    I'm shocked by how many people believe this "leak" I mean as soon as I read "Russell Tovey is the Master" I immediately was like nope, I also can't see RTD killing off Mel especially since RTD decided against it in Series 14.

    • @CulturePhilter
      @CulturePhilter  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      And RTD does have a history of coping out on Compton deaths. Both Rose. And Donna looked like they were going to die at one point or another and didn’t.
      I certinally don’t believe them outright. Thought they were interesting enough to discuss though

      And yeah, I'm not a fan of killing off a legacy companion in general, I feel like unless the actor dies the character should remain alive.

    I do like having a break from the Daleks and the Cybermen. I wasn't over the moon with the last series but hopefully more guest writers next series might bring more new ideas. I also really don't think The Master will be returning as we did have Missy basically for 2 whole seasons and then Sacha for basically another whole season for chibnalls run.. After everything the human race has done so far hasn't sent the Doctor running it is going to take something pretty universe shattering now so grain of salt.
    No killing Mel No No No ❌❌❌ not happy with that. I finally like her!!! I didn't like her in classic her character was just the "I will scweam and Scweam until I am sick" character she played before when I was a kid and I loathed her 😂😂
    The Master is not someone I really want returning for now the character has also been very over used and just really needs a break from our screens too.
    The rest just meh we already had guessed at Mrs Flood and the Grandson may actually be her Harbinger as Henry was the son of Maestro.
    I tend to take most leaks with a grain of salt and generally avoid them as the only social media I do is TH-cam but everyone is covering them these days. I actually avoided the Bi Generation leak so that came as a big surprise for me 😂😂

    I’m not opposed to casting for The Master. Pretty much everyone has brought something to the role I’ve liked. I’m just a bit bored of the change for every Doctor. It’s a time travel show, let’s have a rota for Simm, Gomez and Dhawan.

    • @CulturePhilter
      @CulturePhilter  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      It was great when Simm came back for the 12th Doctor so I’d absolutely be up for more of incarnations outside their original era.

  • @ThomCurley

    I totally buy Russell as The Master. Same red t-shirt that Simm had in the end of time under his hoodie. Same stubble. Same blonde hair. I think it's got legs and very likely. He's also a very good actor and I would assume could bring a real grounding of The Master. The idea of using him to help in the absence of The Doctor makes perfect sense. It's so Loki and Suicide Squad and even a nod back to The Sea Devils when he was a prisoner then too. Yep, I think its real.

    I would like to see the return of the Ood although they are generally not considered “monsters” they have the ability to change with outside influence (ie the beast).
    I would also like to see the Silence again. They were one of the scariest monsters of Doctor Who.
    And of course the return of the SCARIEST monster of all time, the Weeping Angels would be great.

    • @CulturePhilter
      @CulturePhilter  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah if an interesting new story could be done with Ood would be good to see them back, they’ve only really had two stories that revolve around them and then a bunch of cameos
      The Silence are one of my favourite Who creatures. Big Finish have done some interesting stuff with them, I’m sure the Tv show could think of some way to use them well again as well.

    The "Russell Tovey as the Master" stuff could be set - as far as the Master's timeline is concerned - after Missy but before Sacha... Without the Doctor around to point out that he's already seen how the Master develops, no one needs to know that, and this story could be "how Missy turned back to the Dark Side..."? Needlessly complicated, I think, and potentially a bit WTF?, but possible.

    • @MarkMichalowski
      @MarkMichalowski 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Possibly, but if TWBTLATS is intended to be a (relatively) standalone mini-series, tangling up the Master's back- (and fore-) story feels needlessly complicated, as you say. Unless, of course, they're building up to more stories/series featuring the Master as the protagonist, either alone or alongside UNIT.

    I'm with you on the wish to k*ll a companion!!! It's a tricky one to choose though. I feel like Mel has been redeemed with her on-screen work recently - it didn't help that she was introduced during the Trial of a TimeLord and written very one-dimensionally. Langford has really made her presence meaningful in recent stories. On the one hand, if a recurring character is going to die, there's a bigger emotional payoff if they're a popular character. On the other, you can redeem an unpopular character by giving them a big self-sacrifice send-off - Adric is still remembered more for his death than his storylines.

      @@CulturePhilter Perhaps. But there's been constant "and this, and this and this" going on. The Cybermen had a welcome return to "they are us" and body horror, rather than just clonking around. But soon enough - some people can resist the conversion, they can move rapidly, their heads have tendril thingies, they can be made of wood. Or even Timelords with carefully designed headpieces.
      Daleks started well, but then we got special ones with individuality, human ones, Palitoy ones, psychologically broken ones and even rebel ones. A whole ton of them created, Adam's rib style, from Davros' own flesh - eh, what?
      The Master has been by turns demented, supervillain Skeletor and possibly repentant.
      Sontarans are comically played for shortness of stature rather than fearsome physical power and there's a humiliated nurse one.
      Silurians and Zygons now live among us, sometimes openly. Oh and the former have deadly poisonous tongues.
      And Moffat's fantastic creation of the Weeping Angels within this era has been progressively mucked about with, mostly by himself. An image of one is one. Seeing one turns you into one. They don't just steal your lived years they break your neck. They can mimic you. They can move when they don't think you can see them. They can also be made of copper or wood and some of them freelance as bounty hunters for some pseudo and equally baffling Time Lord operation.
