The Hovet arena will be demolished and The Globe aka Avicii Arena is under renovation and will be their new home arena. Hovet is more popular for hockey because the ice is better (colder in the arena) and the ceiling is lower, which creates a better atmosphere. But when the Globe is renovated, the ceiling inside will be able to be lowered. And I hope they will fix the ice problems that been there.
We went to see Djurgardens play last Friday (4th October). It was only half full but the ultras made it sound and feel like it was a full house. We absolutely loved it!
@@hollowmade The only good fans/ultras in Finland that are original are from Vasa. There are some up and coming from tampere that are decent with younger fans but they are hella generic.
Avicci arena used to be called Eriksson globe, after the telecommunications company, or just "Globen" ("The Globe" in english), but after Aviccis suicide, it was renamed in his honor as one of Swedens most well known artists and to raise awareness for mental health
You can actually get regular beer, but it can only be bought and drunk in certain closed off, designated areas around the arena (and in the VIP section).
As for the ice that continues outside the rink... Johanneshov, like all old hockey-arenas in Europe was built with measurements for a standard European rink, which are 60x30 meters (length x width). However, more and more top teams and leagues in Europe has started to play on NHL-size rinks, which are 60,96x25,9 meters. Which is why you could see the ice surface outside the actual rink at Johanneshov.
(Unless there's another reason for it) It's no wonder those first row seats were empty because the view is pretty bad. When I lived in Stockholm several years ago, and would occasionally go to Hovet, the first a couple of rows were among the cheapest seats IIRC. The penalty boxes further hinder your visibility of the ice.
I saw my first international ice hockey games in this arena. 8 years old and die-hard Djurgård-fan. World Cup in ice hockey 1969. Czechoslovakia won against the Soviet Union 2-0 (serious match considering the occupation the year before) and Sweden against Finland (5-0???) a few days later.
I have the opportunities to watch sport matches in Europe and in North America. In North America, the match itself is one of the things that are happening in the arena/stadium. There are loud music, kiss cam, light shows, 50-50 raffle draws etc. In Europe, the match is THE only thing that is happening in the arena/stadium. It feels like everyone is connected inside the building.
Swedish hockey games are fun especially when finals is coming up. It's a pretty big spectacle but LAGOMT enough, for years they used to play random rock music during downtime but it's slowly morphed into "supporter made" music which is kinda cool
The clock is rung and djurgården does an goal how sweet it is to see djurgården make an goal yet again Prob not best translation as I forget the verse but it’s fun verse we have
Hovet is a older arena, they probably might have played in Globen(The Globe that is just next to Hovet, pretty hard to miss in Stockholm) for this game on a regular year but right now its being renovated. But that said, Hovet was built as a outdoors arena in the 50s and got its roof in the 60s. So yeah, older arena for sure.
I was in Toronto 2001 and saw a match between Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche. It was awesome to see both Mats Sundin and Peter Forsberg, but it was quite expensive and shitty seats. Anyway it was a good experience! Forza Djurgården, Alltid Oavsett!💛❤️💙
Yes! We thought it was sold out, because the tickets were unavailable on some of the sites, but in the end, we found tickets!! So, we will be going. We don't have the best seats, but we will be there :)
@@Liigakapteeni I actually remember a few years back i think 2021/22 when Luleå vs Färjestad was in the SHL Finals, some finnish newspaper in Oulu wrote how insane the atmosphere was and that nothing they have experienced in a hockey arena has come close. The fans stood up and sang for the entire game +warmup.
@@kingboss1279 Yes exactly. Swedish fans are next level compared to finnish fans. Probably because of longer traditions with ultras while ultras are pretty new here in Finland. And also Sweden has like twice as many people as Finland.
When Sundin played all games were played in Globen close to Hovet. To bud stronges beer you need to go to the bars. But usually the line is so long by the timme you get a beer its time to go back to the game.

