Yes to add to what you are saying. Bruce Lee's movements/strikes were for practicality and were applicable in real fights, both sport and street. Jackie's on the other hand would never work in a real fight. But Jackie ain't trying to prove and showcase fighting technique, Jackie is showcasing absolutely truly amazing stunts and acrobatics that we will never see again. A fighter will a skill set like Bruce Lee is once in a lifetime. Bruce is the Greatest Martial Artist Of All Time. Jackie is hands down the greatest Stuntman and Acrobats Artist of all time. Jackie was Bruce's number 1 go to stunt guy that he used in his films. Even Jackie said Bruce was the fastest he had ever seen.
The scary fact: He actual had burns, he was drunk in all his drunken boxing movies, and had many broken bones. I respect his dedication he has done to many of his fans🤩🤧
Jackie actually said himself he'd make the blood rush to his head by holding his upper body upside down, so that he would appear all red in the face and drunk for the scenes he was fighting "drunk". The "alcohol" was actually water with food coloring. As for the other 2 things, I'm curious if he really did sustain real burns and broken bones in this scene because apparently everyone in this scene did sustain a lot of injuries, which caused this one scene alone to take several months to finish.
Ralph Palacio It was probably just water with a mix of food colorings. While drunken fist is the style of imitating a drunk martial artists, it's just an imitation of one. It would probably be very difficult for an actual drunk to fight. Not that drunken boxing is fake no it's just a style where you pretend to be drunk to deceive your opponent. And it's dangerous to drink alcohol, so gasoline is kind of a no brainer in that it is dangerous to swallow. And back to the martial arts, I would believe that even though the style is based off of a drunk martial artist, it would actually be even more difficult to do the style actually drunk than it probably would be to do one of the other styles as a drunk. In drunken fist, there is a lot of core work as you need to keep your balance at most times such as staggering and leaning back then shooting back up again. While I am practicing a bit on drunken boxing, I'm still kind of an amateur and this is just my opinion. So yeah I bet it's just food colored water.
I'm agree with the fact of Hong Kong's art martial movies had the best fight scenes ever. And Jackie Chan is one of the best of all time. But, if you just stay in a Hollywoodian comparison, Matrix had great fight scenes too. This saga was inspired by movies like this and the dedication of Keanu Reeves was absolutly fantastic. He is also a pur martial artist too... even if never he will stand against a Jackie Chan or Donnie Yen.
I like how jackie chan does his final fights different from other martial artists. In most films like ip man, or the various bruce lee flicks, when the hero gets serious, it fast turns into a stomp. He stops taking any but the lightest of hits and crushes his opponent. When jackie chan "gets serious" he just stops losing. Its still a full battle going on, its just now jackie chan has the advantage. And not an overwhelming one really, you can see all the damage he is taking during the fight even after he gets wasted. Honestly, I prefer that style where its an actual fight and not a beating.
Jackie Chan is the living definition of a badass. He actually knows Kung Fu AND does his own stunts. Also, I really miss the martial arts genre of movies. Hopefully with the rise of Chinese cinema in the west, we'll see a resurgence of awesome kung fu movies.
The only thing that comes to mind for me that's similar is John wick. A dedicated stunt team willing to work months of non stop choreography. Long action shots with no insane jump cuts.
I like how Jackie was so hyped up on alcohol that at 6:30, he just straight up turns away from the fight goes to beat up a crate with his bare fists. Like "Yo fuck this crate, I'm so hype right now!"
For my first few years of watching martial arts movies, I Bruce Lee was inferior to Bruce Lee for that very reason. Too simplistic, too one-sided. After I got a better eye for body-mechanics I realized Bruce Lee was a superior fighter and appreciated watching him more. Jackie Chan looks loose and sloppy to me now. But still more fun to watch.
lol dude that's not wine...that's industrial alcohol and you are not supposed to consume that because it will cause serious damage to your internal organs
Heh ... this movie started out being directed by a legendary kung fu movie director. But when he and Jackie Chan disagreed on choreography, Jackie Chan fired him. The director wanted to apply drunken techniques realistically. In real fights they are just one-step reactions. Jackie Chan wanted to make the moves flow endlessly into each other. After he got fired, the director went on to direct his own drunken master movie that was titled Drunken Master III. It sucked, got forgotten quickly, and proved Jackie Chan correct in firing him.
