Every ATARI JAGUAR Game Ranked From WORST TO FIRST By The Critics

- The Atari Jaguar was released in November of 1993 in North America and was Atari’s final home console. It sold poorly, and by 1996, the Atari Jaguar was discontinued.
But that’s not to say there weren’t great Atari Jaguar Games! With 50 officially licensed games for the Jaguar and another 13 for the Jaguar CD add on. That makes 63, but Iron Soldier 2 was released both on the CD and cart so we'll count that entry together. That makes 62 games and we’re ranking all 62 Atari Jaguar games from worst to first!
Now, let’s get one thing straight! These aren’t my rankings. I’ve put this list together based on the median score of each game after scouring the internet for magazine articles and old reviews. The passages that I read are also from these reviews so direct that anger toward them, not me!
And if you like complete console libraries ranked, make sure you hit that sub button as other consoles are in the works and I already have the Master System library ranked with all 273 games!
I’m celebrating the Atari Jaguar as I look back on all 62 Atari Jaguar games released starting with…. The worst….

I didn't even know there was a Double Dragon V, lol. I loved the first 3.
I've been meaning to play Space Ace, but not because it's great, haha.
Club Drive = Sleeping Pill, rofl. Perfect description.
Why would you pay for the rights to "White Men Can't Jump" without using any imagery from that IP?!? Crazy!
Huh, I hadn't heard of "Brain Dead" but it looks like there could be some interesting moments in there. Maybe I'll have to check it out.
Atari Karts was too bad. It looks technically up to the challenge, but lacks soul. So sad.
I did play Raiden a little, and it looks like one I could see enjoying... once or twice at least.
How is Highlander rated so highly? Interesting. I guess it is technically impressive.
I think I'll stick to Descent over Hover Strike ;)
Cybermorph does look pretty good. I loved the original Star Fox, so I can stand a low poly flier if it's done right.
I never realized Myst was on the Jaguar, lol.
Whoa, Breakout 2000 looks kinda awesome in 2-player mode. I played old 2D brick breakers, and this looks like a cool upgrade.
I love Zool 2, but yeah, I see no reason not to play it for MSDOS.
I've never loved any soccer game I've played (even newer titles), so I think I'll pass on Fever Pitch Soccer, lol.
Towers 2 looks pretty good. Maybe I'll have to check it out.
Power Drive looks like a lot of fun!
Baldies look awesome! I'll have to play that!
Huh, I wonder why people rated Val d'Isere Skiing so highly? Weird.
I like Theme Park, but I wonder if the Jaguar port is any different/better in any way
NBA Jam was huge when I was a kid, but I never loved it. Guess they needed a politician C-Span skin, lol
I do love Worms, but again it makes me wonder if the port offers much extra/diff.
Whoa, Battle Morph does look good!
DANG! Wolfenstein 3D looks awesome! I never knew there was a version that was that much better! How is GOG still porting the old PC version when this is out there?!?
Iron Soldier 1-2 look really cool too!
I do love the original Rayman!
I'd never seen gameplay of Tempest 2000 before. I didn't quite understand it. I may have to experiment with that one.
I love hearing about all these old games I never bumped into because I didn't know people with these consoles!
This was such a fun project to put together to learn the history and library of the Jaguar. Overall, there's a handful of really solid games that would be fun to play. As you mentioned, Wolfenstein 3D looks awesome and as huge fan of that game, I would have loved it on a home console. They even updated it with new weapons which is cool. I don't think I'll ever purchase a Jaguar, but I'll definitely play one if I get the chance. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment buddy!
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames i have to disagree with you in placement of these games:
-Super Burnout is a fantastic racing game that offer high sence of speed ,tight controls ,wise racer selcting and astonishing framerate that boosts the fun experience.
-Atari karts is a real fun game to play espesially at the time ,it has a great graphics ,smooth control ,beautiful music in my opinion it can be better than mario kart (snes) at some point
-bubsy fructured furry tales was not a cool experience to the platformer genre due to the bad and confusing level design ,the cheap enemy placement ,awkward controls and the one shot instant death in bubsy's HP.
-Cannon fodder was a descent game but it doesn't utilise the jaguar pontential including many other ports like syndicate they suit more to be on Amiga consoles.
There is still more but i said to much to read so this sould be more than enough ,and if you read this whole i will sub.
@@MeattWeapon4 I make sure that I read each and every one of the comments I receive! I loved your input on everything and it was awesome to hear how you'd rank them along with your thoughts on the games. I think Atari Karts would be a fun one to revisit, I thought the background environments were gorgeous in it. Thanks for watching, always fun to interact with more gaming fans!

