I had severe imposter syndrome at my first corporate career when I was 26 in 2015. Now at 34 in 2023, imposter syndrome is still in the back of my mind, but you just have to fight through it. Practicing extensively for the interview and practicing asking the PROPER questions with friends definitely helps eliminate imposter syndrome. At the interviews and during the first month on the job, having extra self confidence and just know that most people are winging it, helped.

I like your videos and have been following from quite some time. Its helping me improve my confidence. But sad thing is i am not getting calls from recruiters to implement. Few say ny resume is not upto mark
I'm glad I can help with building your confidence. Your comments made me think of a recent HBR podcast that I listened to: hbr.org/ideacast/2019/12/the-tipping-point-between-failure-and-success The bottom line is that research discovered people who experience early failures often become more accomplished than counterparts who achieve early successes. Also, you need to get someone else's opinion on your resume and make some changes as well. Also, try to leverage information coffees or networking groups to meet new people so you can expand your network! I got more rejections from landing my first co op job as a student than the ones I heard back from - so don't be afraid of failures or rejections. Keep applying and thinking of different ways you can improve your chance of hearing back from the recruiters :) hope this helps!
This video is very relatable.! Could you please make a video regarding how to crack BA interviews.? what materials to follow, what type of questions are asked? what do they interviewers see?
Sure the customer don't know how to translate the idea .. that's why they bring us .. and they're expecting that you telling them this is wrong and this is the way how to think 🤔 before you think about your weakness you have to think about the customer who brings you to help finding the solution 🙂 so we are fine to be strong business consultant.. 👍
Who came to business analyst career after being in the absolutely different branch? I’m curious about your way, could you share your experience please?
Hi there, I am a recent graduate. I came across your amazing video as I am preparing for a BA interview in a finance company. I have a background in data analytics thus don't really have too much knowledge in finance. As you mentioned in your other video, BA needs to understand both business and technical sides of the company. I have been doing a lot of research lately about things like how does the company work, who are its customers, how does it make money etc. However, the more research I do, the more I realize I don't know. And since English is not my first language, it is even harder for me since I need to understand the concept first, then translating them into English. I am freaking out a little and even thought about cancelling the interview. Do you have any suggestions? Again, thanks for posting this video and sharing your experiences!
Hi Sara! You don't have to understand the business even before you get hired! You will learn how the business works and more about the company within the first year after you get hired. It sounds like you're putting too much pressure on yourself. So do not put too much pressure on yourself and stop doing too much research! It can definitely backfire. What I do for interview prep is the following: 1. Pull out your job description for this company 2. Do research on the company on their website as much as you can - do sufficient research so that you have a good understanding but you don't have to know everything. You can also use Glassdoor to see what the company culture looks like. 3. Pull out your resume - highlight any skill sets that are mentioned in the job description 4. Think about your past experience and what you can bring to the table by matching up your skill sets on your resume against the job description you've applied for. If it says analytical skill sets - think about how you demonstrated this in your previous company 5. Create a list of interview practice questions - you can search online if you can't think of any. It always begins with 'Tell me about yourself'. 6. Brainstorm answers for each practice interview question 7. Practice it with your siblings or family or you can record yourself - I know that recording your own voice can be nerve wrecking but English is my second language as well and it really helped me to correct my pronunciation and to pause in between so that I wasn't just rambling on. 8. (optional if you have time) If you know who is going to interview you, you can do quick LinkedIn search to see what they're like - to see what kind of past experience or which industry they worked in so that you can see if you have similarities that they can relate to (maybe both you and your interviewer have similar hobbies such as hiking, volunteering at organizations, etc. so that you can incorporate this into your 'tell me about yourself' or if you notice that you've both worked in the same industry before, and if the interviewer asks you why you want to transition into Finance industry, you can say that you like to fast paced work environment where there are opportunities for growth and learning etc. compared to oil and gas industry which you've worked previously, etc.) 9. Don't forget to smile and be confident! The fact that you're being interviewed means that you are already enough and have skill sets to do the job. They would've never scheduled an interview if they didn't think so. Believe in yourself! You're enough. I really hope that you won't cancel the interview! Even if you don't get this job, it will be a great learning opportunity for growth. I got rejected for far too many jobs in the past I can't even keep track of how many, but each time I learned something new and it seemed less scary after doing so many interviews!
@@RichMillennialMindset I didn't except a reply that's so helpful and genuine. TBH I didn't except any reply at all. But thank you so much, this really means a lot to me! Hi, i recently completed my Masters in Business Analytics. I am applying for jobs in my field but all i am getting is rejections. I don't have experience as i have recently graduated. I feel clueless and demotivated. I don't really know What to do. Can you guide me what i can do as a person with no experience ?
Hey Ginni! I've definitely been in your shoes before so I just want to say that it's not YOU - this happens to all of us. I personally think I got rejected to 75 different intern applications (rejections or never heard back) and then got 5 interview and only got 1 offer when I was in college looking for paid internship opportunity. I kept track of all the companies and the positions I applied for in an excel until I landed my paid internship position lol I think the important thing is you have to take inventory of what kind of skill sets and experience you have and try to build up. Maybe you won't get responses for your dream jobs right away, but you might need to start with volunteering and then internships in the same industry to get your foot in the door. I know a lot of people who started off their careers with smaller companies to build their resume. You’re saying great and important things for people but just because you happened to be a business analyst when going through these does not justify the title. These are general things to understand, learn and overcome for any office job or almost any job where social interaction is needed. So I’d say title is misleading.

