    Pens fan here. I love Crosby, and I don't think our teams gonna have much sudden success. He can absolutely go somewhere else and no one here would burn a jersey or anything. He is a champion of this city and can do no wrong.

      Agreed, that's what most sensible people should conclude. 3 cups and all of the other accolades, nothing left to prove. I'm interested to see how this all plays out, but he can't make a wrong choice at this point in my opinion. Cheers

    Crosby isn't a veteran looking for his first championship. He's literally done it all when it comes to hockey. He's got a house in Pittsburgh, friends, family. He's built a life in Pitt and I think it just comes down to him wanting to stay there.
    Also, Chris Kunitz had 4 Stanley Cups in the salary cap era. Which is one more than 3.

    I love Toronto logic. In spite of acknowledging that the Pens have a large fanbase and a five championships in the last 30 years, players should not want to play there. Yet Toronto fans will also tell you that players should naturally want to come to the Leafs, in spite of it being a notorious pressure cooker and no championships in the last 50 years.

    He's got a choice - he can finish his career there and help out some of the kids, or he can go for another Stanley Cup. In my view, if he really wants to help the Penguins organization, he'd ask for a trade to a contender so that he can get a shot at a final Cup AND Pittsburgh can get some assets for him to help with the rebuild. Sure, it's cute when a player wants to play their entire career in one place, but when they'd be really helping their franchise (and I'm not a penguins fan) if they let themselves be traded to another team, obviously to a team that has a chance to win. That way everyone's happy. Martin St. Louis was trade to the Rangers, but while he never won a Cup there, the Bolts got a 1st, a 2nd and their future captain Ryan Callahan. As a fan of the Canucks, I would have liked to have seen the Sedins move on to a contender and won a Cup elsewhere while we got a few draft picks in return. The Sedins deserved a Cup ring, and it would have been nice to get more assets. I still hope for the best for Bo Horvat. At this point, everyone is leaving the team that drafted them for more money, so I don't hold grudges anymore. If I did that, I'd have to stop watching hockey altogether.

    • @sj4iy
      @sj4iy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The pens would not receive anywhere near the value in a trade that Crosby brings already.
      If he moved, it would be to a contender. You don’t build a new team with 30th overall picks.
      Crosby puts fans in seats, win or lose. He’s a veteran captain who can help teach upcoming players while keeping the pens competitive.
      Rebuilds aren’t guarantees of success. It doesn’t matter if they start now or later…which, btw, they’ve already started.
      The logic makes no sense. He’s more helpful staying. He’s also declared over and over that he wants to finish his career here.

    0:17 To be fair to Dubas he traded a third for Reilly smith and then after Smith sucked and his value plummeted, he retained 1.25 in a trade that got back a second and conditional fifth when they had plenty of cap space to work with. That’s an okay acquisition followed by a better exit trade

    As a Penguins fan going to games starting in 1967 I hope Sid retires a Penguin. If Canada can get a goalie, he is sure to win two more World championships regardless of his NHL team.
    Should he decide he wants to leave Pittsburgh to chase more SC's, I will be disappointed, but not hate on that so long as he gets traded vice just walking away next year for nothing.
    If he chooses to leave Pens it seems out of character IMO for him though as he would be abandoning Geno and Letang who he lobbied behind the scenes for Pens to retain. Most notably Malkin over Vince Trocheck who is a yinzer, younger and cheaper and better at this stage and wanted to sign with Pens at the time.

  • @sonicismybrawler
    @sonicismybrawler 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    As a Pens fan I was more confused by this show than anything.
    Like, were rational people even upset by that show?
    IF Sid wants to leave, great. He's done everything we've ever asked of him and so much more.
    If Sid wants to stay and keep trying, great. Not gonna hurt my feelings to see him keep giving it his best shot.
    The correct answer is whatever Sid wants, Sid should get. Without question.
    My problem is that people seem to be pinning this on Dubas for some reason, like, do you think for a moment that the Penguins organization gives a rats ass about what Dubas thinks if it's at all in conflict with what Sid wants?
    His lack of a plan may just be because the situation is simply unfixable and a trade is just not possible at this time for whatever reason, and that reason could just be because Sid doesn't want to, or the teams Sid wants to go to can't accommodate and we're just stuck.
    It's the internet, everyone on here is nuts. But as long as the core is here, the team is going to try to win, even if that is completely unreasonable because the resources simply won't allow it to be the case. As Pens fans, we gotta accept that and just enjoy the sun set. You can get mad at a sun set, but it's happening whether you like it or not.
    But the tl;dr is, whatever Sid wants, Sid should get. No questions. No arguments. Just do it, and I think pretty much every Pens fan is actually on board with that regardless of what randos on the internet say.

      Pittsburgher here and I'm not sure I agree. I think that might be true in the moment ala James Harrison. Left for Cincy for a bit, then came back to Pittsburgh for another season. All was forgiven. But then he went to the Patriots and everyone hated him for like 3 years. Even though Harrison lost the SB that year in a Pats uniform, he was still generally disliked. Now he's kind of a folk hero again and he spends tons of time at the Steelers facility working out, helping out as an assistant, and doing stuff. The anger faded away and he's generally beloved again. He's Deebo. He's our Deebo. I think it would be the same if Crosby opted to leave. It would stink and there would be some bad feelings at first, but his number would be retired soon after. And he's almost a candidate to have the HOF waiting time waived. He's a Penguins for life no matter where he finishes.

    Fascinating topics that were brought up, really. The discussion around a player's "legacy" when it comes to being one of the greats and staying with one team vs leaving is definitely a head-scratcher, because it DOES come up all the time, in every major sport, and I don't know why because essentially ZERO all-time greats in any major sport have ever had a legacy that is talked about as lessened because of leaving their original team, with MAYBE one exception, and that's Lebron James (and even Lebron, the most unfairly hated/criticized athlete in the history of the world, doesn't really get that kind of debate anymore, at least not much or not seriously anymore). So, why do people STILL bring this up all the time, inevitably? It's bizarre.

    There are certainly players that went to play elsewhere and had it tarnish their reputation. Gerry Cheevers comes to mind as a big one. A lot of Bruins fans blame him going to the WHA and breaking up the Bruins core as a big part of why they only won 2 cups during the Orr era. Now Boston is weird and doesn't have any goalie numbers retired despite having had some of the best goalies ever. So him not having his number retired isn't a direct display of that. But all of the other meaningful guys from that era have retired numbers. He's a glaring exception and him playing somewhere else is a big part of it.

    I was happy for Bourque, and I'd be happy for Crosby. These past two decades as a Pens fan have been more than I could have ever hoped for. We did the Kessel Run twice in only 24 parsecs. I think Penguins fans are a lot more supportive of moving him than you think.

    I'd love to see a Marner trade for Crosby (50% salary retained by PIT), Roy, and a top 3 round draft pick. Then... sign McDavid in 2025. Then you've got McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, Nylander, and Tavares all on the same team... plus an amazing d-core.

    Red wings fan here. Crosby needs to be traded for the good of the franchise as well as the player.
    I watched the red wings hold on to mediocrity way past their due.
    Had holland blown it up in 2012 they would be contenders now. But maybe not drafting is tough.
    Rebuilding on the fly doesn’t work.

    As a pens fan, the expectation for Crosby and the penguins is playoffs. If they don’t at least get to that bar this year, I expect him to be gone. Dubas needs to make another splash trade this year, Karlsson was great but he doesn’t fit the system, he needs to get a guy that fits the system
