Quick word of appreciation for the work that Gasket Masters Jack and Jenn did on my 2010 Prius. Not only do I appreciate that the car is back up and running, but that they did not mind having me and my 5 yr old mechanic-in-training watch over their shoulders while learning how the pros do the work. They did the work swiftly, all the while addressing our questions/concerns with smiles on their faces. They showed up on time, ready to rock-n-roll, which I always appreciate from anyone showing up at my home to do work. I simply cannot think of ways I could receive better auto repair service! Will definitely keep Gasket Masters in mind for any future engine repair ... Thanks again, Jack and Jenn!
This video saved me thousands of dollars. It took me 10 days working on and off, but this kept me on track and could pick it back up when I had time. I did have an issue after starting it for the first time where it was running really rought and I was getting a Check Hybrid System message, so I reset the hybrid system (there is another video on TH-cam about the steps to do this) and everything is kosher now. Thank you very much for the video and being so in depth.
Thank You for posting video. I just replaced my head gasket using this method. Only problem was disconnecting the fuel line. Had to pull injectors out. Went back in no problem with a little grease. Thank You again.
Thanks very much for this video. Coupled with your earlier video, this gives a very clear view of the work involved, and lots of tips. One quibble, if you don't mind: Around 18:50 mark, you recommend for removing the head bolts, a "size 12 triple-square". I think this will work, but the Repair Manual recommends "10 mm bi-hexagon wrench". The two have the same number of points, and very close dimensions, but the points on the Toyota recommendation are 60 degree (corner of hexagon) and your recommendation has points that are 90 degree. The points on the triple square also protrude very slightly more, so that maybe compensates. Still, The Toyota recommendation is the more compatible fit, and is available, on amazon for example.
Nicely done and informative video. I am a mechanically incline person but consider the amount of steps that go into this is amazing. I rather trust the pros. When my Prius needs a head gasket I will call you guys no doubt.
I spoke to on the phone a few weeks ago very helpful. Nothing done on my priuis yet, going to get it looked at by another mechanic. I wish you guys were in NY. Love the video.
AL You are right. We do between four and six Prius engines a day so cutting time by changing little parts of the plan here and there helps a lot. Instead of waiting for the heads to be machined at the machine shop we always have cylinder heads ready to go so there is no downtime
I think this video answered most of my questions I left in the voicemail, other than the new Toyota gasket shown in The Car Care Nut video and issues with the Felpro gasket kits and Toyota gasket kits and what appears to be not needing and only a few new gaskets while at it. Hadn't seen this video for some reason and glad TH-cam AI or whatever randomly suggested.
You guys are 3rd Gen Prius frickin artists. Great works Bro's. Question: at 34:50 where is your jack point on the oil pan? I assume you are placing wood on your jack so as not to dent the oil pan. Have u ever dented the pan due to the weight o the engine?? Thanks in advance and keep the videos on the 3rd Gen Prius coming!!
I’ve got a 2010 Prius with 200,000 miles. #1 cylinder misfire, car shaking, coolant in oil etc. obvious blown head gasket. Used Bar’s Leak Sealer with carbon fiber. Worked like magic. No heater core issues. No more misfires etc. Thank you Bar’s....UPDATE 1/29/20. Have gone 500 miles since adding Bar’s.
Mr Yusuf There is nothing easy about doing a head gasket job on a Prius. I suppose if you are a mechanic and familiar with the car it can be done but it’s still time consuming and a dirty job. I’d rather be watching TV then under the hood!
Good job guys i love it made it look easy did you guys check for warping of the cylinder thats a big issue to i learned the hard way on a 2008 nissan maxima lol

weird, i performed the above procedure, reconnected all, did all like in the video (and like in other folks' videos too). Can't get a 'ready' light from it now. Reconnected hybrid battery orange plug and 12v battery is full. Getting P0301, P0352, and P0403 codes. dropped battery - reconnect, get codes again. The relays seem to do something, but engine isn't even cranking. new spark plugs/coils there. All grounds connected. EGR plug is firm. All wires seem to be ok...WEIRD.
