Yes, in fact. I even researched the BMW off-road riding school there. We’ll see if I ever get to do it: South Africa is a country that very much appeals to me. At some point I even considered moving there.
Jessica, if you ever come to Cape Town let me know. I will take you on some awesome rides and also give you some brilliant routes to do. This is an open invitation. I have a GSA.
re the clouds being 'squished'. The cumulus clouds are sitting on rising air columns (thermals), and so have flat bottoms. The very interesting part (to me) -- is that as you look further into the distance and see the successive similar clouds all with their flat bottoms -- all sitting at the same height above the ground -- you are seeing the curvature of the earth.
That’s a long way from home- superb video. In 1972 as a novice P player I rode from Perth(Australia) to Melbourne. No one told me about all the road-kill (rotting kangaroos etc with my half-face helmet and heat) or dirt(thick bull dust),corrugating, truck dust storms ( you just stopped & waited for it to clear) or the raised cattle grids(launching platforms. Hard yaka but you never forget.
I’m from SA and was born near Calvinia. You must come to that region between August and September and experience the Namaqualand flowers. Beautiful part of our country. Those graves you saw are either the different generations of people that lived on the farms or has their origins in the Anglo Boere War. When’s episode 3 coming😀? Travel safely!
Best thing i have watched all year, what a way to end the year my friend! Seems some things are universal in the ADV world. Me and my friends are also great planners, not so great at sticking to said plan but we plan like the devil. lol Enjoy the rest of your trip. What you are doing is my dream adv ride
Loving the adventure. I like that you admit you’re out of your comfort zone. I like that you named the bike Dave. Stay safe and can’t wait for the next video
Love the honesty, wit and humor. Enjoyed the shout out to us Americans kilometer to mile conversion. Yes I have to do the math to get an idea of the true distance. Keep it up.
What an adventure ride. I love open areas and vastness. Great video. I like videos when there is not too much music, just talk and motor sounds...wind too :) keep on going!
Awesome to see you back in South Africa especially Cape Town. I am hoping you are coming back to Cape Town and if so can you have a meet and greet. It would be awesome to meet you personally. You guys are riding some of the best dirt roads in South Africa and will follow your journey closely. Itchy Boots was also here recently. Ride safe and hope to meet you here in Cape Town if you coming back this way.
Brilliant, reminds me of several tours the wife and I planned in Oz. Snow in summer, thunderstorms tracking us from Cairns to Sydney, interminable road works in the rain( in Oz, all roads are constructed in a base of clay). Lovely, just remember the memories you'll have when you are dry and home. BTW, having watched several "professionals" delivering videos about how to improve your ADV skills, I noticed that no one, not even Dave, was standing up. Stupid idea really. That's why bikes have seats!
This is great ! And exactly something I want to see, I realize it’s challenging to say the least going through that damp desert, but hey I hope you will be more positive about the adventures on your way ! This definitely seems to be a promising and interesting trip so fingers crossed for you, be safe and will be waiting for new episodes ! Shap shap ! 🙂
Karoo! I bought two (yes, I'm a hard learner) of those Metzeler on my T7. What a scary tyres those are. Bad on any terrain, literally. 35km the wrong way! I see you're enjoying your trip. 🤣 That's an adventure mate, enjoy it. Be safe out there.
I live in the N.Cape and when I travel these long roads I travel between 160-190kph depending on the heat. Too fast and the bike gets too hot in the summer. The roads vanish quickly then !
Drove it about 6 months ago. The gravel was excellent back then. I believe I could do 130km/h on the r355, recently graded. Glorious karoo! You must enjoy ne.
Gorgeous scenery! You should have contacted the Portuguese before you left; we're very good at planning. Executing those plans? Eh... not so much. Ride safe and thanks for the video.
Dave the bike seems much greater at getting things done, and done correctly. You should find the videos for "super Dave Osborn" from the late 1970's and early 1980's on Satuday night live in the US. I think he is the same Dave as you have in your garage.
😱😱😱😱😱 Couldn't u find heavier and thirstier bikes to bring/rent ? - just a bit ....🤣, But nice trip and great commenting / narrating👍👍👍.... And like I often say, in these cases : "You do it, so we don't have to" 😆😆👍👍
I hope you are enjoying your trip Dave. Just at the part where you are talking about the clouds. So, as you are now in the Southern Hemisphere, the clouds are upside down (hence why they look different). Just ask the other Dave when you speak to him next. 😂
haha the same happened to me in the Tankwa, solo ride on my GSA, I had to ride it like a ment it. btw your Romania accent at times could pass as a SA accent
I live in the Little Karoo and know how sensitive the veld is, so when told not to go off road... listen and ahere to the rules man. The spikes are there for exactly that reason George. As "globetrotters" you should know better. That being said, enjoy my country and safe travels, I will be following your progress.
Sent the picture of your helmet cam setup to a famous photography store with a request for them to provide me with the same brackets etc.....that failed completely. Please can you share the details of the brackets used to get your GoPro mounted on the side of your helmet but positioned in the front? Much appreciate the assistance! Thanks.
@@LongWayHome lol, yeah I can make it from the Netherlands. Well, not by bike but with a space shuttle or something like that. But really. Check my young but fast growing channel. Humor is the basis, and ofcourse adventures and other bike stuff etc :)
I see you have an iPhone, be prepared for the image stabiliser on your camera to pack up! Apple have admitted that vibrations from powerful motorcycles will damage it but you maybe don't use your phone for photos? 👍🏼
Ha, ha, those tires didn't help you a lot in the mud. A peace of useless information. There is a piece of road between Kuruman and Vryburg that is straight for 56km, the longest straight tar road I have ever measured in South Africa. After Vryburg, you will enter the rainy season for the rest of your trip up to Western Cape. Watch out for thunder storms, they appear quickly and the lightning can be bad.
Have you ever had the desire to ride through South Africa?
Yes, in fact. I even researched the BMW off-road riding school there.
We’ll see if I ever get to do it: South Africa is a country that very much appeals to me.
At some point I even considered moving there.
Yes.... but I've got a lot of Australia to see first. May as well start at home eh ? Great film ! Thanks :)
You should have a 1970 Norton Commando with trials tyres for the mud. Oh and better rain than snow and a 70km wrong turning isn't much in the Karoo.
Jessica, if you ever come to Cape Town let me know. I will take you on some awesome rides and also give you some brilliant routes to do. This is an open invitation. I have a GSA.
@@glenwambach1497 Thank you so much! 🥳 I’ll keep it in mind!
The name of that bar is hilarious: “onverklaarbar” 😂😂😂
In that warm weather you will need to change the channel name to Itchy Balls. !!
When shit goes sideways, that's where the memories are made and the character is built.
You are a delightful human being to listen to, I appreciate your humor and zest for life.
Appreciate it!!

