to which the police objected and offered to take her the next day morning. The stone throw reportedly happened to the new york times journalist (in her ny report, she mentions that they hurled rocks even though the live tv report mentioned only one stone). Personally, I don't see any issue with the stone throwing because these foreign media journalists didn't come to Kerala when the floods happened. Now they want to report about the evil Hindu patriarchy finally learning civilization. Also, the animation of repeatedly showing rock throwing will give false impression to the uninformed.
At 2:07, you say "so unpopular among the devotees was this decision that even some women took to the streets blocking the path of reformists". First of all, its not some women. Its 1000s of women. In some protests, over 50000 people showed up including a huge number of women. One famous person said in TV that the men of Kerala are a failure because the mom's had to take to the streets to protect their beliefs.
And they are not "reformers". Almost all of them were atheists or communist party members (who are atheists by default). They have no business in what religion should or shouldn't do. Hindus should have been consulted while making this decision instead of forcing it down our throats, that too by atheists. If the tradition must be broken (after all it's the Supreme Court verdict), it should be done by an 11 year old girl from a proper Hindu family with the permission of everyone. Not some activist.
At least one of the women who originally filed the petition at 4:48)now regrets doing it. Also, its worth mentioning that high court criticized the state government for the way they handled the arresting over 4000 in just one or two days. And more scary is the fact that police used face detection software to target people who participated in the protests, a sign of things on what to expect in our country?
Regarding Rehna's arrest, BBC reported that she was arrested for showing her body. She was arrested because she openly mocked Hindus (and also Muslims in the past) while being an atheist. like seriously first in the olden days the tradition was put on because there should be no difficulty for women to walk or travel during their menstruation but now women can bear it but these people show inferiority through tradition and custom. don't we have the right to visit a majestic temple? yes, we do because the constitution approved it overriding any tradition, caste creed. and it is so inferior of the people to think that menstruated women cant enter just because that measly lord Indra made it a curse. I am telling you that any of these inferior devotees wouldn't have been born if women didn't menstruate which helped to giving birth to kids

@@herbalifewellnesscoachkeer2852 you don't know anything about the temple. The whole story is different. Woman not being allowed in sabarimala is not because of the belief menstruation is impure. But because of the belief that the lord ayappa at sabarimala is someone who practices strict celibacy. Moreover its not a tourist spot. One goes there because he believes in that temple. If you don't respect the belief in that temple, then why go there in the first place ??. There are lots of hill stations where you can show to physical and trekking competence whilst enjoying the scenery as well !!

Dear Bisbo I think you must research deeply before posting a video. It is because of the nature of the diety of the Sabarimala temple that the women are not allowed to enter the temple. The diety was a Brahmachari and so he is supposed to live away from women. If any temple authority is not allowing women to enter on the basis of discrimination then it must be uprooted but here the nature of the diety is such that we have to maintain it's privacy. The supreme court does not consider this thinking of diety's privacy as it does not fit in their constrained laws. Also let me tell you this that there are many temples in Karnataka and many other states where men are not allowed to enter. Should men start protesting? No, we must respect the nature of the diety being worshipped. Please research thoroughly by considering all the aspects and then make a video so that people will understand the topic correctly without creating confusions. Also do watch the video of Sadhguru on Sabarimala temple you will get your answers there if what I have said is bothering you and stay away from fake Feminists.

Try to understand the meaning of 18 steps in Sabarimala.
Those who have completed minimum 41 days Vratha(this vratha is also applicable for family members in house) can only foot on the 18 steps. 41 days of vratha is a routine by keeping panchasudhi. Without vratha and with usual temple cleanliness practice, all devotees can visit sabarimala for just praying without foot on 18 steps.
The 41 days strict routine, after this routibe his mind and body will be clear and ready for gaining knowledge, and the final self-assessment of understanding the meaning of 18 steps at temple. Then seeing and receiving the blessings from the guru of every guru's - sri ayyappa.
This is the wonderful spiritual practice in Sabarimala.
    The 18 steps meaning:
The first five steps represents 'Panchendriyas', which are the five human senses such as eye, ear, nose, skin and mouth. The next eight steps represents "Ashtaragas' which includes Kama (desire), Krodha (anger), Lobha (inordinate desire), Moha (attachment), Madha (pride), Matsarya (unhealthy competition), Asuya (jealousy) and Dhumb (braggy). The next three steps represents 'Thrigunas' or the three qualities of Sathva, Rajas and Thamas. The final two steps indicates Vidya (knowledge) and Avidya (ignorance of knowledge).