it has been alot to take in for me. I am still trying to understand the business and the different applications I have to support, definitely challenging (to the point I self-doubt myself alot). Haven't really contributed to meetings too much since I have started either, honestly don't understand alot of things because of a vast terminology that I need to know for the industry I am in. I thought I picked up on software functionality and how to use it fast until I started this haha.
@@xaznarthx your honesty is humbling. I hope you stick in there, if you're putting in your best I'm sure you be a critical factor in the team. I look forward to an update from you 😄
I had severe imposter syndrome at my first corporate career when I was 26 in 2015.
"Know that most people are winging it" Wow thats so powerful and thank you for sharing. Yes Self confidence is key
Dude, I don't usually comment, but let's just say I had to like and comment this video!

Thank you for this video. I will be starting my real BA job in 5 days. I feel like we have the same personality and I would be experiencing these things also. By watching this video, it somewhat validates that my fears are okay.
By the way, I watched all your BA videos. It's all helpful.
Keep going! Be safe. x

I think you have explained very well here.
i am currently in your position. i am afraid of asking questions sometimes those r the valid ones i prefer to send them mail after meeting or texting them in person.
Being BA i know this is not good.
Can you help me to understand how to start a requirement gathering process. i mean how to initiate the process - easy steps
I like your videos and have been following from quite some time. Its helping me improve my confidence. But sad thing is i am not getting calls from recruiters to implement. Few say ny resume is not upto mark
I'm glad I can help with building your confidence. Your comments made me think of a recent HBR podcast that I listened to: hbr.org/ideacast/2019/12/the-tipping-point-between-failure-and-success
The bottom line is that research discovered people who experience early failures often become more accomplished than counterparts who achieve early successes.
Very practical
This video is very relatable.!
Could you please make a video regarding how to crack BA interviews.? what materials to follow, what type of questions are asked? what do they interviewers see?
Great Video
Sure the customer don't know how to translate the idea .. that's why they bring us .. and they're expecting that you telling them this is wrong and this is the way how to think 🤔 before you think about your weakness you have to think about the customer who brings you to help finding the solution 🙂 so we are fine to be strong business consultant.. 👍
Thank you for sharing !
Who came to business analyst career after being in the absolutely different branch? I’m curious about your way, could you share your experience please?
I love it thank you for sharing
I miss you watching your videos. Are you going to be making new content in 2022?
Love this video
Thanks!!
What I do for interview prep is the following:
1. Pull out your job description for this company
2. Do research on the company on their website as much as you can - do sufficient research so that you have a good understanding but you don't have to know everything. You can also use Glassdoor to see what the company culture looks like.
3. Pull out your resume - highlight any skill sets that are mentioned in the job description
4. Think about your past experience and what you can bring to the table by matching up your skill sets on your resume against the job description you've applied for. If it says analytical skill sets - think about how you demonstrated this in your previous company
5. Create a list of interview practice questions - you can search online if you can't think of any. It always begins with 'Tell me about yourself'.
6. Brainstorm answers for each practice interview question
7. Practice it with your siblings or family or you can record yourself - I know that recording your own voice can be nerve wrecking but English is my second language as well and it really helped me to correct my pronunciation and to pause in between so that I wasn't just rambling on.
8. (optional if you have time) If you know who is going to interview you, you can do quick LinkedIn search to see what they're like - to see what kind of past experience or which industry they worked in so that you can see if you have similarities that they can relate to (maybe both you and your interviewer have similar hobbies such as hiking, volunteering at organizations, etc. so that you can incorporate this into your 'tell me about yourself' or if you notice that you've both worked in the same industry before, and if the interviewer asks you why you want to transition into Finance industry, you can say that you like to fast paced work environment where there are opportunities for growth and learning etc. compared to oil and gas industry which you've worked previously, etc.)
Hey! Yeah I just recorded a video to discuss how to deal with difficult customers. Thanks for inspiring me to create a video on this topic!
Good video!!
I just got into it alot to learn like u said we have to be good on the technical side or software side of it which I need to hone if u could help with tht it will be more than asked for..
Thank you! This is very helpful! I'm starting my BA journey. Is there any one skill that is extremely important and used by a BA all the time?
I would say an ability to learn and grasp things quickly and effective communication skills would be extremely important :)

