      Was Dwight really that good? He was raw and unskilled. Super athletic. But he wasn’t a winner. Couldn’t shoot. Couldn’t dribble. Weaker conference. His back went out before he turned 30. You guys taking five good years and thinking it’s enough to justify an all time career when he didn’t win anything during that time.
      When he lost some of those pieces around him, his game faltered because he’s not a great basketball player.
      Who was worried about Dwight after he left Orlando?

      And so do u. And so does any fan. And so does any person u don't agree with. I don't care that grown ass men making millions don't like it when they get critiqued so they just sat here and had a cry session about it. U wanna be a superstar player. U want the superstar money. U think you're better than some other superstars then take what comes with that superstar status. They don't want an analyst who never played to critique them but a couch potato watching the game they respect more?? Bullshit they just pissed. That airplane analogy Gil gave was spot on. The analysts have the same exact view as the fans. They should not be allowed to vote on anything. The should let veteran players only vote for MVPs, and things of that nature.

    • @JamesKlass79
      @JamesKlass79 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      It goes both ways. Cuz they don't have a problem when the media votes them to all nba teams, MVPs and hall of fame. If the pilot crashes the plane(the player is a bust) it doesn't matter the hours of flight time you crashed. I get both sides. It just comes off like players and ex players only want compliments and praise when we all know it's different levels of pilots or players.

    • @enamweaknopahknop9661
      @enamweaknopahknop9661 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think the league should give the players and coaches to vote with media vote as well. Be like coaches 1/4, players 1/4, and the rest can be the media. Then add some general fair play into the mix. That should be the most well balanced way or become agenda vote.
      That LeBron not being unanimous MVP one was spiteful no matter what. Dwight not winning another as well.
      The media suddenly become the gatekeepers of the greats. Why the fuck does a player need to be acknowledge by some bums who just don’t want them to replace their favorite player? That just ain’t right.

When an athlete doesn't perform well for whatever reason, then gets criticized you never hear them talk about giving the fans their money back. You take away the fans in their money and let's see how many athletes love their sport enough to do it for free.

      I think you missed what they’re getting at. Fans don’t have the level of detail to understand the nuance of a players career. But fans can influence ASG voting, for example, which can then inform a players salary negotiations. That’s not right.
      You can have all the opinion you want. But that shouldn’t impact how a player is paid and regarded in his career. Dwight Howard is seen, or will be seen, as less than because media idiots left him off the Top 75 team. That informs Dwight’s resume moving forward and how he can/could be paid.

      Truth is, former NBA players have at least as horrendously bad takes on basketball, as analysts who haven't played in the NBA. Don't believe me? Watch one show of Gil's Arena, and there will be one abysmally bad basketball take by a former player, guaranteed.

      @@penkima4923 I’m not defending terrible takes from former players; however, there are older players who think the Dream Team could beat the 2012 Supreme Team. You can at least blame a player’s take from their personal opinion, having done the training, studied film (with coaches), and seen generations of professionals via open runs, NBPA meetings etc. How does that compare to Jason Whitlock saying that Jordan is the GOAT because of 6-0? Bayless saying LBJ has no clutch gene? SAS saying that if LBJ loses another Finals, he can’t be the GOAT?
      And these media members have too much power in that they vote for awards that inform salaries. That means that likability or lack thereof (see Westbrook) by the voting media can inform All-Star, All-NBA, and All-Defensive awards. That is wrong.
      The media is to blame for LBJ not having a DPOY. LBJ doesn’t have 5 MVPs because of “voter fatigue” despite dominant seasons in 2011 and 2018.
      These affect LBJ’s standing in the basketball pantheon. And that effect comes from ppl who could a) barely draw or understand a basketball play and b) are subject to 0 accountability for their words or hot takes.

    I mean there's a lot of things where someone isn't actually a professional in the profession but is a professional critiquer or analyzer of it. From movies, food, books heck if you do a bad enough job they'll put you in front of a judge and have a bunch of joe blows take away your ability to continue in that profession. I'm not really against that point though. But to me some of what they said here is just playing in people face. You have more regard for a die hard fan than an analyst. The latter is actually trying to watch as many games as possible and look up the history and learn the technical language of the game but you pass them up for the former. Not only that you said they have the same view so at any point both opinions can easily be dismissed as you didn't play the game. I think it's really analyst have a lot of say and players are against that but lets be honest players when it comes to voting be on some bs. Vote their friends or teammates some players barely watch other games as well. This also is coming from a man like Gil who I barely ever hear give Wilt Chamberlain any credit and there's factual stories of Wilt playing with college players against NBA players in pickup games and giving them buckets and blocks and winning the games. Unlike some ppl I dont just swallow whatever yall say just cause yall said it.

      Stephen A only failure as an analyst is going along the hate culture with Skiup. Shoulda draw the line and said nope, we are appreciating not hating, but that green paper is just too good for him to say no.
      From time to time, Stephen A say good stuff, but when JJ Redick sit opposite to him in basketball related stuff, oh boy, he look retarded sometime borderline goofy. It’s first time I thought that must be how every player thought if we really talk basketball with them. I thought I love basketball, but only diehard and those guys who were they can relate.

    Dang Gil, would like y’all to do a play by play breakdown of games. Explain why a player did something because as a fan sometime I don’t see what that player saw or knew. It would be awesome to have commentators do that during the game. Let one station do the game and then do a TH-cam or something where the plays are broke down, explain what the scouting report said and such. Kenyans break down of Duncan was nice, do that for other players. Either way keep up the good work.
