Well, despite being french, l'm not ready to switch from Metallica to Gojira as my favorite band : most of their songs are not fast, they're speed, almost the same one. In concert, it's not dance-able nor mosh-able (I saw them once, Metallica twice). Not melodic enough, not relatable enough and the voice is not as sing-able. I remember Disturbed being the "new" Metallica. Not even close. Gojira is not even close. No band right now is close to being what Metallica was in the 80's when they exploded. Times are different now. No band right now is close to being Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Poison, Motley Crue etc.
Not to mention Metallica came out when thrash speed or whatever you want to call it metal was starting out. That's another reason they are special. Just listened to a few clips of Gojira to get an idea and they don't sound like anything new.
@@crodriguez2360 I agree with you on the Metallica part. But I believe Gojira is a very unique band. Calling them "nothing new" is just not true. They have a lot of unique aspects. Metallica on the other hand was nothing new even at their peak, they basically took influence (to the point some people call it plagiarism) from a ton of less known thrash bands and made their success out of that. @@TonyMetal Let me rephrase the nothing new part. Yes Metallica wasn't the only thrash band around at the time but that kinda of music was newer. Gojira is badass shit! First time I saw them, they killed me (still named Godzilla at the time). Soundwise, show-wise, everything was already so tight. The only other bands that makes that effect live for me is Meshuggah.
I'm happy asf that Gojira is becoming well recognized and more popular. They are starting to headline more festivals than their previous years, and I will tell you that they rock ass live. I saw them in my hometown of FL, and they really kicked ass and proved themselves.
Actually, the gallop 2.0 part comes from Morbid Angel, listen to the song Summoning Redemption, man. This kind of stuff is pretty common in death metal, Gojira just brought it to the mainstream. I am super surprised that people do not mention MA more often when talking about Gojira.
Its great to see Gojira become more popular amongst the metal community. They've set a new bar that will be incredibly hard for most bands, new and old, to top.
Gojira's main influence may be Metallica from a contextual point of view but sound wise its Morbid Angel especially their first 3 releases and those THICC riffs
Agree... for me personally Gojira is the best metal band at this moment. They’re just getting better and better!! And they have the best drummer a band can ask for!
Every generation thinks their music is unique and will never be replicated. And they're right to a certain extent, newer bands are always inspired by older ones, but they aren't going to be exactly the same. But that doesn't make one better than the other. I've listened to Gojira and Metallica and I vastly prefer Gojira, but that's not necessarily because Gojira's better, it's because that's just what resonated with me more.
This is so true that overall everyone have heard about Metallica. People may not have heard their song but they atleast know the name and know the band named Metallica exist. here so many school kids love Metallica in my country also.
I think that there can't be another Metallica anymore. Nothing against Gojira, they are an amazing band. The music industry isn't the same it was in the 80-90s. For Gojira to be the next Metallica it would have to have similar kind of effect on the music scene and to draw numbers similar to Metallica. For Gojira to do this is nearly impossible. Metal was really big and fast growing in the 80-90s and even that popularity cannot match the popularity, even slightly, of todays rap or pop. It's sad... but true...
I remember I used to not really like this band because I was annoyed with how everyone was so obsessed with them but after all these years I've finally started enjoying them and think they do make great songs and are now one of the many bands that inspire the music I want to write in the future.
I'm so excited for this Gojira phase. I got into them a few months ago as thrash and classic metal kind of phased out of my preferred genre - and my favorite TH-camr is not only here for the ride, but leading it. Oh man I'm hype.
Gojira might never need a guitar solo, but I just wish Per Nilsson from Meshuggah lays down his amazing fusion solos on one of their future records. I really hope for this collaboration.
i really like how you described how its impossible for there to be a "new metallica." i wasn't convinced at the beginning because the paths of both bands dont exactly line up, but after realizing the metal landscapes are extremely different 30+ years apart, i agree that gojira seems to be a close modern equivalent.
I agree, Gojira is probably the only band that sparked my plugs in 2005 like Metallica did in 1987. I am about the same age as Gojira members and I can hear that we're infulenced by same bands and run similar mindset. \m/
Andriy you're a legend but Lars is not a bad drummer. Everyone knows he's not the most technical or precise drummer out there but what he does for the band suits really well and his drumming in the 80's was pretty revolutionary in the thrash genre and many modern day drummers acknowledge this too
@@theabsolute23 Definitely not an album to recommend to a person (probably a Metallica fan) who has never heard them before. Later albums are more accesible for everyone
Let's say Metallica is one of those "once in a generation" bands like Beatles and Zeppelin. Quite frankly, I don't think any metal band would ever be as big as Metallica. Gojira is very respected in metal community and currently they are my favorite band, but I don't think they'll ever be as big as Metallica. They are too heavy to be liked by non-metalheads.