He's got balls though you gotta admit. Most actors wouldn't offer to get burned like that for the big screen like him. He actually takes most of the hits.
5 or 10% more blood (to make it more real) and this would be a masterpiece. As it stands it's still a masterpiece. I can't say anything tbh. This is great.
Je ne lasse jamais de revoir ce duel. La chorégraphie n'as absolument pas pris une ride et reste toujours aussi intense même quand on la connait par coeur.
how come all critics considered Crouching Tiger (released about the same time) an international masterpiece when this flick made that one seem in slow motion?

Director: I don’t know ...
Heh ... this movie started out being directed by a legendary kung fu movie director.
Kedabro Thanks for the info ! 👍🏽
He's got balls though you gotta admit. Most actors wouldn't offer to get burned like that for the big screen like him. He actually takes most of the hits.
A bit like his "a stitch in time" stunt in Project A. That was madness!
5 or 10% more blood (to make it more real) and this would be a masterpiece. As it stands it's still a masterpiece. I can't say anything tbh. This is great.
Tell hwoarang to stop spamming Jesus lol
When he turns around and just walks away 😂 😂
Jackie is a Monk that took the subclasses Drunked Master
the creativity of this man, amazing won't suffice
Man, I want to have legs as fast and agile as Ken Lo. It just seems incredible to me.
That dudes Kicking skills is something to strive for guy! That's just nuts! So much control!
1:18 imagine if that landed.
It would hurt.
Video would’ve been 1:30 minutes long
Other guy: uses the no shadow kick on Jackie Chan.
Jackie Chan: breathes fire on the other guy
One of the best movie scenes of all time. Hands down.
Lord have mercy Ken Lo’s footwork! 🤯
You all know about Ken Lo, but the other guy, Ho Sung Pak, is the original Liu Kang from the first Mortal Kombat game.
Greatest fight scene of all time. And I’ve seen a TON.
🤜🥴 Ja-KinG 🐯 Chan The Best Actor ( Karaté ) Off All Time. ! 😎
I wanted to learn this style of Kung fu, then I realized I was too drunk to remember the moves.
Jackie chan, still the king of action comedy!
Je ne lasse jamais de revoir ce duel. La chorégraphie n'as absolument pas pris une ride et reste toujours aussi intense même quand on la connait par coeur.
Ken Lo has some fancy foot work
What I love about old action movies, the camera isn’t having a epileptic seizure
how come all critics considered Crouching Tiger (released about the same time) an international masterpiece when this flick made that one seem in slow motion?
7:49
the way jackie obliterates that chair just makes me smile
The funny thing, Ken Lo and Jackie are good friends in real life. The part wasn't originally supposed to go to him, but the original actor was not available so Ken took it at the last minute.
Dunno what’s crazier the fight or Jackie Chan did the hot coals scene more than once.
Jackie Chan always used to do his own stunts , I think we own this guy more than we already can
Guy in the glasses, is Jackie Chan's real life bodyguard. Jackie is my hero, does his own stunts, a good soul inside, love him.
Probably one of the best fight scene ever!!!
Aint gonna lie that leg work’s sick
Is the "standing splits" move at 1:29 done with wires, or were Ken Lo's legs just straight up stolen from the gods of kung fu
Ken it's Hong Kong 7 times kickboxing champ until he meet Jacky , so you think it's fake move?
This is the very reason I started taking Martial Arts lessons
Westus also someone's reason to start taking alcohol (:
Both were SO excellent. 2 warriors with that same kind of twisted humor should end up as drinking buddies. ;)
can we please talk about ken lo’s dexterity , he’s insane
2:40 who was he doing thumbs up at .....tht probably escaped editor's attention
So Ken Lo is apparently Jackie's personal bodyguard. Hell yeah I would feel safe..
He was Jackie Chan bodyguard
Di Lung Move it Ya Fool!
yes and He was a member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team.
