+Emanda Losvek The cure, human league, depeche mode, eurythmics, pet shop boys. I still think chvrches and a lot of other new bands are an evolution, but they at least have some roots and inspiration from brit synth pop.
Kerrigan M The Cure weren't synth pop. Human League, Depeche Mode and Eurythmics were making synth pop in the early to mid 1980's with Depeche Mode having a different sound based around guitars, generally dreary, slow and contemplative sounds by the end of the 1980's. Pet Shop Boys were late 1980's synth but were generally posturing at a much lower tempo with the occasional pick up but never to the pace of Chvrches, You got it right about Chrvches being an evolution. I don't agree with you that their sound could be grouped into late 1980's synth pop although their are some links in that they have a personally empowered conviction, feel good factor that feels very genuine as if they personally worked hard to get that feeling rather than the record company manufacturing it which I think was fairly common in the 1980's unlike now.
Emanda Losvek okay then...I guess I'll correct it to "mid 80s synth". Didn't know the internet needed to be so specific. It was a general comment that was meant to be fun.
This song has an inexplicable way of making me feel happy somehow. Like that cliche hands out of the car window feel, or sitting on a bed of water, blue sky, with a breeze blowing through your hair and eyes closed.
OMG just rolling on floor in awe - and when did Lauren become such a babe, did I miss the memo on that? Chvrches really are the bomb, and congrats to all the hard and lonely studio work getting this album shipped out the darn door, and Kudos to Iain & Martin for letting Lauren shine here -- honestly you have faulted as a band for me from up there to right up there :)
Mike Downes She's always been gorgeous but I think now she's just becoming more like a star, more comfortable with all the attention on her perhaps. That's my read anyway.
Notch Jonson She definitely seems more confident onstage nowadays. At their early shows she seemed very "rabbit-in-headlights", understandable for many artists at the start of their careers. Nowadays she seems much more comfortable with everything.
My little girl and I dance to this every weekend. We free-form dance and count the time signature at the same time. It has helped her so much with her dance expression. We love it. Ty so much for this music video and track.
Such a consistently brilliant band. Screen Violence is a fantastic album as well. Have had it on almost constant play for the last few weeks. Scotland's finest 💙🏴
What I love this track - and I'm writing as I listen to it for the first-time - is the clean production and the hints of Lauren's accent in her singing voice. The lyrics are great, too.
Eggy Noggy what do you mean by harlot technique? all you've proved to me is that you're a bitter man who can't date american women, which basically means you're ugly scottish women are a demographic to be romanticised, the very idea of doing so is ludicrous my point was beauty and personalities vary everywhere you go, women have no incentive to be funny or interesting, men will want them either way, thats how its always worked, dont be such a pussy and stop putting women on a pedestal, they dont deserve it
I've been listening to chvrches for 3 years now and they are a truly gifted group! Laurens vocals are amazingly captivating! Never ending circles was what led me to keep wanting to hear everything they have made! Im wishing they come around the Midwest again soon! Keep up the awesome music!
It's pleasing how Lauren looks as delicate as her voice and the musical arrangement sounds, and the soft colors look. The haze in the video makes it seem surreal, as if she were in her internal place of safety and comfort, close to completely healing her emotional wounds. She looks vulnerable in a beautiful way. Coming to peace with herself, accepting things for what they were and preparing to finally close the chapter of a broken romance. That's what I visualize due to her tranquility during the storm that seems to cease as she softly dances in the water... and that guy behind the fog, it shows how distant he is from her, since she is leaving him behind. Barely visible within her.
I'm glad you got over that rough period of your life. For me, it was much the same, except it wasn't a relationship per se. But the sentiment's still the same!
Counting the days until he moves out. Wasted 8 years of my life in a burning dumpster fire of toxicity... My soul is screaming for freedom. It's time and I'm so ready! Hope you're doing well these days❤
It was only toxic because you both made it that way. Sometimes you need to listen. And understand the other persons point of view. Nobody cares about their partner anymore. It's all narcissistic BS.
Since I heard a song from this band I can't get enough. I am utterly in love with Lauren. She's one of the most beautiful women in this planet. When I heard her voice for the first time, I had no doubts she was absolutely beautiful. Wasn't wrong. In love with her.