@@Aristolari Incorrect. Zoo in Swedish is "djurpark". "Gård" in the case of Djurgården means "större, öppet markområde i omedelbar anslutning till byggnad och omgivet av andra byggnader eller stängsel", i.e. the are of Djurgården in Stockholm that used to be the royal hunting ground. The closest translation would be something like "Animal estate".
See you tonight! This game was extremely sloppy by djurgården, sadly this is the kind of sloppiness we've seen all season. But today we'll come back even stronger for the big W! About the beer situation, there is a bar which has stronger beer by sections A10-A11. But you are not allowed to take that beer out of the bar.
The Avicii arena next door is named in honor of the late Swedish DJ Avicii who died in 2018, also Avicii arena is undergoing a major renovation and will reopen 2025 and the Hovet arena will be demolished and a office building will be built and a new practice rink for Djurgarden will be built at the same site underneath the office building .

Nice to see you travel to Finland and Sweden for the hockey culture! Some Djurgardens IF and players to the NHL history: 1. 85 players from 1974 till today (2024) have been drafted to a NHL team from Djurgarden in the annual NHL Entry Draft. Kent Nilsson was the first sucsess in 1976. 2. Mats Sundin is regarded as the biggest Djurgardens IF player to play in the NHL. He was drafted 1# by the Quibec Nordiques from Djurgården in the first place, where he played for the youth and junior division and then fast advanced for the professional team while still underaged. Sundin had to play really hard, and was well schooled as DIF at the time was insanely tallented with International level developed players and was in the middle of a league THREE-PEAT championship (1989-1990 & 1991) so part reason why Sundin blossomed so early was that tough schooling he got from his peers, something he has openly expressed great gratitude for his development as a hockey player. Sundin left the team for playing in the NHL with the Nordiques for the 1990-1991 season, a move that was not with-out struggles from DIF, but things worked out eventually and all satisfied. 2. Djurgarden have had in the 90's and up a lot of tallented players that went to have a NHL career, including: - "Magic Man" Kent Nilsson (1977-1987 = Winnipeg Jets, Atlanta/Calgary Flames, Minnesota North Stars & Edmonton Oilers. Won Stanley Cup 1987 & 2 Avco Cups with Jets) - Tommy Albelin (1987-2006 = Quebec Nordiques, New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames & Devils again. Won 2 Stanley Cups in 1995 & 2003 with the Devils.) - Mats Sundin (1990-2009 = Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs & Vancouver Canucks. First Non Canadian born to be selected 1# in the NHL Draft. A great leader.) - Tommy Soderstrom (1992-1997 = Philadelphia Flyers & New York Islanders. Was greatly tallented but retired premature) - Marcus Ragnarsson (1995-2004 = San Jose Sharks & Philadelphia Flyers) - Mariusz Czerkawski (1994-2006 = Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens & Toronto Maple Leafs. 1st Polish NHL All-Star player). - Johan Garpenlov (1990-2000 = Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers & Atlanta Thrashers. Played in the 1996 Finals). - Espen Knutsen (1997-1998 & 2000-2004 = Anaheim Mighty Ducks & Columbus Blue Jackets. First Norwegian born to play in the NHL All-Stars). - Marcus Nilsson (1998-2008 = Florida Panthers & Calgary Flames) - Patric Kjellberg (1992-1993 & 1998-2003 = Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators & Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Played in the 2003 Finals with the Dycks). - Mikael Tellqvist (2001-2009 = Toronto Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes & Buffalo Sabres. Tallented goalie that struggled to be in the NHL but otherwise played great in career) - Nicklas Kronwall (2003-2019 = Detroit Red Wings. Won Stanley Cup 2008 and became known for his "Kronwalled" tackles. Became in 2008 a Triple Club Gold member) - Mattias Tjarnqvist (2003-2008 = Dallas Stars & Phoenix Coyotes). - Daniel Tjarnqvist (2001-2007 & 2008-2009 = Atlanta Thrashers, Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers & Colorado Avalanche). - Robert Nilsson (2005-2010 = New York Islanders & Edmonton Oilers. Son of legend Kent Nilsson and struggled to live up to his fathers legacy in hockey.) - Johnny Oduya (2006-2018 = New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars & Ottawa Senators. Won Stanley Cup 2013 & 2015) - Marcus Krüger (2019-2019 = Chicago Blackhawks & Carolina Hurricanes. Won Stanley Cup 2013 & 2015 with Blackhawks 3. Other more recent high-drafted alumni Djurgarden that are still in the NHL: - Gabriel Landeskog (Colorado Abalanche) - Mika Zibanejad (NY Rangers) - Alexander Holtz (NJ Devils) - Jonathan Lekkerimäki (Vancouver Canucks) - Noah Östlund (Buffalo Sabres) - Liam Öhgren (Minnesota Wild)

