  • In this video we go over why the second generation of Mitsubishi Monteros is one of the most desirable cars to own in the Montero community as I review my grandfathers Montero which has had virtually no maintenance done to it for the last 20 years. Would love to see this Montero cleaned, fixed and detailed. These are great machines with a rich heritage. I own a 1998 with the winter package and my wife owns a 02 Limited.

    • @itsaboutfam
      @itsaboutfam ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sakibahmed8485 It was available for only 98-99 model years here in the North American market. Monteros with this package has heated leather seats, heated side mirrors, headlight washers, optional adjustable shocks, and factory rear lockers.

      @@itsaboutfam I’m from the U.K, this car is abit of a cult icon in its own right over here, esp in my city it became very famous because of its ruggedness it’s just a shame they stopped making them

      @@sakibahmed8485 I stumbled upon a 1998 Winter Package this past summer, and have learned a lot from @itsaboutfam videos. Monteros are oddly under the radar here, not many know about them and Range Rovers and Land Cruises are much more popular (read: also much more expensive). I now consider myself very lucky for the purchase I made before I knew anything about them. I still feel cramped in the driving position compared to the Chevy Avalanche I drove prior, but the offroad prowess it promises makes up for that and is what I was looking for. It's good to hear there's much more appreciation for these little trucks in other parts of the world! Thanks for sharing.

    Hello. I have a 1998 3.0 24 valve. It’s got 261756 miles and still going strong. She’s had her timing belt changed 4 times with the water pump and timing belt kit. Oil change done at 6 months. Brakes pads and rotors as needed. I also used her as a rescue vehicle since I did EMS volunteer work. All in all, she’s got what it takes and them some. 🚑🇵🇷

    Monteros (Mitsubishis in general) get a bad wrap for being unreliable BUT its mainly because of owners neglect. I worked for Toyota for years and they suffer the same fate if neglected. Even though they get neglected...they will last longer than other vehicles of similar history, age, and use. Once you get the maintenance issues sorted out...they are extremely fun and reliable.

    Love the Montero! might need a bit of work, but if it makes memories then go for it! a new Rig like that is 50K + to buy, you can buy second hand, but if you like it, I'd say go for it, I am in your shoes, I got a 1996 Tahoe 2dr I want to fix up!

    "hopefully the problem will..uhh...fix itself" - yah no. You're definitely going to have to fix it. But the car is worth it. These are great vehicles. Save it from the very un noble death it is currently headed toward. I love the end of the 1st gen bc they had the auto air lockers along with the non-interference engine. they will ALWAYS .....ALWAYS cost a small fortune to fix up. But when I say small fortune I mean "around 4k" on average to bring it from the verge of death to a comfortable state - but you will be well rewarded for your efforts. Hope this guy stuck with it and decided to invest in his - but if he didn't It's easy to understand why. But with the cost of ownership of a land cruiser or 4runner getting so high, I think these are amazing alternatives that do all the same stuff at a fraction of the cost - plus i'm just now starting to see these going up in value. I've seen several 1st gens listed for 8-10k and the 2nd gens still sitting firm at 10k (rebuilt - cosmetic or mechanical restore - haven't seen both yet but I'm sure when people do start doing that it'll fetch at least 12k)