It's so crazy that I don't typically listen to this kind of music but since finding Chvrches nearly 6 years ago now I have never stopped going back every few months and I'm so excited every time they release new stuff. One of my favorite bands due to their creativity.
Have you ever had an experience where a song comes to mind that absolutely fits? Not necessarily specifically, but the general message. I have. Applicable songs come into my head all of the time for any and every occasion. This song is one of them.
Honestly one of the most underappreciated bands of our time. (EDIT: been seeing some folks disagree with this, and I just wanted to clarify that I meant in the mainstream sense. I know CHVRCHES is actually very popular when compared to most bands of today.)

All that shit without a beat and pretty boys emoting so hard it sounds like they're straining with constipation. And whatever happened to guitars, drums, bands even, and people without ghetto names? I do my best to understand. I think Chvrches are great but they sure don't enjoy the success of the absolute garbage acts of today.
I know this song came out in like 2015-16, but even though I’m only hearing it for the first time now, it brings me back to that time period. Something about the sound is just so nostalgic for me. So weird but I love it
Oh for sure. Back then, we didn't have to worry about pandemics, much less Trump. It's fair to say that looking back, even with the dysfunction back in those years, they were pretty much the Halcyon days compared to now.
This song has helped me in the time of my life when I left an abusive relationship. I dont know a lot about the band or the singer. But if i meet her just once, all id like to do is shake her hand, and thank her for such a wonderful song. If the singer, or anyone of the band is reading this, thank you.

Phantogram try When I'm Small first. They're like an acquired taste. Yeah yeah yeahs are good too. Besides Maps try Soft Shock. Metric as well is good.
I'm just now discovering this song because tbh I've slept on CHVRCHES for years aside from a couple other tracks. This is amazing and the production on the beat is insane, I love it 😍
Her “a” sound is so relaxing compared to where I’m from. In Ohio all the old people say their “a” sound as twangy as possible like instead of “cat” it’s “kyeeat”, whereas Lauren would say something along the lines of “caht” and “cot” So soothing for someone who grew up around all the twang, her accent is lovely. Chvrches wouldn’t be the same without her accent
It is a great song. I am not a big fan of the video aspect in general, but here whoever shot this video knew what they were doing. A truly beautiful woman.
Though this video is more or less minimalist compared to others, I still love it so much. And Lauren looks GORGEOUS in it, as always. I absolutely love the backdrop, too; I kinda wanna live in that foggy, dreamlike expanse. It's so pretty and serene.
Just returned from Scotland where I heard some great local music. This sent me on a search of Scottish bands and I found this. WOW. Awesome songs, amazing talent. Love it!
😆 Same. I learned about it today. Unless, my memory is correct about me possibly having read the name "CHRVCHES" in the title of at least one of rleated video results for something I was watching somwhere here on TH-cam...🤔
the lyric that hits the hardest for me is 'and i'm sane as i ever was'. don't call me crazy. i'm not crazy. i can see what you're doing and i'm as sane as i ever was
Conheci na abertura do show do Coldplay em São Paulo e simplesmente amei a voz dela, amei as músicas, que me lembram os anos 80. Virei fã. Essa música, em especial, marcou.
It's nice seeing the new generation coming up with original music, instead of stepping all over our 80's music. Love the new album. Very fresh and original.
Considering this music video and another song from their upcoming album, they changed a lot. Some say their music becomes 'pop' and other say they changed in a good way. The way I see it I love how they changed. I have to admit that these songs are catchy like 'pop' and the sound is quite similar to their previous album. But I think I will love their album anyway
***** honestly the bones of what you believe was already pretty "pop", the only thing that made it not stand out as "pop" was the fact that it was synth pop from scotland instead of overproduced instrumental pop from america
wohdinhel I get your idea. it's true that the bones of what you believe is kind of pop but every open eyes becomes more 'pop' than their previous album. This is what I tried to say :)
***** hang on..they've released 2 tracks from the new album and you're slagging it already? funny as fuck..why not wait till you hear the full album at the end of september
I discovered CHVRCHES thanks to Forza and Death Stranding and then i checked out other songs from them and liked more than one but somehow i missed this one, only when i was talking about music with one girl and i mentioned CHVRCHES she told me about this song and i love it This is just amazing
I originally bought the vinyl for the four tet remix but flipped it over the other day and now I'm hooked. Now I'm buying more albums to check out as this tether and asking for a friend has reeled me right in. Oh and the singer is absolutely stunning.