Nice that the purce was still there. We went to see eurohockey tour game Finland-Canada in Globen around 2009-2011,dont remember the year exatly. We boozed all night at ferry from helsinki, had massive hangover in stockholm at morning. Buses were waiting for us at port to take us to globen. My bus was full of fans drunk as hell, they immediatly noticed that i was struggling with severe hangover and they all wanted to help ofcource. I had beer, mintliquer, vodka, vine and more vodka onthe way. Needless to say i started to feel ill (20 minute journey) and vomitted in a plastic bag that was professionally handed over just in time! And Voila, bus doors open,i step out and see 30 police officers in front of me saying All BAGS HERE RIGHT NOW,NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! I ofcource gave my bag right of way, the cop openened the bag full of puke and i said "just keep it,i got plenty". No problems with the cop,she just put it aside and said "NEXT". Finland won the game something like 6-1.
@JetLagWarriors You know that you ARE allowed to bring beer etc into the arena. =) Also, different arenas has different rules about beer and other alcoholic beverages. Some arenas you CAN buy stronger beer like 5.4% etc.. It's all about what license they have. 😃😃😃

I definitely recommend the Djurgården vs. AIK match if you can somehow get tickets, I've been to a couple of those derbys and the atmosphere and tifos are INSANE
No, the beer can be stronger, you only have to have a special permit to sell stronger beer (it's a bit strange that a hockey arena doesn't have such a permit), in stores, only the government-owned system company is allowed to sell stronger beer.
SEK 100 is about 8,70 euros, and didn't you say that you paid 9 euros for a bear in Helsinki? And there you got real bear, not 'folköl' of 3,5 %. So, cheaper?
One of the things I love with hockey in Sweden is the fan culture. I used to stand in the home section (no seats there would just get in the way) and sing, dance and cheer for my team HV71. It was a while ago now though but still enjoy going to the games when I have a chance and we barely managed to stay in the to league after an abysmal season... again. But hey, once you have chosen a team it is your team for life, what ever division it is in. That's my mentality.
Mats Sundin was amazing. We hate him in Finland. 1992 and 1998 WC finals and 2006 Winter Olympics final all still hurt. Edit: I think Sweden has the same gambling laws as Finland, where the only company that is allowed to market and provide gambling service is a state-owned company (Svenska Spel). That in reality is circumvented with companies that are in EU and not technically marketing gambling towards Swedes (or Finns), but they do weirdly (😉) have their website in Swedish. The thought is that if gambling needs to be a thing, then at least the profits would go to the state. But that also creates incentives for the state-owned company to provide more and more gambling to the public.
Cheers! You could be an aversge Finn or a Swede. You have similar vibes I bet it comes from Canada. I follow basketball but I know there are so many Finnish players in Swedish Elite Serie.
But i would say the passion and the grind is a little stronger in the 2nd league overall. But the rivalries in the top league and the arenas are much louder
Until late last year you could bring a purse or bag. It got changed last year after SÄPO issued an increase in the terror threat level in Sweden. So fotboll, hockey and music festival etc all have banned bags/purses.
You get stronger beer at the state liquour stores. If the venue has the proper permit you get them at the place as well. And yes, it's second division - almost entirely made up of former top division teams. And "Hovet" is the smaller, older, arena in Stockholm.

