you said it perfectly Frank. Totally underrated and such a gorgeous vehicle. I've been daily driving it since the beginning of June, regardless of the weather. Thanks for watching!
When i was looking for my first and propab. last Roadster i wanted to try MX-5 as well. Honestly the first time i tried Z4 2,5Si, I decided in the moment that i need that and nothing else. This R6 engine is just amazing, cant imagine driving MX-5. It has perfect combination between weight, power, and inner space.
Greetings from Germany from another bearded E85 driver, and thanks for your nice introduction of yours. It is like a timemachine from a happier era and always a pleasure to enjoy the inline 6 in that tiny body.
Thank you for watching! Also, i have a random question for you. How fast have you had your Z4 on the amazing German highways that you have access to? Not that I promote or enjoy excessive speed or fast driving, but I'm curious how it handles at speeds above 90 MPH..
Funny thing about the Z4, it really looks so much better in the flesh. I was getting my work car serviced and there is a car yard close to them, I saw they had a Z4M roadster, in candy apple red. And If you do a search on youtube there are a few pieces on the history of the Z4, this design didn't come out of nowhere, it grew into this and I think it shows. I love to see the very few of any of these driving around where I live. They were considered almost ugly when they were released, I think they look better and better with every year... I look forward to watching more of you entertaining content. And I did buy that Z4M...
Man I’m glad you’re having fun. I got one about 6 mo ago in about same shape and I just upgraded to koni struts and H&R springs. This is one of the funnest cars I’ve ever owned. Now it’s even more fun! Take care.
I have a 2005 2.2 with 90kms on the clock. I have had it sitting in a shed for three years, occasionally getting a short ride (about every third Sunday afternoon). I keep thinking it needs to be sold, but every time I watch a video like this I feel that I really really really cant let it go.
Yup, old BMWs beep at you. I have that on mine as well. Must be a feature, I'm thinking an outside air temp warning, or a service indicator ?. I have a silver 3.0i 2003 6 speed manual, bought mind as a fixer-upper and the last owner left it in a poor cosmetic state, which I brought back myself. I really wanted a 3l and they are sadly becoming quite rare in the UK. The car at 20 years is still a head turner, and mine is 114k miles and still going strong. No touch screens, but still a lot of features you would find on a modern car , one of the last purely driver focused cars. The RWD is a bit more playful in the corners, when you turn off the DSC, but you do have a DTC warning light. The roof was designed with the car being taken skiing, as the car had an optional ski hatch in the boot. On the down side the window reguatros seem to go more, as the passenger side went, and the drivers side window motor went as well, the plastics on the top of the centre console seems fragile, and the run flats make it tram line on tar seams, but apart from that its a great car for the age. I tend to want to drive it more than my golf GTI :)
Awesome video GTyar. Your enthusiasm for your car is infectious brother. Good to see your video. Thank you for showing off your new roadster. Looking forward to the next video. 👍
Funny you mention that adapter, I JUST installed that a couple days ago and it works fantastically! Easy and very useful upgrade. Thank you for watching!
Finally got around to watching this, so glad you figured out the roof situation by yourself I could imagine a shop would just default to replacing the entire hydraulic system, put it back in its original spot and never touch the gutter lol. So good on ya for the utilitarian fix. Also love Chimkin and the car looks like a dream.
Yes, i was so fired up when i finally got to that hydraulic motor and extracted it from its watery tomb. Chimkin was also excited =-). Thank you for watching!
I own a BMW M4 and an E89 Z4 but picked up a 3.0i E85 last year. Beautiful car! When these were new I was just starting my career and only rich business people drove them. Now that I am a rich business guy I bought one. 😀 For about $400 you can get the LED halo headlights. They really make the car look like a modern BMW. Thanks for the video!
I have a 2006 Z4 2.5i automatic with a manual roof. There were 2 on sale at BMW when I bought it in 2008 and I chose the manual roof because I know all electric roofs on cars are a PITA and go wrong. It’s well worth using the proper coatings on the roof fabric to protect against UV. I absolutely love my Z4 too. I need to do a detail as well as fix stone chips on it soon (wash, polish, wax, buff, etc). Defo get some new headlights. Those are done. Apparently you can get non OEM replacements for about $400. I’m lucky, mine are showing no wear.
@@subhumanaudio I use soap and water to clean the top wash, rinse, let it thoroughly dry. Once dry I use BMW’s soft top protectant or you can also use 3M boat fabric protectant (303 spray) [I’ve used both]. The 303 spray is strong so I usually water it down a bit and let it soak in. Make sure to mask off all other surfaces [windows, rear window etc] and wipe off any overspray because once it dries it becomes waterproof and it shows up on waxed surfaces. Leave the car out to dry in UV light to make the stuff seal and bond. I’ve found it works really well and I typically do it every year.