@@tizianopertile1040 I'm not asking them to make every song into Hangar 18 or something 😂 just a couple of lead bits here and there like Meshuggah do. I think personally that a sonically higher end aspect could add to their songs sometimes. I get what you mean though about that being their style.
Are you kidding? To be an heir to Metallica, they'd have to have great (or even good) vocals, good guitar solos (do Gojira even have guitar solos? I can't remember any in the songs from them I've heard), and memorable riffs and songs. They're more like a B grade imitation of Chaos A.D.-era Sepultura, but with weaker songs.
@@desubokudawanano Are those songs from the new album? Metal bands should have solos on every song, or at least the majority of them - riffs and rhythms drive a song, but solos are the icing on the cake. That's one of the main reasons why St. Anger wasn't well-received by most Metallica fans - if it had solos, it would've been a more popular record.

Nobody knows about Gojira's influence because it's not "hip" to talk about a love of Morbid Angel, Sepultura, or Mastodon.
great timing, ive been loving Gojira lately
You will never see another band like metallica again in terms of size, influence and cultural phenomena.
Definitely starting to get more into gojira myself... great analysis my friend!
“Industrial Metal: Some beats” 😂😂
That’s not what was written there
@@AndriyVasylenko whoops got the lines mixed up, still cool you responded to me. Great video btw🤗
i knew i wasn't the only one that compared these 2 amazing bands on a very complicated level... thsnks for the great video!
As Metallica has inspired kids back in the day, Gojira has inspired me today.
I was listening to the new Gojira Album. This was in my feed - the Algorithm is working for you brother. Great Vid. :)
0:40 I laughed for awhile when I saw "2081 James" lol
Its great to see Gojira become more popular amongst the metal community. They've set a new bar that will be incredibly hard for most bands, new and old, to top.
Gojira's main influence may be Metallica from a contextual point of view but sound wise its Morbid Angel especially their first 3 releases and those THICC riffs
Allright man! You win. Subscribed.
Your videos are consistently good, IMHO. So let us see more.
Mastodon is the new metallica and will carry the banner after they're gone
They are old
Gojira is my favorite band. I saw them last jully in Lisbon and it was a blast. Love them so much
Agree... for me personally Gojira is the best metal band at this moment. They’re just getting better and better!! And they have the best drummer a band can ask for!
Gojira is my favorite band right now. I listen to them more than any other right now
There will never be another Metallica just as there will never be another Beatles or Sabbath.
I agree whole heartedly
Every generation thinks their music is unique and will never be replicated. And they're right to a certain extent, newer bands are always inspired by older ones, but they aren't going to be exactly the same. But that doesn't make one better than the other. I've listened to Gojira and Metallica and I vastly prefer Gojira, but that's not necessarily because Gojira's better, it's because that's just what resonated with me more.
Great video man! Grew (growing) up on Metallica and just started loving THE DEFINITIVE FRENCH BAND just last year!
"the planet is fine
the people are fucked"
Now I'm thinking about this quote even more than before
Hi ! awsome video, i'm french and i love Gojira and Metallica, i'm so happy that you make this video ! love from france
Don’t forget their brother Mastodon. Similar career trajectory also.
This is so true that overall everyone have heard about Metallica. People may not have heard their song but they atleast know the name and know the band named Metallica exist. here so many school kids love Metallica in my country also.
"Some noises"
Understatement of the century
Soon as u saw that interview I knew you would make a video 📹 well here it fucking is mr vasylenko
Gojira is just the perfect band.
I love gojira,,never heard them until lost in Vegas done a reaction to their song,,the heaviest matter in the universe..they are amazing
It's sad... but true...
I was honestly thinking the same but in A different way but your thoughts are much more on point...
They could make the coolest single together
James :
- « Hey Lars, are you alright playing with Mario Duplantier ? »
- « Where are you Lars ? »
*Lars running while screaming.
@@jojolamenace35 so that's why he ran off stage.