Its pretty nice but i personally prefer the normal seats since the atmosphere is better and not as "business"-like.
Great to see you enjoyed the game. I’m sure someone has already mentioned it but the 3,5% beer you can bring to the stands. If you want stronger beer there are 4 bars at Hovet (one in each corner) where they serve stronger beer and other drinks. The grocery stores in Sweden aren’t allowed to sell stronger stuff either so you’ll have to go to systembolaget. Hope you enjoy some real beer and the rest of your stay in Sweden💛❤️💙
Awesome Greetings from Helsinki , Finland
The Hovet arena will be demolished and The Globe aka Avicii Arena is under renovation and will be their new home arena. Hovet is more popular for hockey because the ice is better (colder in the arena) and the ceiling is lower, which creates a better atmosphere. But when the Globe is renovated, the ceiling inside will be able to be lowered. And I hope they will fix the ice problems that been there.
As a djurgården fan this is very sad beacuse hovet as always been our home just like Stockholm stadion has been our fotress
We went to see Djurgardens play last Friday (4th October). It was only half full but the ultras made it sound and feel like it was a full house. We absolutely loved it!
Djurgården’s fans are great! You should come down to Ängelholm to experience a semi final. Great atmosphere too!
Wow the crowd is amazing in Sweden! We have a lot to learn in Finland…
We will never be on the same level. Just because we finns are generally more introverted than open.
Really? I always thought Finnish hockey fans were kind of the same as us Swedes. You learn something new everyday.
@@hollowmadeI guess that goes for the international games. But in the national league games you guys are light years ahead.

Go to Modo next season! Where forsberg, the sedins and many more came from, should especially visit them when they play against Timrå IK!
Avicci arena used to be called Eriksson globe, after the telecommunications company, or just "Globen" ("The Globe" in english), but after Aviccis suicide, it was renamed in his honor as one of Swedens most well known artists and to raise awareness for mental health
You should add an "ay caramba"- counter to the next video.
Not a bad idea, actually!
Congratulations DIF, now you gotta brawl with Brynäs tho, theyve been insane all season pretty much, I wish you good luck
You can actually get regular beer, but it can only be bought and drunk in certain closed off, designated areas around the arena (and in the VIP section).
I do not watch hockey normally, but I enjoyed listening to your commentary.
Great fan reaction, I may be supporting another Stockholm team but Im hoping for Djurgården to advance to the SHL
Söderfamily!
Thanks mate from a Djurgårdare in Thailand!❤
Come to göteborg next week! We going from Fin cheers our friend and ofc team also who playing in Frölunda!
Sundin, Forsberg, Näslund and Alfredsson is always discussed as best here in sweden, but ofc it is often a mix of 50 50 saying forsberg or sundin
In the premiere game 2014 between djurgården and växjö they had a noice meter, and the highest volume that was recorded was 130dB
True! I agree with your analysis 100%
In europe the games speak for themselves. Leaves room for fans to express their passion. And it’s ALWAYS a goosebump experience
love what u do! and the commitment you show. love u
This is 2nd division hockey in Sweden.
1st division is SHL.

Great video! hope you liked Djurgården!
Swedish hockey games are fun especially when finals is coming up. It's a pretty big spectacle but LAGOMT enough, for years they used to play random rock music during downtime but it's slowly morphed into "supporter made" music which is kinda cool
The clock is rung and djurgården does an goal how sweet it is to see djurgården make an goal yet again
Prob not best translation as I forget the verse but it’s fun verse we have
Not only in 1995. Djurgården is Sundin’s youth team as well. He pretty much IS Djurgården, just as he will be a forever Leaf.
Reminds me of pre-Towes era Blackhawks. We'd pray we never got power plays, they were such a disaster. Somehow, we managed to win games.
Hope you had a great time in Sweden!
This is professional hockey like AHL in USA and Canada. It's the second league in Sweden (Allsvenskan), the highest league is called SHL.
So yeah, older arena for sure.
some comments on the venue: its the old arena right next to the newer one, however they are playing on the old arena due to renovation in the new one.
I've been to Avicii arena once in 2012, It was called Globen then. I had no idea Hovet was so close to it. Had to be there right? it's older arena?
I was in Toronto 2001 and saw a match between Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche. It was awesome to see both Mats Sundin and Peter Forsberg, but it was quite expensive and shitty seats. Anyway it was a good experience! Forza Djurgården, Alltid Oavsett!💛❤️💙
If you are staying a long time you should watch the Stockholm football derby on the 21st

To be honest as a Tappara fan every team's fans in the Finnish league have a long way to get to their level.
But usually the line is so long by the timme you get a beer its time to go back to the game.
you need to go to the "pub" if you are going to drink strong beer. is roughly on the left side of the curv from your seat

About the beer situation, there is a bar which has stronger beer by sections A10-A11. But you are not allowed to take that beer out of the bar.
you have bars inside the arena that sells stronger beer, not allowed to take them outside the bar though :)

