- My favorite economy spinning reel by far is the Shimano IX 1000R and IX 4000R. These reels rock with quick casting bail and rear drag. This video was NOT sponsored by anybody, just my own personal opinion after using these reels for years.

I've owned a IX 4000R paired with an ugly stick for five years now, It's faced against lots of flounder, specks, and reds. My most memorable catch was a 42" inch Stingray with it. It's hands down one of the best reels I've owned.
When I first started fishing, I caught a small Leopard shark on a crab snare with the 4000R...an oddball first catch experience for sure.

It's my fav reel due to it being a 1 handed cast and bearing smooth for a great price. They make 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 models. I use the 2000 as an all around size. Going to buy the wife one soon.
I got one of these combos for Christmas as a child. Lived between and Dry Creek and a Bear River. 😂 swear. I fished all the time. Finally was stolen off the front porch. Just ordered a new one. 20$ combo Walmart. Hope it’s good as I remember.
I've used the same ix2000 for close to 20 years. Nothing but positive things to say about it
I own 4, 2 4000s and 2 1000s. Also from scheels. You cant beat the 12.99 price. Great, durable, reels.
I have 2 ix 2000's ( Shimano does make an ix 2000) and 1 ix 4000. These are the only ones I use.
By far...my favorite spinning reel at ANY price.

Have a couple of these 'Quickfires' from the 1980's. A AX100 and a AX200Q. They both still work great but love maint. Keep that bail/trigger parts lubricated and those drags clean and dry. Did I say oil that trigger?

Hi, can Shimano ix 4000R handle 15-20kg carp? Secondly, does this reel face wobbling issue after fighting big fish?
Caught many of carp on it and never had an issue at all.

What is the Max drag of ix4000R reel?

The quick cast lever means the anti reverse only works in one spot so you lose 350 degrees of rotation when setting the hook. major flaw imo
Doesn't your hand on the reel handle do the same thing as an anti reverse?
Why not just replace the wire if it breaks rather than tossing the reel?
It is a formed piece of wire so not sure if the replacements are even available.
How do you take the spool off. Mine seems so tight I can't unscrew it to get it off.
Tighten the drag and rotate the spool anti clock wise...it should open

The 1000 is an ultralight size, for 2-6 lb test.
How do you stop the drag?
You adjust the drag with the knob on the bottom of the reel.

These reels have a very slow gear ratio. Other than that, really good.
That helps with lure fishing.
good for saltwater fishing?
It’s what I used shore fishing last time I was out in Hawaii. Just give it a rinse in fresh water when you get home.
What rod do you like to use with this reel?
The smaller is good to about 6lb test, so a light action panfish or trout rod is ideal. If using a meadium to medium heavy action rod with 8lb or up then the larger reel is a good choice.
I put mine on a Durango spinning rod
Do you recommend it for catfish or bass?
The 4000 is a great size for bass and catfish. I’d spool it up with 10 lb and you’d be good to go.
