I'm defending Metallica worst songs on each album, according to a famous ranking list (link below). Sometimes I'd agree with the picks, and a couple times I was really pissed. Before you say there's no bad Metallica songs, well, even James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich said in interview they hate some of their creations. That's the reason why Metallica doesn't play Escape live. So, let's see how can I justify the worst Metallica tracks, and make you like them.

I get that every list is gonna be inherently subjective but man... putting The Shortest Straw as the fifth worst Metallica song of all time, behind songs like Prince Charming or Attitude is just inexcusable.

Shortest straw is my favorite song AND I was wearing a shortest straw shirt when I was nailed by a car walking back home to Vegas from california in a drunken stupor last year .walked away with a few more lumps on my resume haahhhaha
Hey Prince Charming is pretty cool, but I agree it is no where near as good as The Shortest Straw.

Leper messiah is the most underrated Metallica song.
Yeah, Kirk also admitted in an interview that it is (one of?) his top favourite Metallica songs. Great song! I love the "broken" harmonies in there.
This is potentially their heaviest song ever IMO. Themes combined with the riffs are much more serious for the period. (televangelists were a big deal then). Arguably heavier than anything Slayer or Megadeth ever did!!! Criminal to say it isn’t one of their edgier better tunes

I love Escape. I have never understood why the band hates that song so much. I wish that they would play it live more often.

The Judas Kiss is awesome. The chorus and the thrashy riff behind the vocals is really badass. It’s actually an underrated song in my opinion.
Funnily enough, “Escape” spoke to me more than their other songs did when I first heard it as a young man.

WTF ? The unnamed feeling second worst song on saint anger? Easily the best song on the album, one of their greatest songs period. Exclamation point! So underrated wish to see it live one of these days
The shortest straw is such a great song, as soon as I seen it ranked so low the rest of the list became rather void to me. Everytime I hear it i get pumped up, the main riff, the drumming, the barking vocals, damn it’s good

1000% agreed. After seeing it ranked as the worse song in AJFA (along with DYERS FUCKING EVE) I took this list as banter. Whoever made the list is utterly clueless.

Don't Tread On Me is one of my absolute favorite Metallica songs. It's musically badass, and is politically aligned with my feelings vs government.

Jameses solo from Suicide & Redemption always gave, gives and will give me goosebumps, just like the solo from Nothing else matters( no matter how many times i’ll hear it). And also i forgot to add, dont tread on me is so badass, especially the songs chorus, i remeber hearing it for the first time, i thought i heard all of Metallica and then they turned up this song and it was so badass.

Sorry, that's objectively wrong. Its a killer track and one of my faves on the album. But even if you're not crazy about it surely there are worst songs on St.Anger. Even something off of Reload.

U're right, Andriy! I love "Unnamed feeling", it's so unique, brutal and soft at the same time, like an open wound... Loudwire is too subjective and personal about this or just simply doesn't understand certain songs.
The Unnamed Feeling is my favorite song off of St Anger. I think it could work on Metallica's other albums. There's just too much of a stigma with St Anger. The songs never get any respect.
@@comicsans1689 I agree. I like most St anger from St anger and unnamed felling from this album. The album is an expression of feelings and people who feel similar can relate to that. "He never gets respect"... sometimes you do your best and people won't see the truth, act disrespectful and this can make you angry, although you know that you had the best intentions. This album musicalizes those feelings through music and also the lyrics.
You should make a video about Dead Kennedy Rolls, and Metallica's secret live performances with Bob Rock under the name of "Spun". I have an old news article taking about it in depth. A whole video about the Presidio recordings would be fire.

I never liked “The Thing That Should Not Be”. I understand why fans like it, with it’s dark, slow, and doom feel....but the riffs and the song all together always bores me and it’s often always skipped when listening to Master.

I think Shortest Straw has Kirk's best solo. It's very interesting, sounds great with the rhythm and includes very few of his go-to solo tendencies.
I have to disagree. The shortest straw is good but Fade to Black, One, Wherever I may Roam, Sad but True, The Thing That Should Not Be.
Actually in my opinion it's not even the best in AJFA, because it's Eye of the Beholder

I often think about making my own list on best metallica, megadeth etc. songs, but everytime I do it, I get stuck at the same point: Some songs just feel like they are equally good, like Damage Inc. and Battery. Therefore I always struggle on the actual ranking, rather than finding wich ones belong at the top and wich at the bottom.

St. Anger is one of Metallica's best releases in my opinion. Very raw, genuine, and downright heavy and emotional.
With a better production and adding a few guitar solos, this album would have been a masterpiece. The tin can snare sound was a good idea, but not for every songs on the album, in my opinion. Lars should have use it for only a song or two.

Duude Shortest Straw is a great song, also it was originally written in C# standard tuning that sounded like it came out of Vulgar Display of Power

Man when I was in middle school people hated that song, that was the most hated Metallica song when I was in middle school by far...Everybody switched to Pantera by that point because Trendkill was taking over
I bought 'Master of Puppets' the day it came out, from Woolworths, in the UK... I was a kid, 12 years old. Tommy Vance had said on his 'Friday Night Rock Show', Radio 1, UK, that the album was due for release the following week, and gave us all a teaser of it, with 'Battery'... I was the only kid in my school who knew who Metallica were. It was my whole world! And it was weird, because around 4, 5 years later EVERYBODY knew who Metallica were!
Thus do I have an awesome soft spot for Metallica, & even though my music tastes have expanded hugely, I always come back to James, Lars, Kirk... I would never have played guitar if it was not for Kirk Hammet, & I make my living out of my music. As I say, my feelings are very, very warm towards this band above all others, and you do very very god analysis, so, SUBSCRIBED, from UK
You know, I never think about "worst songs", because I tend to get preoccupied by the fact that when a band is so iconic,
and their discography is so long, that I don't even pay mind as to what "the worst" is. After all, that's a subjective thing.
Like you I also stand by these underdogs, there are so much underestimated Tallica songs I get so pissed off.. Great vid

Death Magnetic is one of their best albums... if you get the unmastered version that has been tweaked. It is unlistenable from the original CD version. Wish they would do a full remaster on that album and give it to a competent sound engineer.

The Judas Kiss is awesome, not only the chorus but it has some really cool strange and proggy riffs throughout the whole song. And the same goes to Suicide & Redemption