Mats Sundin didn't only play for Djurgårdens IF during the lockout season. It was the club he played in BEFORE joining NHL...
Nice to see you travel to Finland and Sweden for the hockey culture! Some Djurgardens IF and players to the NHL history:
1. 85 players from 1974 till today (2024) have been drafted to a NHL team from Djurgarden in the annual NHL Entry Draft.
2. Djurgarden have had in the 90's and up a lot of tallented players that went to have a NHL career, including:
- "Magic Man" Kent Nilsson (1977-1987 = Winnipeg Jets, Atlanta/Calgary Flames, Minnesota North Stars & Edmonton Oilers. Won Stanley Cup 1987 & 2 Avco Cups with Jets)
- Tommy Albelin (1987-2006 = Quebec Nordiques, New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames & Devils again. Won 2 Stanley Cups in 1995 & 2003 with the Devils.)
- Mats Sundin (1990-2009 = Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs & Vancouver Canucks. First Non Canadian born to be selected 1# in the NHL Draft. A great leader.)
- Tommy Soderstrom (1992-1997 = Philadelphia Flyers & New York Islanders. Was greatly tallented but retired premature)
- Marcus Ragnarsson (1995-2004 = San Jose Sharks & Philadelphia Flyers)
- Mariusz Czerkawski (1994-2006 = Boston Bruins, Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens & Toronto Maple Leafs. 1st Polish NHL All-Star player).
- Johan Garpenlov (1990-2000 = Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers & Atlanta Thrashers. Played in the 1996 Finals).
- Espen Knutsen (1997-1998 & 2000-2004 = Anaheim Mighty Ducks & Columbus Blue Jackets. First Norwegian born to play in the NHL All-Stars).
- Marcus Nilsson (1998-2008 = Florida Panthers & Calgary Flames)
- Patric Kjellberg (1992-1993 & 1998-2003 = Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators & Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Played in the 2003 Finals with the Dycks).
- Mikael Tellqvist (2001-2009 = Toronto Maple Leafs, Phoenix Coyotes & Buffalo Sabres. Tallented goalie that struggled to be in the NHL but otherwise played great in career)
- Nicklas Kronwall (2003-2019 = Detroit Red Wings. Won Stanley Cup 2008 and became known for his "Kronwalled" tackles. Became in 2008 a Triple Club Gold member)
- Mattias Tjarnqvist (2003-2008 = Dallas Stars & Phoenix Coyotes).
- Daniel Tjarnqvist (2001-2007 & 2008-2009 = Atlanta Thrashers, Minnesota Wild, Edmonton Oilers & Colorado Avalanche).
- Robert Nilsson (2005-2010 = New York Islanders & Edmonton Oilers. Son of legend Kent Nilsson and struggled to live up to his fathers legacy in hockey.)
- Johnny Oduya (2006-2018 = New Jersey Devils, Atlanta Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars & Ottawa Senators. Won Stanley Cup 2013 & 2015)
- Marcus Krüger (2019-2019 = Chicago Blackhawks & Carolina Hurricanes. Won Stanley Cup 2013 & 2015 with Blackhawks
3. Other more recent high-drafted alumni Djurgarden that are still in the NHL:
- Gabriel Landeskog (Colorado Abalanche)
- Mika Zibanejad (NY Rangers)
- Alexander Holtz (NJ Devils)
- Jonathan Lekkerimäki (Vancouver Canucks)
- Noah Östlund (Buffalo Sabres)
- Liam Öhgren (Minnesota Wild)
I think Mats Sundin played most games in the Globe Arena, just next to Hovet. Back then, the Globe was brand new.
Hovet is old and they will demolish the stadium soon.

At the time, I didn’t realize it was 3.5%!! With that factor added in, you’re right!!
Mats Sundin and Djurgården did play in "Globen"/Avicii Arena back in days. A bigger arena
Check out Omnipollo's Kyrka. Great but expensive craft beer but it's a very nice venue, located in an old church.
Nice to see. 💛❤💙 D.I.F. Forever and ever.
Sweden is ahead of us here, they already ended the state monopoly

No, the security recommended we go across the street, to the mall, and rent a locker to leave it in, lol
@@JetLagWarriors Okay, pretty weird lol. In Nokia Areena there is a cloakroom.
