    Hey Robby. Love the part where you say "there's no way I'm going to sit here and not run trains."
    Good video.

    A very good tutorial on programming a DCS and a Legacy system. Explained very thorough. Thank you for your help and input. I just got my Legacy FA AA NYC set with a Powered B unit home. What I do is program each unit individually and then when I put them together I use a lash up. Then if I want to add more engines , I can just add more to the lash up. Right now I have 8 RF-16 Baldwins Legacy units lashed together and they all run smoothly. I also have 3 TMCC Aleghany steam engines lashed together and they run smooth too. I'm using the Cab 2 remote.

    I'm soo confused. Is DCC the same thing as DCS? I really believe Lionel designers dropped the ball on all of this confusion regarding how to run trains. Bad idea in my opinion.

    Those look like Banana connectors to me, so instead of screwing in wires to the terminals, audio Banana cables would work and look neater!

    Very nice video, my question, I have DCS 4.3 version and Legacy 1.6 version. Hooked up them by DCS 50-1032 cable. Added TMCC engine to DCS remote and can't control the TMCC engine. It because old version of DCS remote? Thank you

  • @Broncort1
    @Broncort1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Although I haven’t had this problem myself, I’m hearing persistent rumors that the signals from both systems fight each other and it’s possible you will lose control of your MTH engine, especially if you have 2 or 3 Lionel engines and one MTH engine.

    Thanks thats good to hear!
    DCS version 4.3 for remote & TIU and Legacy version 1.52 for base and cab2 remote. New versions still have the same set-up, just they have some additional features mine do not. (i.e. Wi-Fi control for DCS and paragraph controls for Legacy).

    Just as a word of advice, you don't want to go above 18 volts for power on your locomotives as it will make the electronics inside of the locomotive and DCS system wear out faster.

    • @ghost_pine_film_productions
      @ghost_pine_film_productions  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Except 18 volts is the standard power for three rail o scale. The DCS, LEGACY, and all DCS, TMCC, or LEGACY equipped locomotives have on board resistors to lower the voltage and amperage per the electronics requirements.

  • @2railnation
    @2railnation 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you ever wonder why your engines stop working it's because you're giving it too much power. 18V is all you need and no more than 19V.

    Do you know if this method will work with Lionel’s Cab-1L remote and Base-1L? I’m trying this method right now and my MTH engine tries to run in conventional mode with no sounds. My DCS remote is on version 4.20
    Edit:Never mind that, I narrowed it down to loose wiring. Have both my MTH and Lionel engines running on the same track. Thank you for the tutorial!

    Robby,
    I just found your video and watched it because I'm going to be doing the exact same thing. It's nice to know that both MTH and Lionel can be ran on the same track. I also found out from watching Eric of "Eric's Trains" here on youtube that TMCC, which I have now, can be ran by the DCS remote. Thanks for the instructional video.

    Very nice easy to understand and follow tutorial. I have use a Lionel ZW-L, MTH DCS to power three separate loops that do not connect or crossover with each other. Two loops are DCS while one I left Conventional. I assume I would need 3 wires coming from the common on Lionel Legacy with two going to output on DCS and the third going to the conventional track, is that correct? Thanks.

    How do you run Conventional engines with this hook up? I have a lot of older engines and I run them also.
    So how do you run Conventional with your Legacy and MTH?

    • @ghost_pine_film_productions
      @ghost_pine_film_productions  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a way to hook up DCS to run conventional engines, but I'm not to sure about Legacy. I will be doing a video on that likely in January or February.

  • @kerrykeehn1694
    @kerrykeehn1694 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m thinking about adding Legacy to my DCS system and your video is very informative and helpful, my question is when you have 2 loops of track, connected with 2 crossovers, do you need a DPDT center off switch to separate both loops? DCS engines get its information through the track and Lionel gets it direct to the engine.
    Why did you use the throttle for track 2 ( green lamp side) as opposed to track 1 ( red lamp side)
    Thanks in advance
    Kerry

    • @ghost_pine_film_productions
      @ghost_pine_film_productions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You dont need to separate the loops, DCS and Legacy units work together on the same track at the same time with no interference. I'm not sure why I used track 2's side, I just picked a side and went with it hehehe. I'm glad to hear this video was informative, and I hope it helps you in setting up your systems! I highly recommend adding Legacy to your layout, it is definitely worth it.

      Yes I think so. I’ve started acquiring LionChief plus with Bluetooth and I have the Legacy Pennsy F3 AA coming and I hoping to get the Legacy H10 Coal hauler set from NICHOLAS SMITH, I just have to justify the price in my head. I’m going to call Joey tomorrow and see if he’ll just sell me the H10. Thanks again. By the way just for your information, I’m not young, I’m 73 and have been playing with trains for 50+ years, and I believe your never to old to learn. Have a good night.

    Sean, just received my 990 today, and I noticed there’s 2 blue upgrade modules, one to upgrade the base to V1.6 and the Remote to V1.6 , so my question is do you do this before you pair the 2 systems together or after. Thanks.

    • @ghost_pine_film_productions
      @ghost_pine_film_productions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it comes down to whether you want/need the latest version. I'm running mine on an older version, and didn't upgrade before I hooked everything up.