I got a gig as a business analyst through recommendation from a friend but Ive done analyst work but not business analyst work . I sold my self now they want me to start working but I feel I have no actual working knowledge and it's kinda stressing me out lol
Same with me! I have experience as an analyst and have been selected to move forward with an interview for a business analyst and now I’m stressing out. I haven’t even done the interview yet but I’m more scared about not meeting their expectations on the job😩😩

Hi there, this video is so helpful. I am actually scared because I will start to attend a post-graduate program on business analytics. I don’t have any background in IT, finance, accounting or engineering so I am feeling like I don’t belong. I don’t know if I can do it.
What I am lack of is I can not keep in mind each and every requirement when developers asking clarification.
Hello it's been a year I am in the BA role. Still sometimes feel I try to control everything and every steps.
Beautiful girl you are and smart. I'm considering studying BA cert and have experience running my own startup. My question is regarding remote working, can I get a fully remote working role as a BA in the UK easily or Is it a rare thing?
Amazing video. Loved each and every moment of it. Can I add you on LinkedIn please?
Yeah absolutely! Send me an email at richmillennialmindset@gmail.com with your LinkedIn profile and we can connect.
thankyou
You're welcome!
is the salary growth rate similar for business analyst and the data analyst? is it true BA has higher chances for the on site opportunities. My dream is to go the US. I wanted to work as a data analyst but i heard for onsite opportunities one should choose BA. need your perspective
WOWOWOW
Thank you for this. How is it going for you now? Is it enough to know tableau, excel and sql of tools for this job of business analyst? i really find hard for me to learn python.I wish you coud tell me that i dont need it XD
You don’t. Little bit of SQL and tableau I understand but knowing python I think what you’re describing is more of a data analyst. This is why the job title don’t mean shit cause you will need to read the job description.
Hi, i recently completed my Masters in Business Analytics. I am applying for jobs in my field but all i am getting is rejections. I don't have experience as i have recently graduated. I feel clueless and demotivated. I don't really know
What to do.
I kept track of all the companies and the positions I applied for in an excel until I landed my paid internship position lol
I think the important thing is you have to take inventory of what kind of skill sets and experience you have and try to build up. Maybe you won't get responses for your dream jobs right away, but you might need to start with volunteering and then internships in the same industry to get your foot in the door. I know a lot of people who started off their careers with smaller companies to build their resume. Here is a video that talks about some of the steps you should consider when applying for your next job! Hope this helps :)

2-business analyst have scopes in abroad (uk, us, etc)
2-what are the steps after bba to become business analyst?
Mam please repli for these doubts 😪
1. Yes you can become BA after studying finance - I'd suggest studying business administration would be beneficial.
2. Are you asking if BAs can work abroad? Can you please clarify?
3. You will need to apply for BA positions or find transitional roles that can help you land jobs as BA.

Was it you inbuilt confidence or was it a case of you being already experienced in the field so you knew your domain?
just curiousity... what company are you working for as a BA? :)
Nie Richie Im working at a telecommunications company called TELUS as BA
@@RichMillennialMindset Hi, thanks for your reply!!! Can I ask that do you need any coding skills to fit in the BA position?
Nie Richie No it’s not absolutely necessary but Ive seen a couple of job postings for tech giants such as Amazon where it seems like coding skills are necessary. So it depends on the company and skill sets they’re looking for.
@@RichMillennialMindset thanks so much for all the info:)
Nie Richie Im happy to help :)
You’re saying great and important things for people but just because you happened to be a business analyst when going through these does not justify the title. These are general things to understand, learn and overcome for any office job or almost any job where social interaction is needed. So I’d say title is misleading.