Yes, she seems like a treasure like you folks say. I am a new listener/fan, and this is the second time i am properly listening to her music, and if someone noticed or not, she looks sad from the insside, and sadly i know how it feels,(asking for help in the void where nobody can hear/notice your pain) hope she becomes happy.
Marc Rodrigues, is this your first listen to Chvrches? I got into them when their third album, Love is Dead, dropped and they're easily one of my new favorite bands. Death Stranding, Dead Air, and Warning Call are some of my favorite tracks of theirs that aren't on any of their albums. Also they just released a new song yesterday titled He Said, She said. If you haven't checked any of those out yet I highly recommend it.
If Chvrches never produced another song, I will be forever grateful for this piece of utter synth pop perfection
AGREE.

I gave up on time
Just like you said you would
There are tiny cracks of light underneath me
And you say I got it wrong
But I tried hard to uncover them
I have somehow got
Away with everything
Anything you ever did was strictly by design
But you got it wrong
And I'll go anywhere but there
And you had best believe
That you cannot build what I don't need
And I know I need to feel relief
And I know you'll never fold
But I believe nothing that I'm told
And I know I need to feel relief
I know I need to feel released
Take care to tell it just as it was
Take care to tell on me for the cause
I know I need to feel released
Take care to bury all that you can
Take care to leave a trace of a man
I will show restraint
Just like we said we should
You think I'll apologize for things I left behind
But you got it wrong
And I'm as sane as I ever was
You talk far too much
For someone so unkind
I will wipe the salt off of my skin
And I'll admit that I got it wrong
And there is grey between the lines
And you had best believe
That you cannot build what I don't need
And I know I need to feel relief
And I know you'll never fold
But I believe nothing that I'm told
And I know I need to feel relief
I know I need to feel released
Take care to tell it just as it was
Take care to tell on me for the cause
I know I need to feel released
Take care to bury all that you can
Take care to leave a trace of a man

I gave up on time
Just like you said you would
There are tiny cracks of light underneath me
And you say I got it wrong
But I tried hard to uncover them
I have somehow got
Away with everything
Anything you ever did was strictly by design
But you got it wrong
And I'll go anywhere but there
And you had best believe
That you cannot build what I don't need
And I know I need to feel relief
And I know you'll never fold
But I believe nothing that I'm told
And I know I need to feel relief
I know I need to feel released
Take care to tell it just as it was
Take care to tell on me for the cause
I know I need to feel released
Take care to bury all that you can
Take care to leave a trace of a man
I will show restraint
Just like we said we should
You think I'll apologize for things I left behind
But you got it wrong
And I'm as sane as I ever was
You talk far too much
For someone so unkind
I will wipe the salt off of my skin
And I'll admit that I got it wrong
And there is grey between the lines
And you had best believe
That you cannot build what I don't need
And I know I need to feel relief
And I know you'll never fold
But I believe nothing that I'm told
And I know I need to feel relief
I know I need to feel released
Take care to tell it just as it was
Take care to tell on me for the cause
I know I need to feel released
Take care to bury all that you can
Take care to leave a trace of a man
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know I need to feel released
Take care to tell it just as it was
Take care to tell on me for the cause
I know I need to feel released
Take care to bury all that you can
Take care to leave a trace of a man
I know, I know, I know, I know
I know, I know
Your songs and messages behind it were my companion during the darkest period, thanks Chvrches.
As a 33 year old white man, i can say that this is a hood classic.
Haven't been able to stop listening to this song for days.
Not that I want to!
I love this song these guys are one of the most underrated bands out there.
Fr tho it gives off a vibe I’ve never felt from any other music
@@DanielIredalee yeah..... That's right...
The music is great (goes without saying) and, man, Lauren is a beauty (also goes without saying).
Beautiful song. Have had it on repeat for about 70 times since discovering it lol.
Lauren is an icon, a goddess of music.