I remember I used to not really like this band because I was annoyed with how everyone was so obsessed with them but after all these years I've finally started enjoying them and think they do make great songs and are now one of the many bands that inspire the music I want to write in the future.
When I saw the title said "Mettalic" and "We've all been waiting for", I thought we actually got to review the fricking band.
@Justin D idk bro it sounds kinda tasty
Gojira got 2 songs with guitar solos in the latest album. One of them having 2 solos. Enjoy!
Of Blood And Salt has a Thordendal solo on it, along with Devin Townsend vocals.
i really like how you described how its impossible for there to be a "new metallica." i wasn't convinced at the beginning because the paths of both bands dont exactly line up, but after realizing the metal landscapes are extremely different 30+ years apart, i agree that gojira seems to be a close modern equivalent.
What's your favorite Gojira album and song?
I cannot get enough of the Love riff. But album... idk
Best gojira album is either Terra Incognita or The Link imo
FMTS
Way of All Flesh is my favourite, but i really just like everything before Magma
The Way Of All Flesh but The Axe will always be my favorite
Great vid! Love Gojira! More of this for sure.
In this kind of moment, I'm proud to be french
Ui
Cheers mon ami francais.
Me to. Even tho I'm a Turk.
Everyone knows he's not the most technical or precise drummer out there but what he does for the band suits really well and his drumming in the 80's was pretty revolutionary in the thrash genre and many modern day drummers acknowledge this too
Ive recently started listening to Gojira, and they kick so much ass.
great video man
Gojira is not as popular only because the majority of people just don’t deserve to listen to them. xD
I honestly agree with you - Gojira is unbelievable and an integral part of the future of Metal.
As someone who’s never heard a gojira song, I need some recommendations (I’m a big Metallica/ Megadeth/ pantera fan)
Oroborus, Toxic Garbage Island, L’Enfaunt Savauge, backbone, heaviest matter of the universe, it’s hard to narrow down songs.
Flying Whales would probably be the best song to start with.
Art of Dying, Silvera, Gift of Guilt, and Vacuity are some good tunes as well.
Just listen to their debut album Terra Incognita, way better and heavier than most of the stuff they released later in their career
@@theabsolute23 Definitely not an album to recommend to a person (probably a Metallica fan) who has never heard them before. Later albums are more accesible for everyone
Andriy vidéo about Gojira. Dream. Perfect.
TELEGANGGGG
I feel like fortitude proves this all even more
Either Gojira or Trivium imo. Both incredible bands. Both heavily influenced by Metallica.
I had to scroll a long way to find Trivium being mentioned. Such an under rated band sometimes.
@@jaymz6473 They are really good band that consistently release good music and I am not even sure if they peaked yet.
Just in time when i get into Gojira! Thanks man!
Any telegang here?
Yep
Hey dude
Im glad to see you talking about a french metal band
From a French frrriend 👋
Day 1 of asking for flesh and the power it holds song analysis
Metal Galop 2.0 :) :) excellent !!! Great analysis, thanks !
100% correct.
Killer video! My two favorite bands of ALL TIME! Metallica has been #1 since I was 10 years old and no one came close...until I discovered Gojira🤘🏻
Gojira's lack of solos make me sad :(
Gojira doesn't need solos.
Gojira lack of solos is what makes Gojira so Gojira
@@tizianopertile1040 I'm not asking them to make every song into Hangar 18 or something 😂 just a couple of lead bits here and there like Meshuggah do. I think personally that a sonically higher end aspect could add to their songs sometimes. I get what you mean though about that being their style.
they can solo pretty well, too. listen to their cover of Escape
They don’t really need them. The riffs and teamwork deserves all the focus. But some experiments with classic solos would be curious
Great video🤘🏽
Are you kidding? To be an heir to Metallica, they'd have to have great (or even good) vocals, good guitar solos (do Gojira even have guitar solos? I can't remember any in the songs from them I've heard), and memorable riffs and songs. They're more like a B grade imitation of Chaos A.D.-era Sepultura, but with weaker songs.
Victim has 2 solos in it and silvera has 1
@@desubokudawanano
Are those songs from the new album? Metal bands should have solos on every song, or at least the majority of them - riffs and rhythms drive a song, but solos are the icing on the cake. That's one of the main reasons why St. Anger wasn't well-received by most Metallica fans - if it had solos, it would've been a more popular record.
Love your break downs and observations!
THANK YOU ANDRIVA
Great video!
(still thinking that Trivium is the successor band)