Skyhammer by Rebellion is the Jaguar's Descent style game
I've been a Jaguar fan and owner since 95 and at one point had a full set before selling some off, have about 50 left. My personal favorite is Skyhammer but thats an after release that isn't in the video. But the game that got the most play out of me as a kid was Pinball Fantasies. I remember buying Tempest 2000 brand new at Kaybee Toys for $5 but I just never got into it and never felt it was the greatest game by any means like many people think, I guess it just wasn't my style
Wow, that's cool you had a full set! I understand selling some off it off, but to have 50 is still impressive. I hadn't heard of Skyhammer but as you mentioned that came after the life cycle. I'll have to check it out. Pinball games can be really fun, that's cool that you enjoyed it a ton. Many people love Tempest 2000 that's for sure. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
I have a full set and have played them all. I would say Double Dragon V is the worst. Most of the bad ones in the video I agree with. Don't think Blue Lightning is that bad. Don't dislike Kasumi Ninja either. Would also rank Atari Karts a bit higher. Bubsy is sooo hard and unforgiving, but I liked it after sticking with it. Missile Command 3D also is worth a 7 or more I would say. Same goes for Raiden, Dragon and Super Burnout.
Wow, a full set! You have quite the collection. Double Dragon V looks very slow and repetitive. Blue Lightning looked fairly good in my opinion so I was surprised to see the critics didn't care for it. Agreed with Atari Karts, whether it was a clone or not, I'm sure it could be quite fun. The other games you mention are all ones I would definitely give a shot and at try my hand at. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
@@TigerChainsawVideoGamesATD admit they had no idea what they were doing with Blue Lightning.
I think it gets a lot of Flak, as it's a CD title.
Love World Tour Racing, even though the framerate is bad. Zero 5 however, is a total pass for me. Would rank Power Drive a bit higher. Looks good and plays very well. Syndicate is a pass for me. Val-d'Isere is pronounced very differently ;). This version of NBA Jam TE is great. Also love Vid Great. Fantastic music selection! Battle Morph is indeed great too. I would rank this version of Doom a lot lower. No music makes it so much worse to play. I also think Alien vs Predator isn't as great as people say. It isn't terrible, but very repetitive.
Power Drive stuck out to me immediately. I would be hooked with that game. LOL I knew I was taking a risk trying to pronounce Val d'Isere.... Oh well, I gave it a shot. Vid Grid seems so unique and I like the concept behind it. BattleMorph seems like a great upgrade over Cybermorph. I have heard others complain about the lack of music in Doom. AVP is one I'd love to try for myself.
@@TigerChainsawVideoGamesAVP has sadly dated very badly.
Jane Whittaker killed the frame rate with his awful, spaghetti A. I code running on the 68000.
Game itself has some serious flaws, those bloody acid blood puddles really should of had a timer on them, so they dissappeared after a set period.
Awesome video Seth! I love the atari Jaguar and just recently bought Cannon Fodder since it's the game of the month for this month. I need to buy more games for it, still not sure if I'll ever complete the entire set tho.
My guy, mark! I didn't know you loved the Jaguar, that's great to hear you've been collecting for it. Cannon Fodder is one I'd love to play sometime as it seems to hold up very well. It's the type of game I could get hooked on. Best of luck collecting for it, but if someone can do it, I know it's you. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
@TigerChainsawVideoGames I only have 31 games for it, but love to add more to the collection.
I have played Tempest 2000 on the Saturn, and is amazing, with an awesome tune.
I am so curious for Vid Grid, because it is such an unique concept.
I'm happy to hear that Tempest 2000 is just as great on the Saturn! Vid Grid was a very surprising game to me, I wonder how well it has held up over time, but I like the concept of it. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
It's a testament to the quality of the Jaguar's library when the shit games stop showing up 10 minutes into a 30+ minute video. Like 2/3 of the system's library is playable at the least and enjoyable in some manner.
It certainly was! I wish more developers were able to produce games for the system, but there are some real solid experiences on the Jaguar. Thanks for watching!
Awesome compilation list! This is a console that I've never owned and looking at the prices the system and games are going for now, I probably never will lol! I know that you're reading the comments from the reviewers of back in the day and you can clearly see that some of them were totally not reviewing their preferred genre or overhyping some! Here are some example:
- Super Hang On brings nothing new to the table. Compared to what? What was it supposed to bring? It's a motorcycle racing game!
- Attack of the Mutant Penguins doesn't have enough levels with 60? How many should it have for the reviewer to be happy with?
- Iron Soldier is praised by the reviewer but I've seen many other games earlier in the vid that were graphics and sound wise!
- Tempest 2000 have graphics that were unequalled? Really? It's a cylinder shape with a triangle type of ship shape lol
Ok all gripes aside, here are the games I would have bought back in the day (without knowing the reviews you've read today) if I had the budget I have now:
- Space Ace, Dragon's Lair and Brain Dead (I always like those Saturday Morning Cartoons type of games from back then)
- Sensible Soccer, Fever Pitch, Power Drive, Brutal Sports Football, NBA Jam TE and Power Drive Rally (I always enjoyed arcade style sports games)
- Baldies, Syndicate, Worms, Cannon Fodder, Towers 2 (I like Strategy and RPG like games)
- Theme Park and Alien VS Predator (Being a Predator fan I would have bought it even if I'm not a fan of FPS games)
All in all, I know the system was crapped on but if I was a kid and it was the only console I had back then, I'm sure I would still had fun on it!
I know it's a super long comment but it was a super long vid lol! Great video and keep up the good work!
