  • How to spool a spinning reel avoiding line twist? Spooling the line on a reel without twisting may seem like an easy task, but not everyone knows how to spool fishing line on the reel correctly and to avoid twisted line in fishing later. In fishing, you may not even understand why your line is twisted and loops are formed, to avoid line twist on spinning reel you need to use correct way to spool the reel.
    First, I will tell you and show you how to tie fishing line to the spool (fishing reel). I will show you how to make self-tightening knot. For attaching fishing line to the spool I will use Arbour knot.
    I hope this video will be useful for both beginners and experienced fishermen, helping to avoid unpleasant situations during fishing due to a twisted fishing line. This will help to avoid line twist on spinning reel.
    By watching this video you will learn:
    • How to correctly tie the line to the fishing reel (tying the line on the reel)
    • What knots to use when tying the line to the reel spool (braided line, fluorocarbon, mono line)
    • How to spool the line on the reel so that it is tightly and evenly wound and does not form knots.
    • How to prevent line twist, how to spool braided line on reel, how to spool baitcasting reel

    Pro tip.
    Remove spool and place in hot water until cooled.
    It puts new memory in the line.

    Reel spooling is the most misunderstood aspect of angling. And this video proves it. 😢

      I maintain a base layer of line (backing) on the reel spool, then use a uni knot to attach the new line to the backing. This technique conserves new line, since you only use the top 20% of the line on your reel. One trick: Make sure the splice knot (uni knot) is positioned at either the top or bottom edge of spool. Then hand wrap the new line several wraps over the knot to prevent the knot from interfering with casting performance. If you fish for species that might spool you, this technique may not apply. But for most species that I use a spinning reel for, that is not an issue.

    Another point is that monofilament has memory. That's an issue in both winding and casting. Fireline doesn't have much memory so winding and casting isn't nearly as dependent on winding procedure. It's also more sensitive to fish activity. Fireline costs more but it's worth it. JMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc.

    Tie a piece of fishing line around a tree with a swivel put line on your reel then your hook attach your hook to the swivel walk your line out once spooled out start reeling it will untwist

    The best way to spool yr fishing reel is put the spool of string in a plastic 5 gal bucket, it works great.

    Never followed this as first time you cast the line goes out fine but when you reel in it will twist.

    I took a whole college course on this even had my tuition payed by Biden. I have put line on reels forever done 999,999s different ways and the only problem was usually operator error. But you can spool a reel and with nothing on the end of the line let it out the back of a boat while idling and reel it back in. 🎣

  • @poepflater
    @poepflater หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I don;t think it matters much, the first time you do a decent cast you will wind in the line and it will unwind any twist it had as the lure end is basically free to spin unless you throw it into some current

    • @FishingLT
      @FishingLT  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you cast it with the lure it will not untwist. if you simply release the line while sailing with the boat and then wind the line - then yes

    • @FishingLT
      @FishingLT  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      but even then it won't get rid of all the twist at one procedure, I think, because the line is long, it doesn't turn all that quickly

    • @poepflater
      @poepflater หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the piece of line you cast and retrieve will unkink in the first few casts and any twist on the rest of the spool should have virtually no effect on your casting and retrieving... or as good as to will get.... For instance casting without a swivel, the line may spin on retrival so yo wind in a new kink... I fish with plain old mono and it is not even a problem on that... (I have about 15 reels i think) @@FishingLT

      1) no line twist at all would necessitate equal spool dimensions
      2) if your line is truly on the spool without ANY twist, then the line will twist when you cast.

    Hogwash. If this is such an effective method, why do shops invest in expensive, in-line spooling machines? Why don't they just lay the spool flat on the floor (as described in this video) and load reels from there?

  • @johnwalker6420

    So complicated... A simple way is to get a folded blanket . Put blanket on bed Put spool on one end of blanket and run the line through ... Plenty of tension and start winding.

    I don’t care how you lay your spool, or how you hold your mouth, or how long it has been since you cleaned your toenails, you cannot transfer line from a 3” spool onto a 1-1/2” spool without introducing twist.

    • @FishingLT
      @FishingLT  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I highlighted about spool differences, but this is still the best way to do it

      The “best” way I’ve found is to give the reel 5-10 turns, pick up the spool and rotate it CW or CCW a few time until the line lays straight, repeat until reel is full. The line will have NO twist, T least to begin with. Throat is just inherent to spinning reels.

    If you don't want line twist and you have a boat. Just spool the line on however you want, get on the water cut any lure off pull out about 10 ft or so, put it in the water and open the spool and drive down the lake slow to empty, then spool back on using light finger pressure. If no boat, then spool on however till full, then walk the line out till empty and make sure it is free of any thing to hold it and respool with light finger pressure. No line twist. Just remember you will get line twist anytime you slip your drag. You're also going to get line twist from just normal usage and different lures will make line twist as well. With braid, you don't have to worry as much as you do with fluorocarbon or mono, less memory...