I'm so happy I discovered Chvrches. Any recommendations similar to Chvrches would be greatly appreciated, although I think Chvrches is unique.
Phantogram try When I'm Small first. They're like an acquired taste. Yeah yeah yeahs are good too. Besides Maps try Soft Shock. Metric as well is good.
+Ramza Maybe some of The Knife? Heartbeats, Pass This On, We Share Our Mothers' Health, etc.
+Roselle Abrenilla +Peter Walker
Thanks guys!

Bastille, Saint Raymond, To Kill A King.
I'm just now discovering this song because tbh I've slept on CHVRCHES for years aside from a couple other tracks. This is amazing and the production on the beat is insane, I love it 😍
My favorite song. September 2023. This song is fantastic!
Good choice
I miss this band, they need to make more music like this
I felt butterflies at 3:07. That first love kind of feeling. I love you, Lauren. I mean that.
The Guru of Greatness I felt the same....
+The Guru of Greatness This is scary
The Guru of Greatness nah no you don't
Mr. Mojorisen awesome pic
You better be proud that this song gets played on a Heavy Metal radio show in Scotland every week
Great music Can be heard everywhere
Played on a metal show in Scotland?? This is not Metal Or Rock!! Why play it?
weird flex but congrats I guess, good tunes tho
@@Malte-Micha I have a feeling it has to do with the fact that they remind Depeche Mode, who are not metal neither, but influenced the genre a lot.
@@Malte-Micha because she is Scottish
Love this song, one of the very best bands to come from Glasgow, simply superb.
This band, her voice, this sound has a piece of my heart for captivating my mind.
the most under rated band in the UK
She is perfection
Amazing band, amazing song
i love when she says can and man her accent just comes out
and how and told i can hear it a lot
Her “a” sound is so relaxing compared to where I’m from. In Ohio all the old people say their “a” sound as twangy as possible like instead of “cat” it’s “kyeeat”, whereas Lauren would say something along the lines of “caht” and “cot”
So soothing for someone who grew up around all the twang, her accent is lovely. Chvrches wouldn’t be the same without her accent
Don Beck Not many people say the Scottish accent is soothing.
Sink Sink Sink
@@donbeck8835 that's similar to the fermanagh accent in Northern Ireland
It is a great song. I am not a big fan of the video aspect in general, but here whoever shot this video knew what they were doing. A truly beautiful woman.
@@nayu37 Read my message again. i don't care for the video aspect in general (for playing songs) but ...
Lauren's voice is heavenly.
Ela cantou no show Coldplay no Brasil arrasou voz dela muito linda amei toda música dela❤
Eu ouvi no show do dia 17/03 e achei muito top o show e as músicas. Achei ainda melhor ao vivo
coldplay 🤢🤮🤮🤮
Though this video is more or less minimalist compared to others, I still love it so much. And Lauren looks GORGEOUS in it, as always. I absolutely love the backdrop, too; I kinda wanna live in that foggy, dreamlike expanse. It's so pretty and serene.
The most beautiful voice I've ever heard
Just returned from Scotland where I heard some great local music. This sent me on a search of Scottish bands and I found this. WOW. Awesome songs, amazing talent. Love it!
Wow, how I love this eighties vibe and the beautiful Lauren as a singer. Just freakin' good.
It's kind of a shame that their songs don't sound that great live :/
I 100% love this song, shivers down spine every time
Classic track bringing back great memories wonderful stuff.
I'm a simple man. She is an amazing singer and a beautiful woman.
this album is magical, this is one of the best songs, the electronic sound is very good, the voice pure magic
Discovering something amazing called Chvrches, yeah, just now. Been living under a stone
The same time as me and I really loved this band so much
😆 Same. I learned about it today. Unless, my memory is correct about me possibly having read the name "CHRVCHES" in the title of at least one of rleated video results for something I was watching somwhere here on TH-cam...🤔
Me too😱😭 hope it not too late
@@sinjin4605 the more i watched the more i loved now i can't get enough
@@yusri2088 looking forward for new material, i hope we have Chvrches for a long time
These guys are so underrated and are awesome live. This song is still good years on and seeing Lauren rock a black mini dress too. She is stunning.
