Was a barista for a time and had that same experience of seeing people wait outside the cafe before it opened (at like 5:30am), sometimes even when it was raining. It's a mostly chill time, even if you're in the midst of rush it can go relatively smoothly if you have enough stock/staff to accommodate. The hard part is dealing with entitled customers, bonus that if you get a bunch of them back to back during rush. I strongly believe that I learned more about life in 6 months of managing a cafe than I did in 4 years of college. Everybody should experience working this type of job at some point in their lives. You have my respect fellow barista!

thanks for sharing your experience! i’m a current college student and just got hired at starbucks yesterday :) and i chose to go for starbucks because i wanted to gain skills and experiences and grow as a person. not to mention, i also have social anxiety and previously was quite bad at social interaction, so i want this job to push me to practice and help with my anxiety. it will be interesting dealing with entitled customers and i just feel like it will help me become stronger and more vocal. your comment assures me that i will definitely gain a lot from my new job!!

Just started watching this barista videos and it’s so insightful. Its tough times for all. In Melbourne (Australia) we went from over 700+ cases a day to 0. Granted we endured fairly harsh lockdowns for 6 months, we now sit fairly comfortable and appear to be on top of it now. Masks were required and are now loosened with the need for masks only when shopping in tight confines. Wishing you the best of luck, stay strong. It may feel like forever, but things will slowly become normal over time.

You make it look easy. Watching you working helped me appreciate a little of what a barista does each day. I usually just pay the cashier and wait for my coffee, so much goes on behind the scenes. Thank you! 🙏

I now realize working at a coffee counter could be a busy job that involves so many tasks.. Preparing the milk, coffee bean, and the machine, then actually brewing the coffee, then test tasting the coffee to make sure they are good enough , then serving customers, then getting money from customers. But I think the most satisfying moment is when you are able to see your customers put a smile on their faces when they are enjoying the coffee you make. Hard work pays back. That's the essence of being a professional barista. I am glad you can provide delicious coffee for you customers before they head for another long day for their work.

Smooth work layout and structured routine. Certainly very busy cafe. Multitask x3. Puqpress is a great help . Certainly a joy to watch and surprisingly relaxing at the same time.
