What? Without bike lanes then you’d encourage more people into public transit or cars…. Or just make biking a lot more dangerous. Illegal e-bikes are a problem, but I don’t know why anyone would be against people biking. The problem isn’t biking - that’s part of the solve. I don’t have an issue if this system just tolled Ubers, Lyfts, and cabbies: the people who use these services won’t even notice the additional $9 for a $40 cab ride. And we should be encouraging more public transit use. The issue is the indiscriminate charging people without any context: it screws over people who live in Manhattan and need to get around outside the borough. It screws over commuters who may not have great alternatives, or need to travel to NYC to visit relatives or someone in hospital. Even the London system had a list of exemptions.
The Trump tariffs and congestion pricing hit these businesses at the same time is going to hurt these small businesses. If the MTA cares so much about traffic and clean air, then they should encourage employers in the city to have their employees work from home.