They've certainly evolved, it just does my heart good to see Lauren is a more confident performer.
I really like Chvrches 80's vibe
Not even close
@Diamondyguy Jacobs WOW OK that's really cool thanks for the info
no 80s , actually its a very modern sound
It don't sounds 80's.
@@wandydeoli5780 Oh yes it does...pop and new wave influences. Heavy ones. Are you actually listening to this song?
fell in love with this track in Game Awards Performance.
the lyric that hits the hardest for me is 'and i'm sane as i ever was'. don't call me crazy. i'm not crazy. i can see what you're doing and i'm as sane as i ever was
Lauren is wonder, Chvrches is amazing!
Conheci na abertura do show do Coldplay em São Paulo e simplesmente amei a voz dela, amei as músicas, que me lembram os anos 80. Virei fã. Essa música, em especial, marcou.
coldplay 🤢🤮🤮🤮
@@ramn_ Olha la o diferentao red pill que não gosta de codiplai gente!
One of the best bands out currently, opinion and fact.
Another fact is an opinion and a fact are mutually exclusive by definition.
It's nice seeing the new generation coming up with original music, instead of stepping all over our 80's music. Love the new album. Very fresh and original.
I remember when they announced to have a concert in Manila, I booked flights and tickets but it was cancelled. Still my greatest heartache!
same here
It has literally been almost 5 years since this song came out! Amazing how time flies!
This song makes me feel good every time thank god for music.
Fantastic track. Delighted that they are back.
Excellent sound to my ears.Thank for surpur sound C.
She is a powerhouse, as are the guys on the instrumentals
yeah
maroon 5 can relate
Would it be more impressive if females played the instruments and wrote the lyrics? If so, why? We're all human here :P
@@Artanis667 ? The people on instrumentals are guys in this specific case, he didn't say anything about it being better or worse if they were girls
word
***** This particular song kinda sounds like an alternative rock song redone with electronic instruments to me
***** hang on..they've released 2 tracks from the new album and you're slagging it already? funny as fuck..why not wait till you hear the full album at the end of september
darktrain d Did you ever bother to read what dude wrote? How is he slagging it?
I discovered CHVRCHES thanks to Forza and Death Stranding and then i checked out other songs from them and liked more than one but somehow i missed this one, only when i was talking about music with one girl and i mentioned CHVRCHES she told me about this song and i love it
This is just amazing
Y yo descubrí HOW NOT TO DROWN en FORTNITE

Same. Forza has some great bangers....cars included
I originally bought the vinyl for the four tet remix but flipped it over the other day and now I'm hooked. Now I'm buying more albums to check out as this tether and asking for a friend has reeled me right in. Oh and the singer is absolutely stunning.
So much good things going on, perfect lyrics, perfect song, stunning singer
Every time I fall in love with a voice like this they turn out to be from somewhere in the UK. They just have that different sound.
So true. I've always thought exactly the same
Scotland
Super Lied das kann ich immer wieder hören ❤
Yes, she seems like a treasure like you folks say.
I am a new listener/fan, and this is the second time i am properly listening to her music, and if someone noticed or not, she looks sad from the insside, and sadly i know how it feels,(asking for help in the void where nobody can hear/notice your pain) hope she becomes happy.
Chvrches give me a strong Angels And Airwaves vibe. Loving it
Damn, I had never heard of these guys before the Game Awards and now I can't get enough of them.
I'm jealous you all knew about this song before me. I just found it and it hasn't stopped playing since!
Ikr! This song is too addicting! Still my favorite for 5 years 😭
Marc Rodrigues, is this your first listen to Chvrches? I got into them when their third album, Love is Dead, dropped and they're easily one of my new favorite bands. Death Stranding, Dead Air, and Warning Call are some of my favorite tracks of theirs that aren't on any of their albums. Also they just released a new song yesterday titled He Said, She said. If you haven't checked any of those out yet I highly recommend it.
Same I found out about them from Death Stranding and I just googled them, now they are on my running playlist 😄
Welcome to the club!!
@@Professor_SpaceTime It''s a great club to be a part of!
I’d give my soul to be with someone who believes in your lyrics the way I do. Love you.
Great song. The nuances in the vocals are amazing.