Have a look underneath you’re heater dials that’s were I found my aux input when I was cleaning my z4 I don’t know if the pre facelifts have them hope this helps good luck with ur new Z4 👍🏼
I got the ipod conversion done on mine from BMW. I have an ipod constantly plugged into the car. If I need navigation from my phone, I use one of those radio transmitter things and plug it into he cigar socket. Then just use the radio. I like to keep it as clean and simple as possible.
The beep I think is if you have something on the passenger seat it sets the seat belt alarm off but only one beep, mine does but yours might be for something else. Or the reverse sensors sometimes beep. My rocker gasket is leaking so going to fix that. I purchased cup holders and put them in myself…..dead easy 2 screws. I’m not sure if you are a fan or if you think the car has a sporty enough sound but look up TH-cam “Z4 backbox delete” something you might want. I did it and it’s the best sound ever. But you are right what you say about the driving of the car. It’s an absolute pleasure to drive and hugs the road exceptionally well. Best BMW ever I recon 👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks for the intel Garry! I'm very curious about this backbox delete... I'm definitely going to check that out. If i could make the burble i hear even louder, that would be pure magic. I love your enthusiasm for your car! Also great to hear that the cupholders are easy to replace, I might try and tackle that project next.
You realize that each headlight costs $1,500.00. Finding a good used one is also difficult. What I did was reseal the housing and polish off the headlight. BTW, I also have a black Z4, but I have a 6-speed ZF manual, which is a bit notchy. Good luck with your Z.
yeaaaa.. I knew that drilling into the housing was foolish, but I have my eyes set on an aftermarket set of headlights that are about $400 each, so ill be changing them out next summer. In the mean time i did polish each headlight so at least now the UV damage is gone and the light is able to pass through clearly. Thank you for watching!
@@gtyar4395I know which aftermarket headlights you’re talking about (they’re all made by the same factory in China) because their beam pattern is straight up garbage
Enjoyed the show & tell, truly not much work do be done on a 20 year old car. Glad you got the roof working :) The Turbine wheels are lovely, maybe a refurb at some point? I got mine done about 8 years ago and it was so worth it, although mine are not the Turbine style and are tricky to clean, probably the slowest part of a basic wash. Shame about the headlights, I think they are beyond a refurb with all the oxidisation and the leak issue you had, maybe a nice clean used set can be acquired? The engine bay is so clean and the underside looks incredible too. There's so much to love about the e85 and anytime I watch any videos I just want to get out and drive mine. Regarding the bleep, mine sometimes does it on start up and I have no idea why either? but it will do it when the temp outside is low and the temp LED reading flashes to warn of possible icy conditions which is good. Enjoy the car during the months ahead, I live in Ireland so the summers are short, just nice to get the roof down and hear that raspy straight 6 and the wind in your hair.
Thank you for your intel Mick! Yes, this e85 really is amazingly clean, aside from the headlights of course. I do agree about the headlights, they are too far gone to try and rehab. I am actually looking for replacements on ebay, but will most likely wait till the end of summer before acquiring anything. Also, the Turbine wheels are definitely in need of a repaint, which i will also take care of once summer is over. I'm so in love with these wheels by the way, so unique and striking, and ultra easy to clean. Thank you for your support and I hope your enjoying your summer in Ireland!
Hi great video, I have one of these, I got it December last year, and been loving the summer months with the roof down, as winter is coming it will have to be covered as I don't have a garage, the only thing that really bothers me is no spare wheel well, Ive fitted 19" GTR Momo racing alloys and they do look amazing, yes the smell of the cockpit is always there,, I am a smoker but never in the car, I want to keep hold of it forever, you do get looks from other drivers, and I started getting flashes from other Z4 drivers, like a nod and a wink from them saying, yeah, we know what is all about, love the interior you've done on this, looks sweet, my one is grey and I must say I love the color, its very 007 looking lol, talking of speed bumps and pot holes, which we have a lot of on UK roads, I've had the dash warning lights on a few times where the indicator bulbs became loose, but I've cured that now, I will have to do a video like this, youve inspired me, and glad to find someone who loves this car as much as I do, it sure is a a demon look, much love bro ❤
Don’t worry about a spare wheel. Just take a tire plug kit (gummy worm type), small tire inflator with you and get roadside coverage. It’s rare to get a puncture.
It has buttons and knobs. No screen. It's a manual. Enjoy! Take care of it. Um, great Bass Pro Shop sticker in the trunk! Ha ha, unexpected. Ive got a manual Z4 too. Well, I borrowed it at first, then it became mine. Now it's in my garage. I just saw a video where a guy installed Bluetooth in dash to the "Business" Stereo. It hides in there unseen. Tasteful without taking the style of the original look. Yep she’s low😑😑😑😑😑😑😑😑 I’ve bought the large plastic splash guard for under the motor, stops wet spray coming up into the botttof the engine bay but being low…..