Have a similar problem with my speedo… have to get it back to BMW at some point. Rubber side down, shiny side up guys. Enjoy our beautiful roads.
I love seeing the tough terrain. The bigger the challenge the better.
I enjoyed the ride-along, my friend. I love your sense of humor. What an adventure!
Thanks!
Slow but steady wins the race. What a beautiful blue sky "where the clouds are hung for the poet's eye". Great down to earth commentary.
Riding a heavy GS is got to be exhausting. At least you didn't get kidnapped or robbed. Fun channel.

In California, the deserts turns into oceans of poppies after a warm drenching rain. You got there a couple days too early!

Your dry sense of humor is at peak performance on this traveling video. 👍🏼 😎 🇺🇸 🌎
Normally absolutely despise the “sound track” for youtube bike videos. You’ve done supremely well. Actually, never mind, it was probably Dave.
You and your fellow riders awesomeness is duly noted.
Thanks , good to see it's not just my mirrors that do that !!
Loving the adventure. I like that you admit you’re out of your comfort zone. I like that you named the bike Dave. Stay safe and can’t wait for the next video
Welcome to South Africa!
The drone video really shows how vast the riding area is. Good job !
Great adventure so far! Love the planning!
It's South Africa. Plan to take money and a medical kit.
The more money the easier it is.
Riding around Africa while Dave's at home. And you name your bikes after him! Ruthless.
Welcome back to SA.I hope you have a wonderful and safe trip.Thanks.(JHB)

Nice one, gonna be a good series, cheers and stay safe!
My bikes been layed up so long for winter the sound of your GS reminded me I still have a bike
WELL DONE, not bad for a Romanian in Africa for the first time !
I love the pic I just feel sorry for the real Dave being left behind
Amazing scenery!

Very nice places. Great video. Congrats Călin.
Welcome to SA - the rains have been crazy this season - I hope you made it to gauteng on time 👍
Can’t be too bad - no dust😊
Great description of how the distances and scale are so different from Europe! Two towns in 400k's!

I am not leaving this room until it's sunny! :D:D
You mean Tankwa not Tankwe? Dave would have corrected you I am sure...
Cloud talk ....I like them too
Good times
Why the delay? Your next video is long overdue. Hope you & your friends are well -- please post an update when you. Thanks!
Looks like Arizona or New Mexico.
As others have said, it’s just like Oz ... without the kangaroos and emus trying to kill you 😁
But full of Ned Kelly's everywhere.

See you at Ganaga lodge tomorrow??
In PTA now.
Hey grumpy, you are out of your comfort zone…Good. 😂🤣😅
haha the same happened to me in the Tankwa, solo ride on my GSA, I had to ride it like a ment it. btw your Romania accent at times could pass as a SA accent
I don’t think it doesn’t happen. It’s easier than Dave getting his pilot license🤣🤣🤣
It rained hard on us riding through Death Valley last year. It’s sucked.
So... your assessment of the GS now???
Some one trying to imitate a more famous series with a similar name!!

Interesting to see there is not gps or the bmw connected app on the bike. Is google maps works OK in there? Just curious!
Works perfectly. Maps.me for when there is no signal.
My 33 year old klr speedo has never broken as badly as the brand new bmw.
Who knew?
Are you relaxing on a beach somewhere nice and sunny? 🤔
Wait. If you are in South Africa. Who is feeding and taking care of Dave?

Jawa 350 tramp and Norton Commando work nicely and are less work.
At slower speeds though

'DAVE' is a BAD name for a bike, unless *your preference is to ride Guys.* Never mind, who am I to judge.
Your accent sounds like an afrikaans guy, speaking English.
Man, you have to much luggage and a bike that is unnecessarily heavy.
Are you originally from Suid Afrika?? You seem to have an Afrikaans accent… Not a Romanian accent.
Bruh
Maybe you should drop the piece of **** and get an enduro.