It was a blast learning about the Jaguar and the games that came out for it. While I don't think I'd ever purchase one, it was nice to appreciate some of the games for it, while understanding why many of them failed to take off. LOL I love your input on what the critics said, and you make some very good points. Seems like some of them were trashing the games just to trash them or didn't have validate reasons. LOL again at Tempest 2000 comments.
Oh boy, I wonder what you would have thought with those QTE cartoon games... Power Drive is one I really want to play along with Cannon Fodder.
Thanks for watching buddy! Always appreciate your support.
It's striking how most of these games look and sound inferior to good 16 bit games. Kinda makes the Jaguar itself pointless.
I know, I was kinda bummed at how bad most of these games are. There's a few really good games, but the majority of them suck haha. Thanks for watching!
@@TigerChainsawVideoGameshow imagitec Design managed to take a 60 fps MD title, Pitfall:Mayan Adventure and have it running at 30 fps on the Jaguar, 64-bit architecture, a 2D beast, I just don't know.
@TigerChainsawVideoGames it runs horrible off of your emulator. It's better on real hardware
Awesome video. I've never played an Atari Jaguar but I would for Tempest
Tempest seems like such a bizarre game, I think once I learn how it works, I'd be hooked. Seems like a game you can get into rhythm and have a blast with. Thanks for watching my guy!
Was hoping that Atari 50th Collection would've included: AVP, Cannon Fodder, and Syndicate. But nope. Really would like to try AVP, though I'd be more excited for AVP2 2001 to get rereleased.
Those would have been great additions to that collection. Cannon Fodder is one I really want to try for myself. AVP is another one that I think would be a blast to play. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Disney own AVP and as the people behind AVP:Extinction recently found out, they are very anti anybody re-releasing or remaking any of the old Alien /AVP Games.
Awesome video, you can tell you put a lot of hard work into these. I think the critics got Tempest 2000 wrong, that game looks terrible to me, I think Pitfall should’ve gotten higher.
I did put a lot of work into this one! I'd like to see you play Tempest 2000 just to see your facial expressions. You might actually like it, you never know. Pitfall is a very solid adventure. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Tempest 2000 is STILL considered to be one of the, if not these best Jaguar game. Just because it's not as visually impressive as other games doesn't make it an inferior game.
@@Fools_Requiem It's also the best version of Tempest 2000 - the PC port wasn't made by Llamasoft and the people that converted it missed some stuff, same with TX3 (or whatever it was called) on the playstation.
Also, on a personal note, it's one of the few games where I've hit 'the zone' with (where you're at one with the game; it's a nicely weird experience - everything just flows).
But as you say, graphics aren't everything and I would agree that it is easily the best game on the Jag.
Never had a chance to own the Atari Jaguar. Not sure there are enough games there to hold my interest but there were a couple that looked like fun. I would be interested in trying out Ray Man some time. I'm not normally good a the pure platformer type games but that one looks to be about my speed.
It was fun to learn about the library when making this video, there were some games that really peaked my interest like Cannon Fodder. Ray Man is a great game no matter if you play it on the Jaguar or another platform. It's still tough though! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Where are Protector (SE), Skyhammer, Soccer Kid and Hyper Force?
Are those official releases on the Jaguar when it was in production?
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames They were indeed. Protector was cancelled after announcement of Defender 2000 and the others after Atari's demise. They were finished and released by Songbird Productions a few years later. Just as Towers II, Zero 5, Worms and World Tour Racing, which were published by Telegames after the commercial end of the Jaguar.
How did you give Hover Strike a higher score than Unconquered lands???
Haha, that's how the scores balanced out from the critics! Thanks for watching buddy.
@@TigerChainsawVideoGames oh wait nvm that's right. I never put much stock in 90s video game magazine scores. They were always bafflingly random and heavily affected by bias
@@MelancoliaI There certainly is some truth to that!
The Jaguar's hardware had potential, but the development teams decided to go for the Nobel Prize of SUCK.
Potential is the correct word, they could have done a lot of cool stuff with it! But the games definitely fell flat. Thanks for watching!
Wow, some of this footage looks eerily similar to some of the footage on my channel...
As you can see in the top left hand corner of the video, I give credit to each channel who's footage is being shown. If your channel isn't credited, then it wasn't used.
Normally you ask@@TigerChainsawVideoGames
Pretty sure Theme Park isn't supposed to look like that! Otherwise great video 🐆
Lol, no I don't think Theme Park is supposed to look like that either, it was definitely a bit glitchy in that video. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment! Happy gaming.
The whole library except for avp and Rayman sucks huge balls. One of the worst consoles ever released for good reasons. Great video though
Whoa whoa, Wolfenstein 3D is a banger and they upgraded it from the original PC version. That is at least a solid game!
Jaguar CD has 13 games, not 12
Does it? Hmmm. Thanks for watching!
Amazing.
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
Ads ruined the video. Why so many?
Bummer! I’m not sure, I can’t control how many ads TH-cam puts in a video. Thanks for trying to watch!
Jeez your pronunciation of Non-English games FFS.
Yeah, that's not my strong suit haha. Thanks for watching though.
