^This is the way. I have mixed feelings with Nick requesting a trade, on the one hand I would hate to see him go, on the other hand he has not been treated well here. The new coaching staff has the opportunity to mend the rift and actually give him the opportunities he has earned himself. Mitch Marner is not the same at all. You let him play and he will get resigned here - bottom line. The media and fanbase have memories of goldfish, he puts in half a good season and the contract extension will be headline news and nobody will be complaining. Or the voices that are still complaining will be drowned out by all the 'atta boy mitchy's. It also incentivizes him to give a list of teams if you make it very clear to him he is sitting the entire season. The only possibility it has is lowering his value by him sitting a season. It's not going to be improving the narrative around him, he will stagnate, which letting him play will not do. If you want to argue it doesn't effect his value then fine, he is still the same '100 point reg season scorer who falls apart in the playoffs'

I'm very worried Brad is still going to keep JT and Marner for the core mentality but it's not going to work because they need to overcome Boston and Florida in their division. These teams know how to handle the core by putting a wall on their bottom line, basic hockey fundies are what you need to beat the Leafs... which is hilarious

Either Robertson has bad judgement or he has been given bad advice. His lack of opportunity is not the Leafs disrespecting him or miss managing him. He has been injured so many times and other players like Steve said have lapped him in development. This looks like this is the year where he will get a big increase in minutes and an opportunity to cement a permanent role on the third or even second line.

Even the Leafs are stupid enough to put him on waivers unless they do a contract with a big bonus right after the waiver wire. If they had to waive a body for salary cap, it would be a more expensive option to deter others from picking them up.
